You have to wonder what his teams will look like if he is not going to have first choice on local talent (ND and NW Minn) like he has had since he became head coach. I think Collins will have a shot at some of those kids now. I saw Ross Manson at an NDSU Mens game a couple of weeks ago in his NDSU gear. I have to think after watching this year play out, he has to be thinking where was Collins a year ago. I know when Maggie made her decision there really wasn't much of a decision to be made with Walseth at NDSU. And more goes into it than basketball. She may very well have chosen UND anyway. But as a basketball coach himself, he must look at the two coaches and think his daughter is getting cheated out of being coached into a better basketball player.

Kevin Wallevand is going to be on HotMic with Dom Izzo at 9:35 this morning talking about Hunter Pinke for anyone that would like to listen.

I guess that makes sense. Most of the time I have checked, a one way ticket cost about the same as a round trip, but maybe not. I can’t imagine it saved much money if they actually flew out and bused home. But it must have saved a bit. If I were the players or coaches, I would have rather spent the night in Fort Wayne and flew home Sunday AM.
-
Why would they bus to Fort Wayne? Seems odd they would charter to a closer location an bus from a location a few hours further away.
-
I think you are correct. It is a very small sample, but what I have seen from Collins is very impressive. And I think I heard Jack Michael’s say UND bussed home from Fort Wayne and on the same weekend the NDSU women chartered a flight into Western Illinois. I am not sure the circumstances, but that shows a different level of commitment to women’s basketball between the 2 schools.

I think the only way UND or NDSU land her is if she wants to go to a smaller school on a smaller city. And I would assume if she goes that route, UND would have the upper hand with her sister already on the team.
-
You are going great just trying to figure it out. I know which two are 1&2, but not the order. After that it becomes very complicated.
-
Probably. But they may be ok with the TE from Wisconsin they signed instead of Klein. And perhaps they think the Terhark kid from WF Sheyenne and Satter from Davies are better than Belquist, which is not far fetched idea. They obviously think there are kids they evaluated this year that are worthy of an early offer. I don’t think they are worried about UND stealing in-state kids that NDSU wants. Look at which school has more ND kids contributing for them. I think NDSU is getting any ND kid they think can contribute.

Good analysis except this one. If Omaha wins out, NDSU can't win the league, so I am not sure USD can be lower than a 4.

I am thinking if Brew stays at UND, and at this point he will unless he is fired, and if NDSU is able to keep Collins, I think you may need to get used to it.

UND (12-15, 6-7) vs NDSU (20-7, 11-2) 2/22 7 PM

Is blatant goaltending a judgement call? Maybe you know more than the rest of us. -

Yes, he was the best player on the court LAST NIGHT. That doesn’t mean he is the best basketball player overall that was on that court last night. If you were going to start a team with one player that was on the floor last night, at least 8 of 9 SL coaches would not pick Stewart. -

#1 had the best game of any player on the floor last night, but was not the best player on the court. #12 is a very good player and definitely the best big man on the court last night. #23 can hit open 3’s if you hive him them, but isn’t going to create a shot on his own. -

I am a season tix holder at NDSU, and everyone I see 2 of those refs I tell the kids it’s going to be a bad night in the officiating department. I didn’t recognize the bald headed one, but the other 2 are always horrible. -

Standings wise it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t do anything to hurt NDSU or help UND really in the standings. Didn’t say it didn’t matter at all. -

Example. In the final minutes. Shahid goes by Rebraca for a layup. Rebraca bumps him and no call. Next possession or two, Stewart goes in for a layup, less contact, (Actually really no contact) from Krueser, they call a foul. But this game doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Win or lose tonight for NDSU, basically whoever wins the game Thursday in Fargo between NDSU and SDSU gets the number 1 seed and the loser gets the #2 seed. -

It would just be nice if they called a consistent game. They did not. Shahid and Hunter got knocked down on many drives and didn't get a call but Stewart was getting the calls that were no calls on Shahid and Hunter. But all that really matters is 3 games in Sioux Falls and getting a #1 seed to lock up at least an NIT bid. -

It has been "badder" one way more than the other. -

I don't think UND fans have any reason to complain about the officials tonight. -
Agree. The SL is fairly balanced. Some years you could say you would be very surprised if one of one teams didn’t win it all. This year, any team that makes it has a legitimate chance to win it, 1 through 8. SDSU will probably be the favorite just because of the home crowd.
-
The 1/2 seed will most likely be determined solely on the SDSU/NDSU game in Fargo. Even if UND beats NDSU tonight, a win over the Jacks at least tieds them and with USD most likely the 3 seed, the Bison would have the tiebreak. Although other than assuring the NIT bid, I think the 2 seed may be more advantageous. Denver at the 8 seed has some talent and is dangerous and I would rather be on the same side of the bracket with the Yotes than ORU. ORU may have the most talent in the SL if they can put it together.

I think Brew may possibly be overestimating the loss of Leet a bit. I remember her playing some the last two years, but not sure it is a major loss. My guess is she may have averaged more fouls per game than points or rebounds.
-
I think you are right. I think UND has very good athletes in their WBB team, but not necessarily great BB players. And it really does appear that Brew just tells them to get the ball up the court and get a shot off as fast as possible, then make or miss, press full court no matter the situation. I was for years envious of the state of WBB program of UND over NDSU’s. Right now I am not. Just observing from the outside. But it will never get as bad in GF as the last decade of women’s basketball has been in Fargo.

Didn't I see a signing day party at some local hotel or the Alerus tomorrow night? Maybe I am wrong?
-
I hope so. You have a big party scheduled for tomorrow night. I suppose you can use the program that you used in December.
