  1. The original Big Sioux on Gateway(?). I went to the newer plaza a few years ago when I was passing through GF, and it still had good food at a good price.
  2. I have to agree. I don't think I ever visited the Pepper during daylight ... is it even open then? Usually, we went there after bar hopping. Otherwise it was the Big Sioux for fries and gravy. And there's no way either place would be classified as "fine dining", I don't care how many shots you did ...
  3. It'd be comical if it wasn't so pathetic.
  4. If you really want to get monied naming rights, go beyond Sanford Health and look at First Premier Bank, although I don't believe he's actively involved in its daily operations today. http://www.federalreserve.gov/Boarddocs/Press/enforcement/2003/20030925/default.htm
  5. It's called "branding". Sincerely, Starbucks Coffee
  6. IMHO they're beating a dead horse, and by 2014 that horse will be a pile of festering bones. If these "supporters" thought they had any chance two years from now, why not strike when the "iron is hot" and move for a vote this fall? Oh wait, North Dakota voters aren't bright enough to understand the issue, which explains why so many voted against retaining the name in June ...
  7. I think Sean just called North Dakota voters "stupid".
  8. Agreed. Great place and it often supports UND game viewing parties.
  9. I like it. Considering how often I was bombed on/off campus, I think it's fitting.
  10. Nope. But even considering the "price" we paid, I think it was a very worthwhile move for the school.
  11. You'll have to excuse Sean, He's as thick-headed and obtuse now as he was when he was on campus. And I really doubt the NC$$ would give UND any slack on that angle either.
  12. From the halls of Twamley ... "The Gentle Inoffensive Breeze" ...
  13. So you're just comparing Granny Smith Apples to Macintosh Apples ...
  14. Actually, at least in Germany, you can p1$$ almost anywhere outside as long as you're not facing the public. Go into an alley sometime and they smell worse than the restrooms. He's lucky, In some states he could have been cited for Public Intoxication which is almost as bad as DUI from a penalty standpoint.
  15. I think the underlying issue is always transparency of the use of funds. If fees are collected for certain majors, etc. that's okay, but those same funds should not be shuffled around to pay for plane tickets, parties, new chairs in the dean's office, etc. that have no bearing on the courses taught. This is especially true at public institutions.
  16. I doubt there will be a "vote" per se. More likely, the UND administration will assemble a "representative group" of stakeholders, including faculty, students, alums, etc., and they'll go through various exercises and iterations of names, logos, etc., and agree on something boring and generic. It'll be very corporate and very tedious.
  17. And the academic eggheads wonder why people are upset about the spiraling costs of higher education and the accompanying student loan debt ...
  18. But they'd never use/abuse that power again ... would they?
  19. They'll probably file a claim with their insurer, if they haven't already, for at least part of the sanction. Plus, they have a pretty decent endowment for a larger state school. From a financial perspective, the $60MM represents a year of the football program's revenue. Since football effectively supports other "non-revenue" sports at most big schools, you have wonder how the sanctions, etc. will impact their entire athletic program over the long-term.
  20. Edit 2.0: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/24/sports/ncaafootball/penn-state-penalties-include-60-million-fine-and-bowl-ban.html?hp Not the "death penalty", but at least the NC$$ can claim they "did something".
  21. Very nice article, Pat.
  22. http://www.walmartre...ge=&MaxAcreage= WalMart is one of the largest real estate companies in the world and they have left a lot of "newer" stores empty as their demographics have shifted.
  23. WalMart has a track record of building larger stores, and then closing down smaller, older ones in the same locale leaving a real eye sore since they usually don't sell/lease the space to competitors. The city may want to nail that down before they get too excited about *another* WalMart.
  24. I love the way Nocera goes after the NC$$ ... http://www.nytimes.c...n-state.html?hp Edit: On the other hand ... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-07-17/penn-state-may-face-harshest-penalty-ncaa-president-tells-pbs.html
  25. I wouldn't bet on it. Penn State, whatever its past failures, brings in a lot of money to the NC$$. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/15/sports/ncaafootball/penn-state-scandal-poses-tough-choices-for-ncaa.html?_r=1&hpw&pagewanted=all
