  1. Try to spend some time in the LoDo area. Very cool stores, restaurants and bars in a very well done part of town.
  2. While not directly pertaining to the NC$$, this case hits at EA and may help strangle the vestiges amateurism they seek to exploit. http://it-lex.org/ea-cant-use-first-amendment-defense-in-right-of-publicity-case/
  3. Yep. PM me with the costs, including shipping, and give my your info and I'll send you a check from the Second State Bank of the Confederacy. Thanks again.
  4. http://news.yahoo.com/scott-ncaa-changes-come-without-confrontation-192803758.html Some interesting comments from the Pac12 commish.
  5. Some interesting rumbles from the bigger conferences about the NC$$. "The fact is we've made it too easy to get into Division I and too easy to stay there," Bowlsby said. "I think it's virtually impossible right now to configure legislative proposals that have any chance of getting through the system intact that would accomplish anything in the way of meaningful change." No conference commissioner has openly pushed to break away from the NCAA. But big-conference leaders are muscling for more control over their destiny as they move toward the 2014 launch of the first-ever, four-team College Football Playoff. The plaintiffs added six current football players to the group, and NCAA lawyer Donald Remy responded by saying the suit "threatens college sports as we know it." Talking about Ed O'Bannon's putative class action. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324783204578622072850811066.html?mod=WSJ_hps_MIDDLE_Video_Third

And the "funny" thing is that Grant Shaft is an attorney.
  11. To keep the trademark to the Sioux moniker UND has to use it in commerce on occasion. Allowing its use in a movie is a pretty easy way to that without trotting out "throwback" gear and risk upsetting the bedwetters on campus. Then again, I doubt the UND GC is that bright.
  12. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/30/sports/football/risk-for-redskins-in-makeover-of-team-mascot.html?ref=business&pagewanted=all Interesting article on the economics of changing the Redskins' name and logo.
  13. Almost as bad as anything CJ "writes". Apparently, James missed the recent Strib article about how North Dakota is wooing Minnesota businesses with lower taxes, incentives, etc. which are the trip for the billboards.
  14. It's amazing how many people screw themselves by thinking their employer's email service is their own property. I'd be willing to bet in the terms of use, and other employment-related documents, there are very specific provisions dealing with use, deletions, tampering, etc. For example ... http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20130628/NEWS/306280029/Sebring-sues-Des-Moines-school-district-over-emails?Frontpage
  15. Personal accountability is not a hallmark of higher education, and not just at 'su.
  16. Perhaps he was communicating with headhunters after reading the Chronicle of Higher Education, a pharmacy in Mexico for ED refills or some "girl" in Thailand ...
  17. "Deleted emails" never really go away. You just need to know where to look. -NSA That said, deleting emails subject to an official request could be grounds for termination in the "real world". Not so sure if academia would qualify ...
  18. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/22/opinion/nocera-the-lawsuit-and-the-ncaa.html?hp&_r=0 Nocera nails it. And Byers' own prophetic thinking about bringing the NC$$ to heal mirrored some of our own during the moniker fight.

  20. Agreed. Unless the 'hawks can solve Rask they are going to have a very tough time taking this from Boston.
  21. More grist for the mill ... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-06-14/is-the-ncaa-more-corrupt-than-miami-hurricanes-.html

  23. One more case the NC$$ should really worry about, especially since this one has an appellate ruling unfavorable to EA and to them. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323648304578497470449718436.html?mod=WSJ__MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsForth
