  1. If this is worst thing these guys do off the ice, then we're pretty damn lucky. As for the RA, what a jackbag.
  2. If the playoff model holds for FBS, (read: makes them a lot of money) there may little incentive for those powerhouse teams to schedule FCS schools in the future. if you lose or nearly lose to a good team early on and have a great season, they playoff gods may look more favorably on you than if you pasted Florida Atlantic by 50 points or so. Some talking heads were discussing the Wisco-LSU matchup and comparing that one to the Oregon and Nebraska games.
  3. I'm certainly no fan of 'su, but it was kind of fun at Trice watching the ISU faithful deflate against "some second tier, FCS school" as someone called them. Good on the Bison. Now, I have to shower ...
  4. Kinda like the elusive Jackalope?
  5. Hawks? Prairie Wolves? Rabid Chimpmunks?
  6. I was watching the FSU game last night, and they panned to a couple fat white guys in "war paint" in the Seminoles' colors. I love watching the NC$$'s hypocrisy on full display in prime time HD.
  7. Not only was he a great Sioux hockey player, Dixon was a helluva good guy off the ice too.
  8. In some respects, I almost feel bad for the NC$$. Almost ... http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/28/sports/jeffrey-kessler-envisions-open-market-for-ncaa-college-athletes.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&version=HpSum&module=second-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news#
  9. The railroads will also need to consider the new proposed rules and faster timelines that the feds have rolled out for new and retrofitted rail cars hauling petroleum and ethanol. I think the biggest obstacle to a new pipe line, like the one that's being proposed to bring Bakken crude to a refinery in Ilinois, is the farmers and state regulators who can delay the thing for years if they do it right.
  10. North Dakota's two top industries are now competing for rail cars. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/26/us/grain-piles-up-waiting-for-a-ride-as-trains-move-north-dakota-oil.html?ref=business&_r=0#
  11. No Panzers? It might also be better to break them down by position. Comparing Belfour to Parise makes no sense.
  12. He's probably a Peace Studies dropout.
  13. Those people should be flogged with a cat o' nine tails ...
  14. That could be huge if they can pull it off. They have a pretty decent list of VCs backing them, so they may be on to something.
  15. Even when I lived in MSP and had Wild season tickets, nobody could tell me what "The Wild" meant. Someone in my crew who worked in advertising suggested that it was really a logo with a marketing-driven name tied to it and had nothjng to do with the state. In my view, if/when UND gets a new moniker that has to be explained to the "average" person, it will be a bigger loser than any other replacement for Fighting Sioux.
  16. Once you factor in the transient population who will leave because other fields beckon, they've made enough money, their long-distance spouse has threatened to divorce them or the winter finally drives them out, I don't think Williston or Minot will pass Fargo anytime soon. Bismarck, maybe. Then again, single industry towns have a way of collapsing under their own weight. See, Watford City and Williston in the 1980s.
  17. Hey, no good deed goes unpunished. That said, I could really care less what name or moniker is chosen. I'm sure it will be lame and inoffensive to even the most sensitive souls. My loyalty and money go to the school. And I have more Sioux gear than is probably legal in most states.
  18. Pretty much. Even today, the lack of a new moniker fosters a lot of discussion about the NC$$ and the fight we waged to keep the Sioux moniker around my neck of the woods. A new label might further bury the Sioux moniker in the minds of most people, and perhaps that's what the bedwetters want.
  19. Only as long as the Bakken keeps producing profitable oil.
  20. In other words, 14 stoned music appreciation and _____ Studies students with nothing better to do, and a few geriatrics with comb-overs and pony tails who dodged the draft in the 70s will scream and chant in front of local TV cameras.
  21. Nope, we're realists around here. Money trumps principles all the time. See, e.g,, The NC$$. We did it when we gave up the Sioux moniker to help ensure a move to D1 and avoid sanctions that would have definitely impacted the school and its athletic programs.
  22. In other words, if there's money on the table it's okay to shelve your deeply-held principles. Mark Emmert, is that you?
  23. In other words, the long-running mask of "amateurism" has finally started to slip.
