In the "real world" it's often not possible for someone to delete the only copy of his own emails that might be subject to an official request. Poor risk management on their part if it's true.

No one gets banned for having a viewpoint distasteful to Sioux fans. On the rare occasion someone does get banned, its for repeatedly violating one of these rules: Forum terms and rules Threats and harassment, and politics and religion are pretty straightforward to interpret. Trolling is a little more subjective -- in a discussion about the likelihood of UND getting a Big Ten invite, I don't think a Bison fan shooting it down saying he thinks it's unrealistic is trolling. I think that's debate. On the other hand, a Bison fan spamming every thread about UND football with how much he thinks UND sucks is clearly just trolling. There's a lot of space in between those two that requires subjective interpretation. About the only thing UND has going for it is being good at hockey, but the B1G confirmed that being good at a sport isn't as important to them as other factors by adding Rutgers and Maryland. The formula became pretty clear with the recent additions -- institutions should be an academic peer with the other institutions and provide a significant revenue opportunity. In short: 1) Be on this list AAU membership, 2) open a new market for the Big Ten Network (JHU/UMD = Baltimore/DC MSA, Rutgers = New York/New Jersey), and 3) have a big fan base to demand that channel from local cable providers.

Ok, I'll go with the Twitter widget for now. It's a bit tougher to combine searches and lists of people like I was doing myself before, but Twitter's widget is also a lot better than back when I originally felt the need to do it myself. I've been meaning to reimagine that whole section for quite a while, maybe this will light a little fire under me. But, this should have us back up and running for now.

Exactly -- the 2nd part is what's going to be a couple hours work, processing the new return format. However, there are also some new display requirements (e.g. all the tweets have to be rendered with all usernames, hashtags, @s "live" like they would be if you were on twitter itself). For now I may just fall back to a feed of specific people, using Twitter's embedding capabilities and ponder whether it's still worth rolling my own going forward.

Yeah, twitter made a change that I'm going to have to figure out how to deal with. Will do so soon.

As the season draws to a close, the playoffs have maintained the somewhat different look I noted at the beginning. In the East, the Devils seem out. Philly seems out. Rangers are on the bubble. It could also be quite Canadian -- 2 of the Canadian teams have clinched (Montreal, Toronto), and 2 can still make it (Ottawa, Winnipeg). I don't follow the West much, but the Redwings (21 season playoff streak!) are currently on the outside looking in, but do seem to control their own destiny. Minnesota and Columbus would both make it if the season ended today.

We've been through lots of versions of lots of forum software over the years, including one complete switch in products. My guess is that they were renumbered at some point. I notice that administrator is #2 and I'm #3, so #1 was probably reserved for some built-in account at some point.

Not so funny story... about five years ago at a Frozen Four (St Louis?) a lot of people were introducing themselves to each other by SiouxSports handles at the UND party. Later that night, I was wearing one of my SiouxSports.com sweatshirts and chatting with some guy at a bar when a friend outed me to the guy. The guy said, "nice try, Jim is a guy much older than you". As flattered as I was, the two events led the said friends and I to come up with the plan to make SiouxSports caps where each cap had each person's unique handle on the back. Mass customization technology didn't quite prove to keep up with our idea, and we were never able to get the caps. Nice to see the dream coming to fruition. I haven't really looked into it the last few years, expecting SS to become obsolete in favor of UNDBlizzardsFans.com caps in coming years.
