I apologize for bringing what ended up being a political post to a hockey thread. I was trying to use a little humor. We have generally done a good job of keeping these threads relatively politics-free, and while political discussions are interesting and beneficial, I like being involved with you guys in a hockey discussion which, while it has its own tension at times, is free from the intense partisanship that political discussions have come to involve. My bad. Back to hockey. Tonight: Eleventy billion to 1, WMU. We score one with the goalie pulled just before the end of the first.

I agree. As long as the stay high in the PW, it's not too late to learn hard lessons. Whatever happens until then, they need to go into regionals hungry.

The Rule Book followed by every decent Sioux fan I know clearly states that no UND player may be called for an infraction unless UND is up by at least 3. Even then, it must be clearly identified as an "equalizer" penalty. You disagree? Fight me.

Could be. If the opposing team has been abusing the goalie (outside the usual shyt that goes on after a freeze), then he needs to be protected. But if that is not happening, I like it that he is trying to keep his boys out of the box. It's usually just face-wash theatrics anyway, not real enforcement. If he prevents a cross check minor in a close game, good for him.

Interesting. Are you close to the players, so you feel comfortable saying how they feel about it. I frankly like it that Thome takes ownership of what goes on in his crease area. It's his domain, and I'm guessing his teammates are good with how he manages it, including those he held back. Just a guess. I don't know any of those guys.

That's right. Quite a reversal from the pre-Alvarez era. I remember going to Badger football games when fans just went for the band and the party--they knew the team would probably lose. Meanwhile, hockey was a powerhouse.

Not purely, but people need to be careful about being too simplistic about it. There are other factors, including, as Berry mentioned last night, a very large and experienced senior class. And a definite talent uptick. It would be just as easy to say Pinto's arrival has made all the difference. I personally believe it's a host of factors, all good.
