Must have been proud, though, Goon. He was, and is, a hell of a hockey player.
-
And some of us have the added advantage of seeing it all from their box on the Ledge.
-
Sounds on radio like UND is dominating play but cant bury it.
-
Then, of course, we both have guilt issues. Like the guilt that drove gfhockey to drink and misspell everything.

Back in the day, I used to cheer a full 60. Then I started to cheer about 50 and sort of space out for 10. Now, I might cheer for 25, space out for 10, and biatch for 25. I worry a lot and have performance issues of all kinds. A sweep would have helped. If we don’t get the split, I just don’t know— maybe switch to Duluth.

I suppose I started listening to sports in the early 60s, but not so much Sioux hockey, so he is unfamiliar to me. That said, it is difficult to describe to young fans how important radio play-by-play was to us oldies who did not grow up with streaming video or even cable. Those guys (rarely women) were our eyes and ears both. -

The Tims were the best. -
Funny, isn’t it? The Ledge may have been vacant Sunday morning, but there were people headed for the elevators.
-
One part of that is winning face offs while on PP. They seemed to lose a lot of PP draws against the gophs, resulting in 200’ clears and a big loss of time.

If I thought that post was in any way serious, I’d give it a neg rep too. 😄

See. I told you DJ would just be more of the same. We want Sandy.

Do you remember an atmosphere like that in the last 10 years, Blackheart?

Yeah, especially at D. -
I suggest we get the cliche’s out of the way early, since they seem to be obligatory. A start: Play a full 60, One shift at a time, Stay out of the box, but Play Sioux hockey, Crisp passes, This above all: Beat the bastids within an inch of their lives.

I think Jordan needed time for the game to slow down just a little for him. His decision making with the puck took a big jump. -
People say that. I don’t know: I think it’s just as important to win the Saturday game.

The North Dakota/Minnesota Hockey Rivalry: A Trip Down Memory Lane

Maybe 1971; gophers in town for a series at the old barn. Much-hated gopher bad guy Bill Butters gets ejected for fighting. In those days, the players’ access to the ice was in the corner below the student section at the west end. Little if anything separated the players from fans between the ice and the dressing room access maybe 50-70 feet away. Butters gets into a fight with fans on his way to the dressing room, and we had ringside seats from the bleacher seats right above. That fight got more attention and drew more boos and cheers than what was happening on the ice. Thats what I remember, at least, through the fog of too much booze then and too many years after. I think Butters loved the bad boy role and performed his part accordingly. Sioux/Gopher hockey had an All Star Wrestling flavor to it back then. The overall quality of play on the ice is better now, but those were fun times. -
That sounds a bit naive
-
Thing I always wonder about gopher fans is why they all have those big, sloping foreheads and those extra long forearms. That, and all that body hair.

Jax has them in arrack mode offensively (while, at the same time, preaching grit and responsibility). IMO, top talent wants to attack; it’s in their blood. BB did a lot of things well, but I THINK (don’t know) his teams sometimes chafed at the speed governor that was careful play. -
During the last several years, a lot of fans here expressed the opinion that Karl was upward bound.

Great history, farce, as usual. And it explains things, doesn’t it?

gfhockey yesterday and gfhockey the day before are not even the same person. Thankfully, for who would want more of any one version of himself? 😁 gfhockey: he doesn’t always drink, but when he does he drinks anything he can get his hands on.
