Mismash. It's always been clear he has a lot of skill, but it took a while for that to start paying off, as it did with Kawaguchi. But he's really coming on this year. Seeing that slow bloom and the manner in which he takes penalties, it makes me wonder if he is just maybe doesn't have a lot of on-ice intelligence. Pure speculation on my part and probably not very responsible speculation at that.

I can see why they might be rusty, but this performance might say something about JBD's on ice leadership.

Not just that. It is rare for any team to go through the season without dropping a game or games to teams that do not have much chance on paper. Hockey is not unique in that, but with the average game's score being pretty low in any case, an off night, some pipes and bounces, and a hot goalie, anything can (and does) happen on any given night, even if the players are not looking past the opponent. This team seems pretty good in that area. In addition to more talent, the leadership of this group must be better.

First rounders usually perform at a pretty high level as freshmen, and they rarely stay around longer that soph. But we are hardly ever talking about more than two players. There has to be enough speed and skill in the rest of the roster, something we have lacked the last couple of years, but that is no secret.
