2026-27 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

To make it insultingly worse, it was actually 5 on 2 for a time with UND in possession and a Badger player hurt, on his knees, and without a stick. A little like blowing a 4 on 0 breakaway. -

Yeah. Does that speak to his utilization at both schools or his willingness to play D? Both, probably. -

If I read the chart correctly. Zellers was +3 this year and Reschny was +13. -

+/- numbers result from a number of factors, but does that positive rating suggest that, after he got to UMich, his defensive play was not that bad? -

What was his +/- this year? -
Is the draft a timing consideration for any announcement from Verhoff?

In the era of NIL, I suppose recruits will show a visible interest in other blue bloods they are less serious about as a tactic to increase bargaining leverage. Whether it works is another matter.

Sports fans can be the most fickle and needy gossip mongers on the planet. Worst when their team loses, of course.

It would take a pretty needy fan not to be proud of this team and what it did this year.- 296 replies

I have made fun of Ledgies and probably always will. At the same time, I had no problem with the coaching change last year. You don’t have to conclude a coach is utterly incompetent or lazy to make that change. If the team misses the Tournament too many years running, you just be straight with that coach and tell them you have to make the change. These coaches are paid well (well enough) and they know the deal. A player may work hard and be a nice guy, but if performance is not there after sufficient opportunity, coaches understand what to do. But don’t demonize just to make a difficult task easier to carry out. -
During my first tour at UND, I think the team had a Gary Burggraf. Brother or cousin to Frank, maybe?

McKenna hasn’t won the Hobey or been drafted #1 overall yet, but how do the experts among you compare him to Celebrini in terms of NHL readiness? Was Celebrini expected to immediately perform the way he did?

Thanks for the replay, Blackheart. Timely. Couple of thoughts: Kudos to Bucky fans for standing strong and loud long after the game was basically out of reach, even giving a standing O as the clock ran out. And that wasn’t a Cinderella team, having won the title the year before. Phil Sykes. Any other Sioux play in 3 championship games, as he did?

It will change the coaching side in a big way. Like I said, it will be like Pitino coaching a new team of McDonald’s All Americans every year.
-
Will coaching blue blood hockey become a little like coaching Kentucky and Duke in BB. New squad of high draft picks every year? The top 10 players in North America aren’t going NCAA, but . . .

I have a close friend who is a Western grad and a bunch who got graduate degrees at MSU. All of them hate UMich, of course. Feels to me like everyone who is not a life-long Yankees fan hates the Yankees.

Probably true. All depends on how modern you are.

At least the Twinsies have modern day WS rings. Fairly modern.

When DU won the first of their recent titles after many years of frustration, most of us were very happy for him. During trying times, he always managed to stay on the high road—a true fan of college hockey. Now that DU has become a perennial force, Puck can go ahead and suffer with the rest of us—more this year 😁. But I meant it when I said the two of you would have a lot of hockey memories to share.
