  1. Melody Gardot My mother suffered a traumatic brain injury several years ago. During recovery (actually, still struggles with this) she struggled to verbalize the word she was thinking. Her physical therapists suggested humming or singing, techniques that can help some sufferers improve their ability to verbalize their thoughts. It did provide some assistance to my mother, though she improved enough she did not continue that type of therapy. There was enough there for me to believe music in some way can have a positive effect with brain injuries.
  2. This thread says the NCAA admist they are corrupt, so this article isn't really about the NCAA literally admitting it, but based on this piece, aren't they essentially admitting it? http://www.startribune.com/ncaa-s-hypocrisy-becomes-ever-clearer-in-unc-investigation/378531195/
  3. That guy fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against Siouxman when UND hockey is on the line!"
  4. I would guess a lot of the groundwork on most of them started before Hak left. Maybe some of the most recent ones, not so much.
  5. You think we're not lucky to have Brad Schlossman covering UND hockey? http://apsportseditors.org/newsletter/grand-forks-heralds-schlossman-wins-under-30000-beat-writing/
  6. I'm not sure what's to fear about some fans who may continue to cheer "Let's Go Sioux". All UND athletes will know exactly who they are cheering for.
  7. Absolutely fantastic piece. Read it multiple times. So many great nuggets of interest to someone who enjoys learning "the rest of the story" besides just what happens on the ice. Farce Poobah mentioned the Gasparini bit as his favorite. I probably have too many to mention, but little tidbits like how Cam Johnson's feeling on the red carpet, or how he was nervous for the first game but not the 2nd.....Sanderson and Chyzyk jumping in a random car to grab a bit to eat, Berry calling Hak first thing back in his room, the bit about the AC for the locker room, etc. And hats off for a tight beginning and ending to the story. The ending just blew me away.
  8. I'm glad they didn't. Nothing against the black jerseys but green is the schools primary color, and I for one am glad they played the championship game in a traditional jersey.
  9. I admit I had similar questions as many others about whether Luke Johnson is ready to move, but when you add "got his degree" on top of "national championship" it's pretty easy to understand the decision. Heck "got his degree" is pretty good in and of itself. Good for Luke, and good luck!
  10. totally agree with you but this isn't an REA or sports fan phenomenon. try taking your cart through the grocery store or even push your way through the vestibule after church...it's just what people do. ticks me off to no end, but it's common.
  11. From his twitter/picture I kind of got the impression he was leaving the program. Glad to hear my perception was incorrect. Or likely incorrect.
  12. I'll make myself available to cover the road games.
  13. Well, you've come to the right place! You said it better than I could have. This was a VERY talented team with the best goaltending we've seen in many, many years. As good or better than Karl G even. We look at the final scores and it looks like we blew away the NCAA field, but IMO that's not the case. Every game had a fulcrum that could have tipped either way, but this team did find a way to tip it their way. And had some good fortune that eluded many of Hak's NCAA teams.
  14. Probably disowned him for going MJ instead of UND.
  15. I'm not going to criticize anyone until I hear he risked his future to play. The guy hit 1 or 2 posts. You hit a post, that could just have easily have been a goal. Clearly the guy was able to contribute, it just didn't quite work out for him.
  16. Geez, Tomek could be as good as Zane and he wouldn't have beat out Cam this year. Cam had an absolutely fabulous year. With the way he played, how do the coaches try someone else out down the stretch? Tomek will have to bide his time, prepare, and hope to win playing time next fall.
  17. Was also surprised this was his first trip to a FF I
  18. I agree with you for the most part. UND earned their wins. They peaked at the right time, and showed they were as good or better than the competition.
  19. On the other hand, if QU misses a couple of posts just a bit more inside, and 1-2 pucks don't bounce over stick blades on cross-ice passes and this would have been a real clencher of a game. People might rip me for saying this, but UND had a lot of the good fortunate that has eluded them in several past NCAA tournaments paid off in this game. Don't get me wrong....I think UND played a very very good game and they deserved to win the game based on how they played. I think QU had a little of the bad luck that has so often bitten UND. For me, you play that game again the next night and it could have gone the other way. I do recall the TV guys saying after the 1st period that the QU coach said it may have been their worst period of the year. I'll go back to Siouxman's question....was that on QU, or was that because of UND's play. Probably some of both. That final score was lopsided, but I think QU showed they were a very dangerous team and didn't have a few things go their way that really would have tighted this up. They DID have the benefit of the officiating, IMO. So they had THAT going for them.
  20. You read what Stecher said about that speech and you maybe get a hint at why so many of Gino's guys are coaching at various levels of hockey.
