  1. I think in general you and I are on the same page on this topic. I do think if you put this logo on a trucker hat it will look like it's from a seed dealer or the ND farm bureau.
  2. I think there is middle ground between a cartoon and corporate. I'm also not creative enough to make money creating this stuff so I can't develop an option. But take the Iowa Hawkeye logo. I don't see that as cartoonish or corporate, yet it's pretty simple. That's just one example.
  3. He's a college player. He might never see the light of day with that organization. Hope I'm wrong
  4. I don't think I said anywhere that we should accept this and never improve it. But I think anyway who says it's the worst logo ever are not realistic (UNDBiz clarified that with his post of awful logos). But just because we say "it could have been worse" doesn't mean we don't also want better. I'm just trying to be objective. I actually like this
  5. Shared with mine as well. Neither my wife nor son are big athletics boosters, but my son immediately said "looks like a bank" and my wife felt the same. Both thought it was ok, but too corporate looking. I think this is important, and I agree. Some people think this is the worst logo every, and I think that's hyperbole. Look at some of the crap out there. I'm not enamored with this one, but man, it could have been SO much worse.
  6. Always liked this one, still like it much better than what was unveiled. one of my first reactions as well. I thought the same thing. I don't expect them to like it and they have the right to express their opinions. But sometimes it's time to take the high road. Especially the captain. That's what I was thinking too. More of an academic logo than an athletic logo. Maybe they'll let people vent over this one and in a year or 2 unveil something that becomes a classic.
  7. You are very right here, and that's important perspective
  8. Agreed. Nice thing is it doesn't look stupid, IMO, so that's good. But not terribly inspiring either. I'd rather have the image itself vs. the ND tacked on to it. That doesn't really appear congruous
  9. There are only about 2 decent mascots in all of sports. And rip me now, but Goldy Gopher is one of them. Bucky badger looks dorky. Most look stupid. That, of course, is just my opinion. Maybe that makes me stuck up, but so be it.
  10. very good to hear, IMO
  11. You know, Schafer ripped the nickname selection process. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind there. He could be saying nice things about the logo "It's really cool" just because he's still repping UND, but if he really didn't like the logo he could have said something nice that seemed a little less off-the-cuff and genuine. Of course, I'm reading an awful lot into a 3 word quote in the newspaper. I'm concerned like the rest of you but am trying to remain hopeful.
  12. I agree, Fetch. It's an interesting phenomenon how relationships can develop via these mediums. I have made friends through these forums as well.
  13. Those aren't my deal, you'll have to google your own
  14. There are definitely other sites that will allow one to indulge in their deepest desires.
  15. This never got farther than being "prospective" so this is probably as good of a spot as any for looking back.....I think someone on this board (Rick?) has made this comment before, and some people have laughed at it. But, here it is confirmed by Michael Russo: Sidney Crosby was almost a Fighting Sioux
  16. See, that's the problem with communication. You see 1 guy in green and 1 guy in yellow, both giving double 1 finger salutes......yet we interpret them completely differently.
  17. I'm no expert but I seem to remember that while Kozek had a great shot, he couldn't get it off without time and space. I haven't watched enough of Wilkie to know if his ability to get off a quick shot is better, or similar. But I suspect that will be the key. Can he get off a shot quickly, without having to take a lot of time to set up the puck perfectly or load up the stick.
  18. Yes, the consultant hired to provide (was it marketing advice?) suggested that some version of "hawks" is a very marketable and safe option, and if I recall correctly argued some other options posed some.........difficulties (Roughriders, etc.). If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
  19. I don't know, I mean...what was the margin of victory?
  20. I'm actually a big fan of these as well, and my preference is usually to go to places like these. But if you are going to have a chain, I think Famous Dave's is a pretty good one...IMO better than most. I'd eat at FD's over an average to below average local joint. But if the local joint can produce food as good or better than FD's then I'm all over it.
  21. In my opinion the nice thing about Famous Dave's is just consistently good, solid barbecue. I live in the Cities and go fairly regularly. I like the mom and pop joints too, but sometimes they can be a little inconsistent depending on the day. Dave's is usually good all the time.
  22. Yes. We still hate the gophers but not seeing their data in the conference standings, not being as connected via message boards, means less relevance, less passion. I absolutely think the emotion is not as high now as it was before, and will continue to diminish over time. Even the games won't mean as much (conference standings not affected as much, etc.) Doesn't mean there's not passion between the fan bases, but if there was a way to quantify it I'd be willing to say it's 80% what it was before. Just my opinion, though.
  23. Same here. Was afraid of almost the same thing.
  24. Looking at how the passenger compartment stayed relatively intact but the rear end folded up like an accordion this must have been by design. And in an accident like this, you have to have some luck too. Must have gone end over end for the rear to smoosh up like that. Simply amazing.
  25. Angry Hawk. Hope not. I think that goes against the public feedback SME was given.
