  1. If REA was subject to open records/open meetings laws and as much public scrutiny as the NDUS and all its members institutions; local, county and state government; and the Alerus Center, etc. are.... you'd see the sausage being made there, too. REA has the benefit of doing all its mistakes behind the curtain instead of in the public eye. Big difference.
  2. Many of them really shouldn't be b!tching after so many years of zero accountability. I know, I know.... it's tough when someone comes in and actually demands proof of results.
  3. Well, he wasn't wrong. It is certainly in the mix and not helping morale. Truth hurts and the SENATE APPROPRIATIONS CHAIR has thin skin. I bet Gjovig made sure ol' Ray got wind of that sound bite real quick.
  4. Life's tough, I know. But sometimes you have to buck up and be a big boy or big girl. In this era of "Me Too" ... it's becoming way too common for folks to run crying to the media when they feel they weren't treated nicely.
  5. He's not. Trust me, I've been on the receiving end of some pointed criticism from the man. He is passionate and demanding and wants nothing but the best for UND, within the external restrictions laid out before him. Never once have I walked out of a frank one-on-one with the man, feeling degraded, demoralized or that our encounter was anything short of professional. If you like the status quo, things may be uncomfortable for you, if you're a motivated go-getter with an entrepreneurial mindset, it's not exactly a cakewalk but it's much smoother.
  6. Trust me. He's far from a bully. If we are going to start a narrative, let's make sure we are darn sure of what we are talking about and not relaying second third hand garbage from the scamps at the Cenex coffee klatch.
  7. And, at least on here, the division and derision is falling mostly along very familiar "party lines."
  8. But the "last time" that Ralph was ticked of at a president publicly it was Kuppy. Remember the famous "Dear Chuck" letter? That's my point. Kupchella retired years after those threats, though.
  9. Wait.. what? Which one? Bakker?
  10. Terms are 5 years, $400,000 base per year .... not sure of extras.
  11. More BREAKING NEWS: North Dakota Head Hockey Coach Brad Berry inks new 5-year contract Bubbs gonna get paid!
  12. It'll probably have to be something gender neutral like the cliched "Swoop."
  13. Beat me to the punch, jdub27. Exactamundo. The sooner we unite under one flag and target our efforts against the Goofers to the east, the Bozos down south and the Bunnies and the Prairie Puppies even farther south, the better. Those are the ones to despise, not ourselves. They are the ones with the lame names and mascots, well, because, for the simple reason they're not us. Time to get right and funnel the hatred in the right direction. Our division kills us. Our opponents' unity is their strength. (steps off soapbox )
  14. I just wish that our No. 1 sport was one that most of America actually cared about. I mean, I love hockey.... but, meh, it's not exactly moving the needle for us.
  15. Plus the fact that the donor(s) specifically asked that their money be used to help students development a mascot. Donor wishes be damned, I guess.
  16. FWIW.... The UND Fighting Hawks logo was/is based on the Red-tailed Hawk, according to folks in the know at a recent Alumni Association meeting I attended.
  17. That was turrrible. A disservice to journalism anywhere.
  18. Good call. Forgot about that. It originally was a product of the gameday committee.
  19. I can understand the cynicism... but from what I've seen this is being led by students and alums. The administration also has said they are staying out of it until the students make their pick. Kennedy also has said that he will defer to the students' design pick, whichever one of the options they vote for. But again, I get what you're saying.
  20. Yes, my mistake.... students and alumni.
  21. Students said they wanted it. Edit: And an alum(s) wanted to put up the money to make it happen. These people have given a lot to the University to help in other areas, such as athletics and academics.
