  1. There is a lot of talk about Tocchett to the Flyers.
  2. Will be interesting to see if the new coaching staff has a wait and see approach on Carson. Hopefully he realizes his potential, but a bad plus minus and lack of production is going to need to be remedied if he hopes to take the next step.
  3. Doubt that information would have been available to us if Schlossman had his way and Berry was still coach. It did confirm to most of us though that the program had underlying issues despite winning some league titles.
  4. That would be the dumbest approach to recruiting ever. Rather than offer Shaugabay earlier, wait until he plays junior hockey, then even before he gets to Duluth, offer his linemate who you aren’t enthralled with a scholarship in hopes to get Shaugabay to transfer after a year at Duluth. Going through that for Shaugabay, and not for the Slukynsky brothers seems insane. I think this one would be an after the fact rumor, as it doesn’t seem plausible.
  5. Nice to see Pinto get to 20 goals.
  6. Cooper Simpson with another goal tonight so far, making it 6 goals in 8 games. In contrast Carson Pilgrim has 7 goals in 55 games.
  7. Sounds like they are looking for a replacement. I am so confused by all of this, as they were talking about a contract and the school was involved, but I thought the schools weren’t involved with NIL. I do wonder what schools were offering our new portal transfer Menghini NIL deals, which Schlossman said.
  8. I think NIL is about to get even more ugly. Tennessee quarterback is holding out of practice to renegotiate his deal. This is disgusting.
  9. Yes, but if Jackson pulled the offer, maybe he wanted to act on getting people who are about the program and won’t skip town like Bumgarner did on other programs in high school. I imagine if he put up big numbers in his first year, that decision would be a lot harder, if indeed it was the coaching staff that pulled the offer.
  10. So did he decommit, or did Jackson pull the offer? The way Schlossman worded it, it could be either way.
  11. I guess I would take a guy that is scoring as many or more goals than 85 percent of forwards in the NCAA. Basically scored as many goals in two years as Perron, with a better +/- and can play physical as well. Everyone lamented Perron, but his numbers are comparable. …and when Schlossman said that if Bump leaves college hockey he would be the leading goal scorer in league games coming back next year. We know how tough the league is.
  12. A couple were quite evident with Stephen Halliday and Scott Morrow. Don’t know how the Halliday thing went down, but he had been committed for years, then not. I don’t care about the timing of the Rizzo decommitment, when you have been through thick and thin with a recruit with multiple injuries for years, you would think you would be on top of his decision to move a different direction, because your relationship through the injuries should have created a bond, unless the constant communication wasn’t there. In today’s game besides being out there being visible to prospective recruits, you have to be in constant communication with your current recruits, showing them you care and are excited for what they will bring to the program, all the while informing them of expectation of them before they reach campus and areas they need to improve before coming in. If we were lax on the prospective recruits, were we also lax on communication with current recruits?
  13. Reminds me of some of the things I heard near the end of Gino’s tenure. Recruiting is a multi-faceted endeavor in that you need everybody, including the current players selling the place. Heard in the latter days of Gino, that the players weren’t doing that, and recruits didn’t feel very welcome. That, and the loss of passion that just naturally diminishes when you have gone through that grind for so many years, and they didn’t have as many built in recruiting opportunities like the elite league where the best talent comes together. Need all facets of our recruiting to come back together, and having a younger guy like Chyzyk will certainly pay dividends.
  14. I can understand why they didn’t recruit Hampton as early as Northern Michigan did the first time, but by the time he committed to Western, he had already proven himself at another level. Not making a move on him the second time around was borderline negligence. Big miss by Karl and Berry.
  15. When they talked about his confidence in his players down the stretch when he didn’t talk to his players during a timeout, I thought that was a bit arrogant. No reminders to the players about anything?
  16. So does Jack Kernan have a new home already, after he decomitted from Minnesota State? Is he going to Minnesota too?
  17. Wouldn't want to miss out on a Shane Pinto. Just saying. Yes, you could lose them to another team with NIL, but you could also lose them to the NHL, so to me if you can get a special talent, you utilize them while you have them.
  18. He can be one of many first round draft picks in Michigan's lineup, or he can leave a mark on a program like Zach Parise and Jonathan Toews while focusing on his craft without distractions. Here's hoping he can make his mark on our program instead of another and can be a part of our Mount Rushmore.
  19. I tell you one thing, this whole portal thing every year really makes me appreciate guys like Griffin Ness even more. The guy could have moved on several times, but chose to stay even though he didn't get a ton of ice time when his numbers should have dictated a little more.
  20. Then what does that say about Duluth that he was on their top line?
  21. I think guys like Keenan and Tortorella all have a shelf life with a team. I believe they are brought in to re-establish discipline through a no nonsense approach. It probably works to begin with, then it gets old. By then, if they need to change coaches again, they at least have a new baseline of discipline to work from. I am guessing our program needs to go through the same transition right now to get to that baseline where we were in the past.
  22. Yes, remember when we put up a 9 spot on the gophers when guys like Jackson LaCombe, Ryan Johnson and Matt Staudacher were freshmen? That group was certainly talented, but fast forward a few years down the line, and they became dominant. Not saying these guys all have the same talent level, but I suspect they will take a nice jump from last year. Fingers crossed, but just being able to put a guy like Zmolek out there in the deciding minutes of the game could be the difference between giving up the winning or tying goal.
  23. We'll see if Ferschweiler can get OMac to quit curling just inside the blue line then turning the puck over with numbers going the other way. Very talented, but I think it will be very interesting to see how OMac and Whitelaw fit into that system. I think their powerplay will benefit quite a bit, but we'll see if Fersch can get them to buy in to the rest of the game.
  24. Me thinks you are suffering from dementia.
  25. We've found out quite a bit that the grass isn't always greener, and that you need to compete for the job at most places, but I guess we will see if he chooses to go that route. Think of all the times where UND has had two guys that played a bit, then the hot goalie took the net down the stretch.
