The guy is such an idiot. Playing in front of nobody is not a great experience for any athlete. Wodon will continue to die on that hill no matter how stupid it makes him look.

This is as of April 2022 according to Schlossman. The fact that Swanson came in smaller and pretty young certainly made it a tougher adjustment for him, as Kawaguchi had more junior seasons under his belt. Drake Caggiula 18 years, 3 months, 11 days — if Cole Spicer came this fall — 3. David Toews 18 years, 3 months, 24 days (NYI, 3rd) 4. Brad Malone 18 years, 4 months, 11 days (COL, 4th) 5. You can't tell me that some of the steam that Penn State has received in their program lately is from their Frozen Four run. The people that kept with mantra of "next year" really brought our program down a notch in the eyes of many people, including recruits. We really need to take the next step to get that steam back, and I would say that Chyzk is a good start in that direction.

I think with these guys, you are looking to get scoring by committee. It is nice to have someone with special skills that can take over a game. We saw what Boisvert did for us as a freshman in big game situations. Where would we have been if he didn't produce in those situations. That doesn't mean these guys are chopped liver, but we will need each of them to produce when the others aren't because I don't know that individually they will be able to take over games on a consistent basis. That said, Western Michigan had the scoring by committee when their difference maker was held in check in the post season. When you can get consistent scoring from different lines that can make it pretty tough for teams to focus on shutting down one player. One thing I like about this group of recruits is it seems from the talk about them is you are going to get consistent effort, which is something we have been lacking. -

Agree that McKenna has the tools to be a very special player, but I think the phrase generational talent gets used quite a bit these days. We have heard the same about McDavid, Bedard, and I think even Lafreniere was said to be a generational talent. If any of these are once in a generation players, so far it looks to be McDavid. -

By decent, I mean top 3 round type talent. Really will suck if we aren't able to give Zellers another high end talent to make the most of his skills. Maybe Swanson can take a step and feed him. The Bruins really need him to develop, so if they don't see him getting the kind of support he needs to succeed, they may push him in a different direction. We really need him to be an impact player next year, which isn't ideal being that the transition is different for a lot of players. -

Give him another year to see if something clicks for him. Seems like we weren't patient with a guy like Stephen Halliday, and he had a pretty good college career. -

Quite the departure from you saying that we were going to get Carter Bear. Was he that tied to Berry? -

We'll see if he can make the transition to college, but very disappointed that we can't even be in the running for any of the top CHL guys. -

Not to be that guy, but if McMorrow is still a possibility and we have two positions open, who would we prefer, being that most of us would like to see a decent CHL guy as well. -
But he is not going to go by just who is the more flashy offensive guy like some would like. Obviously if the upside outweighs the defensive liability which was the case with Blake, that is a consideration, but have a feeling we might need to be winning 2-1 or 3-2 games until Chyzyk can work some recruiting magic.
-
I would be upset if the coaches didn’t bring in the player they thought would best help us win. Frankly, I don’t want a goalie who thinks the net is mine after this guy leaves. I want a goalie who is confident in his abilities to compete whether he is competing against a transfer or a recruited goalie. I don’t think you play “the goalie of the future” unless it is basically a wash. Competition at every position should be the goal of the program, and guys need to earn playing time all the time.
-
Sounds like he is using college as a stepping stone for his career, so who knows. What are the betting odds that any goalie in college hockey sticks around if they aren't getting the playing time they think they deserve? I am very intrigued by this Carter Casey with Waterloo via Grand Rapids, MN as a potential recruit, so it might not be bad if we had room a couple years down the road.
-
They are going to have to compete for playing time regardless. You don't think Hedquist got a chance, but he had an opportunity to hold the net, but didn't.
-
Especially with the backdrop of "not having enough room" for the Slukynsky brothers and other late options like Bump fresh in their minds. You can usually find a hard working depth guy as a last minute substitute like Connor Gaarder, but having room for guys like Bump falling in your lap needs to be take precedence to early recruiting depth guys, if that was indeed the case with this OHL player.

Yes, and we have all seen that he has had flashes of brilliance, otherwise we wouldn't have seen people calling for Berry to be putting him in the net rather than TJ. Goaltending is all about confidence, and when he had it, he was good. "Hey, rookie! You were good." - Field of Dreams quote Wasn't a rookie, but always love referencing Field of Dreams. -
It's one thing to build to a top end team in the CCHA and a contender for top teams in the country. Raboin already built Augustana into a top end team in the CCHA, so a few recruits here and there should put you toward the top end of the CCHA.
-
He interviewed for a reason. The time to strike is when the fire is hot, the opportunities won't always be there.
-
10 post person getting super defensive about a player = questionable objectivity.
-
Only one running their mouth is you. Come on this board and spout your nonsense and expect people to take you seriously. Your garbage is old already.
-
I think if we are talking depth players, then in line with Jackson’s strategy it probably needs to be someone connected to the region or the program, otherwise you may be needing to replace them often because if they aren’t playing they are more apt to enter the portal. Not sure how many guys like Coltyn Sanderson would stick around with today’s portal, and the reason he became a contributor on a Championship team is because he put in the time with the program and knew what the coaches expected of him. Need those depth guys that can fill in and have experience from being upperclassmen.
-
I think we saw last year the reason he definitely could make it to the NHL, because of the way he thinks the game and was two steps ahead of other guys. It is amazing that someone with his size, and not really as fast as a lot of smaller guys, can be such an impact player right away. His hockey mind is truly elite.
-
I see Sanderson in the running for the Norris Trophy in the not too distant future.
-
McKenna aside, there are a handful of guys that could help our team quite a bit, and getting one of those shouldn't be a bridge too far. If other programs start pulling some of these guys it will be more upsetting.
-
Hopefully they have other CHL guys that they can persuade to play college hockey. If a program like North Dakota can't pull a high end CHL player or two now, then the program really has become irrelevant.
