There's an article on the NHL draft in the new ESPN the Magazine that showed up in my mailbox yesterday. (Mario Williams cover) The writer follows the Blue Jackets through the combine to the draft. It's a must read and worth the $4.99 if you can't find it online. The article focuses on EJ, Kessel, and Brassard but Toews is mentioned numerous times. The writer kind of turns it into a Kessel-bash for most of the article. He paints him as a malcontent who's lazy and doesn't get along with teammates based on the Blue Jackets interviews. A very interesting read into what the players go through during those couple of weeks until draft.

Hit the hardest by underclassmen off-season departures? Ya Think? Duh Isn't it that way for the Sioux every year? Although, I don't know how the goofers will overcome the loss of up-Chucko. That'll be a tough one.

In reality it was more than probable that Stafford was going to leave this year, especially after Zajac and Smaby went. I couldn't see him coming back with the NHL contract stuff regarding senior college palyers in addition to saving face. He had a great year and really became a leader on the team but I always expected more from him. I'd really get frustrated when he'd loaf back to the bench or do the same move everytime he went one-on-one with a defender. Sometimes the toe-drag-walk-around would work but most of the time it wouldn't and he'd keep doing it. I wouldn't say he was soft but he'd become invisible in some games and disappear. These are small criticisms for a guy that made great improvements from a 17 year-old freshman. He's a great talent and I wish him nothing but the best in the pros! Too bad becuase I think he'd been a serious Hobey canidate next year. Hopefully, he'll take Vanek's spot and send the rodent to the minors!

Chris Chucko signs a contract to play pro hockey. Good riddance to an average player that had more hype than production. If he's gone, half of UND's roster should turn pro becuase apparently it's not that hard to get an NHL contract.
