  1. It was a toss up. We need to get our road woes figured out so we can play at home in the playoffs. If today proved anything it’s that home field matters.
  2. That is my thought as well.
  3. Not sure he can afternoon he signed his letter of intent.
  4. There is benefit for the MAC but props to them for seemingly saying if you take one sport you may as well find a home for all of them. In today’s athletics where cash is king you have to protect yourself and be a bit selfish to remain competitive
  5. The most organized and detail orientated one. The stories I have heard from families that have taken visits to Grand Forks and Fargo are very different. It’s not facilities, opportunities, or dollars. They are just comparing the punctuality and layout of the day. It needs to be treated like a big deal
  6. Them and another playoff team for FB?? Still think the Summit league membership should be hung out there for any teams leaving the MVFC.
  7. Speculation or what you have heard? Outside of this years meltdown what part is the dumpster fire? Facilities, conference, NIL? perhaps some of the administration but stepping back does Bubba now having a voice in the department help that?
  8. Stop, he’s telling himself a great story here.
  9. UND is a funny/unique place. What I’ve learned from reading this board is the UND HC on controls everything and makes every decision in the program when you want him fired. Assistants bear zero responsibility. At other schools coordinators (when judging applicants) it is about their results only (forget team turnover) and the decisions they made for their school as they have all responsibility for that groups performance.
  10. How much of their football did you follow this year??
  11. What type of staff the new coach can assemble and what excitement they can bring to drive NIL are more important to me than any head coaching experience. Experience with how FBS schools are doing it weighs heavier to me than how Bemidji and Mankato are doing it.
  12. lol. You will support until the first loss.
  13. You keep with this argument but statistically they were not worse than the year before he got there and they lost 10 starters on defense along with a portion of the two deep. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not and there are plenty of ways to make the stats tell any story you want but it’s not like he inherited an above average defense and ran it into the ground. He inherited no experience, had to rebuild it and performed as well as expected in one year. Bigger indicator of his abilities for me is a top 5 coach in the country trusted his abilities enough to want to retain him on his staff when moving to the most storied program in college football.
  14. I don’t think you released them. Only hurts you the next time around.
  15. Agreed
  16. If the “inbreeding” has the confidence and swagger of a Dale Lennon as a head coach I have zero problems with it. I guess the question I am asking in an interview is how are you building your staff.
  17. When arguably the best coach in college football wants you to go from Fresno State to Washington to Alabama you are doing something right regardless of what your 2013 stats say
  18. Lots of good names thrown out there. I’ll get behind any of them but if I had to choose I’m going with Schmidt.
  19. Did UNDs offense average more PPG than Idaho this past season?
  20. Also for what it’s worth and I know I posted this before, Caruso wanted to hire Freuchte as his OC at St. Thomas last year before UND grabbed him. Had Landry not flipped to FU that would likely have been the staff at St. Thomas. Maybe that doesn’t make the interim title as awkward. Just spitballing a little more, not saying he is the guy.
  21. If Kelly mentioned Joe Woodley today he is likely in the conversation.
  22. I like him. His intensity is noticeable. Only concern I have is not knowing full story on QB situation. In some of those games a change was needed and not made. Could be a learning curve for him as well
  23. His WR recruiting is actually much more impressive. lines were aweful and defenses were average at best. If defense is a knock on Schmidt it certainly is a huge knock on Baldwin. Line okay was kind of non existent. Game was simply score more points which he was very good at in wide open west coast football. I’ll give the benefit if Vigen can adjust to the BigSky a coach like Baldwin could likely adjust to MVFC.
  24. I imagine the TV graphic they do with QBs where they don’t show the picture or names and just show stats. They do that with Schmidt’s coaching experiences he’s gained since leaving UND and it’s pretty impressive. Couple that with DeBoer wanting him to go with to Alabama but Eric wanting DC experience and you have a coach that is hungry to move around. The safe play would have been stay hitched to DeBoer and make your money being a special teams coordinator….and then maybe get promoted a few years later if a DC ever moves on and potentially a HC years later. Different path but with any success as a FCS HC same outcome. No idea of his interest and some solid other names have been discussed but I’m in on Eric if they can do it quickly and the current OC staying on after a year of getting his feet wet at this level. I’ve had the chance to meet him and really was impressed with his intensity as a coach. Would look forward to what year 2 would look like.
  25. If you are cutting ties with a coach….why keep him around. Little value in that other than any optics.
