I agree with this. If you go back and watch the game the SDSU corners were still at times pressing our WRs in the 3rd quarter, they were still blitzing LBs and their safety's were still playing at their regular depth. Not once did they back off their DBs and start running some umbrella defense. The same routes were there that were there in the 1st and 2nd quarters, the throws got there and we didn't bail them out by dropping some easy ones like we did in the 1st half. We were playing with a sense of urgency and our offense was running at a quicker pace. If I had more confidence in our defense a faster pace offense may be better suited for our talents. Unfortunately, I don't trust our defense would get off the field if we had a couple quick 3 and outs.

Saturday the Grizzlies make their return to Grand Forks and will want revenge from the game last season. I have heard they are bringing a pretty good crowd with them again so it should be a pretty fun game inside the Alerus. Tailgating last season with the Grizz fans who made the trip was almost as fun as the game itself. There are still a lot of questions after last weeks game that need to be answered about this North Dakota team. Who is at QB? Do any other RBs get some carries? Can our OL play better? Does the defense play with the effort from the last quarter and a half vs. SDSU? I'd like to think that there will be some shuffling of the depth chart based on the play of some guys on Saturday. What are everyone's thoughts? Link from last years game for those that need a reminder. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPID=6399&DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205716806

The spark in the defense was started when the offense got some momentum going again. We had lost it and the qb change sparked The entire team. We'll find out next week if one guy has the "it" factor that motivates an entire team. That could be the biggest difference between the two.

That is not UNDs fault. SDSU was still pressing our wrs. They didn't go into prevent like some want to believe. They still tried to run on 2nd and 3rd and shorts and couldn't convert. The effort and fire our team had after Molberg came into the game was a night and day difference from the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I agree with what oxbow said earlier, the most frustrating thing about our team is the roller coaster in effort as these big games go on. Next week I need to see effort from start to finish and a team that took the half a game beat down they got yesterday personal.

They would have been 3rd and fifteen if that penalty is called not in position to force anything. Getting the ball back with two more minutes on the clock would have been huge. Not saying it changes anything but you can't argue the difference with a freshman qb at the helm.

Great first post by the way. How'd the d2 look at the dome yesterday.
-
I think that's called an opinion.
-
They made some poor calls but they didn't miss tackles, drop passes, turn the ball over or get out muscled for two and a half quarters up front.
-
Welsch played well tonight at the de spot as well. I agree with the posts above, there was time earned tonight and some evaluating to be done before next week.
-
This along with being minus three in turnovers, I'm shocked we didn't lose by more. Not a recipe for success
-
When Edwards was playing NG Hensen moved to DE. There will be some new numbers in the starting line up next week.
-
I think we have to take the ball first and try and get some early points if we get the option. If I was SDSU I would want to do the same and get our defense on the field to see what we have.

Have to stop the run today. Freshman qbs can't play like a freshman.

I don't disagree about that. What I don't know if there was a signed contract that UND walked away from. MSU bought out a signed contract and what he is claiming is UND did the same. I'm not aware of a signed contract, just an assumption there was going to be a game in 2004.
-
Was there a signed contract with a buyout? Your comparing the two like there was and I'm not sure there was a signed contract, just an assumption the game was going to continue. We all know UND held the press conference but did they walk away from a signed contract like MSU did?
-
Was there a contract for a game in 2004? I don't know the answer for certain.
-
Answer- No one. They played in 2003. UND won.
-
If you go back and look your the one who brought up the UND vs. FU PPG comparison.
-
I think we'll have a little idea on how SDSU attacks the 3-4 which hopefully helps us out.
-
How much do you suppose having a defense that gives great field position to your offense played into the points FU scored against their opponents. There is more that goes into PPG than just the offense getting the ball and scoring. Last year our defense did not help our offense. FU's defense on the other hand carried their offense and turned the field for them many times throughout the year. Your view of this is flawed as well.

I don't think they pulled Cheatom's redshirt to have him get limited reps. They mentioned in the preseason that Cheatom could play both NG and DE. Edwards if finally getting healthy and will get more and more reps as the season moves along. I am hoping to see this combination this weekend.

The SDSU rushing game makes me very nervous, so does the fact that we have not forced many turnovers in the last year. Beating SDSU will require us to stop one and be on the good side of the other. Still, I can't pick against UND and I feel like this is a week we force a couple turnovers. Not sure on the stopping the run part. UND- 31 SDSU- 28 Zeb Miller kicks a 45 yard FG late to win it. Jameer Jackson has a monster game and his ability to extend short passes becomes our running game in the redzone.

I don't think anyone said if its a passing war- Edge UND (I could not find it posted anywhere). Most everything I've read has stated that we need to slow down one of the best RBs in FCS. If the bunnies are throwing the ball a bunch its a good sign for UND. That either means that UND is succeeding in slowing down Zenner or is ahead in the ball game. Sumner may be good, but SDSU is a run first team and thats not going to change this weekend.

Big day for UND athletics today. I can't wait to watch this building come together.
