Mr and Mrs Siouxman will be in Winnipeg for three days. We are staying with friends and looking forward to the event. I have made many trips to Winnipeg, just not in January.

He is fourth on the team in points per game played and 1st among all freshman in points per game. He may be the dark horse in this freshman class that turns into much more than people expected. His development seems to advance every game and I haven't seen him take a game off yet, unlike some of the upper classmen. While I enjoyed the win over Harvard, there is so much to be fixed. This team is going to continue to take some lumps this year, but I think the future might be looking pretty good. The lumps might be less if the injury rate would go down.

Kelley / SBoHE Deceived the Legislature and ND People
Siouxman replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
Did you mean "nein"? -
For atmosphere, the night of the Gopher debacle against Holy Cross was incredible. For Sioux hockey, one of the greatest was in January 1979 against Michigan. Michigan was up 8-5 with 6 minutes to go. Sioux wound up winning 9-8. This was the first UND hockey game my wife experienced and she has been hooked since. The old Ralph was so loud that night I could not hear the buddy next to me yelling.

I believe there were two issues. First, is that of the remaining WCHA teams the schools with limited budgets were in control of the voting which handicapped trying to do bigger and better things. Second, UND and others wanted to get rid of McCleod but couldn't get enough votes to do it. While some seem to lament SCSU getting in, they are either going to have to pony up big time or they will be the bottom feeder. They won't have UAA, MSU-Mankato, and Michigan Tech to play to help boost their record. Of course, neither will UND or the others. It will be tougher in-conference.

UAA announcer claims that there are just under 25 million Sioux jerseys in the public.

So far, we are going to Winnipeg, Saturday night game in Bemidji, and the Final Five. Who knows what else might be added.

NDH - Some time ago when this all started to come down I felt that you were way overly pessimistic. I was feeling this was all going to shake out without too much distress. I still think that you are overly pessimistic, but not much. UAH is still on the outside looking lost and I don't believe they can survive long-term as an independent. I am having doubts that they can survive even in a conference, because it won't be a conference with the high draw opponents to assist with revenue. The WCHA looks to become a glorified version of the CHA, admittedly somewhat stronger but still a weak sister. Notre Dame has overplayed their hand and no one gives a rip about what they decide to do. I think at this stage they piddled away their opportunity. If they stay independent, at the end of the year they sit and wait while everyone else plays out their tournaments. If they make the NCAA's they will not have played for a couple of weeks at least. So long CCHA. And then, as you point out there are some programs that will have a tough time with the extended travel costs. We will likely see some shrinkage in a few years. As for St. Cloud in the NCHC, I don't see them fitting the supposed vision of the NCHC, but if that means the conference tournament is in St. Paul, that is okay. And, as Dagies pointed out, they are a close travel destination. Besides every league needs a doormat. In summary, I defer to your crystal ball with a little more respect in the future.

I have missed PCM's creativity on this board. His sudo-interview of Spirko is a classic.

It may be that you cannot sue until you have been wronged. So, SL could not sue until the deadline had passed and the NCAA sanctions/requirements kicked in. Then is the fact that you need someone associated with SL to lead the charge. I am guessing the tribal council has other issues to deal with. So now a group steps forward, willing to lead the legal charge, and gets the tribal council blessing to proceed. As Fetch said, stuff had to run its course before it was possible to take the appropriate legal action against the NCAA. In the UND lawsuit against the NCAA, they had identified UND as hostile and abusive. UND could claim injury at that point in a suit. UND wanted (and got) the NCAA to agree that it was not hostile and abusive. That may have been more important to UND than the nickname itself, but that is speculation on my part. Disclaimer: I am not an attorney, although I do work in the legal area. I also did not sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night or recently.

Actually, until a court of law declares it unconstitutional, it isn't. Carlson is right in that the University should not be moving forward with actual actions to retire the Fighting Sioux name. They should be moving ahead with developing plans on the course of action to be followed if the law is repealed. If UND were to move ahead with any specific action retiring the name at this point, they open themselves up to a lawsuit by anyone and everyone that they are violating state law. That would waste more money and resources and create more employment for lawyers. Plan to be able to move ahead, but do not execute anything until the law is actually changed. Whether or not you support the law is immaterial. Moving ahead prematurely could just create a whole new set of issues and costs. As individuals and institutions we are not at liberty to choose which laws to obey.

I must have missed something. How is this related to NDSU?

NDH - I am with you to some extent, sad to see the WCHA as we knew it fade away, especially as we have made it a regularly scheduled event to attend the Final Five. We have also attended a number of regionals in recent years which allowed us to meet more Sioux fans (including you in Madison at State Street Brats). But, the WCHA as we knew it was leaving with Wisconsin and Minnesota. It would just not be the same WCHA without them. So now I am over it and looking forward to the NCHC. Yes, the future is unknown and only time will tell the ultimate impact, positive or negative. Hopefully it is positive and allows more schools to add hockey. If nothing else, we might make more road trips in these last two years of the WCHA than before. Alas, we only had Anchorage to go to, and now the two new arenas, to complete a tour of the WCHA. Besides, we can all still go to the WCHA Final Five or whatever they call it if we don't go to the NCHC tournament, and have MafiaMan arrange a gathering at Hoggsbreath. Now get that leg out of the nursing home and look forward to hockey.

Yes, but they were handing out free tickets by the bucket in Michigan the last few weeks to youth hockey groups and others to get the attendance up.
-
I think you got took if you just received tickets to the 2011 Frozen Four.

In all honesty, Cepis did bring some characteristics to the Gophers that we all like to have on our team and hate to see on the other team. He unfortunately also brought his diving regime and his tendency to do some dirty things.
-
Personally, I watch to see a game and not to see someone demonstrate how ridiculous they can look. This is especially true for celebrations when your team is down by three touchdowns. It is about the team, and not the individual. The difficulty is going to be in where to draw the line. That is going to create the controversy.

Your use of a slang word here is inappropriate, disrespectful of Native American culture, and is part of the problem. Obviously you have the right to free speech, but please consider others in your use of vocabulary that may be considered racist by others.
