  1. I don't think there would be a problem if they just had a simple conversation since they had a previous relationship. Something like, "Has Max decided where he is transferring? Has he thought about Montana?" Much more than that starts to push the limits. Actually promoting a school is definitely beyond the limit. Putting the information from that conversation on a fan forum is a second strike. It is best to avoid anything that could be remotely considered recruiting unless you are paid by the University for that, or you have been asked to help recruit by someone from the University with the authority to make that request. Anything beyond that has the potential to cause a problem for the University and the athlete.

    coaches

I believe that there are cases where position coaches are named assistant head coaches over coordinators on the team. The coordinators keep their positions If that works for the coaches and the team, then it might be a viable solution.
  3. Don't have an iPhone so I've never looked. Check out the app that Fighting Sioux 23 listed. On the internet you can check out thefirstrow.eu under American Football.
  4. It's just like hockey. We go through the same discussion every spring for the NCAA tournament regionals. ESPN pays the NCAA for all playoffs other than Division I basketball. They try to use those rights to drive people to use their products, like Game Day and ESPN 3 and the other ESPN networks. Since they pay the NCAA for the rights, ESPN controls where the games are shown based on how they are going to make money. It is the same thing for Midcontinent and UND sports.
  5. Of course it would be a benefit for Midco. They have stated that they are trying to make it happen by next fall. The question will be whether they can convince the satellite companies that it is a good idea. The email quoted above says that they don't currently have plans to add Midco. They are going to say that until a deal is done. It doesn't mean that the satellite companies will or won't add Midco Sports, only time (or an inside source) can tell us.
  6. Actually, they are booked for almost every weekend of the year. UND hockey weekends push them over the top. But, it is hard to get a hotel room almost every weekend in Grand Forks. That is why several hotels have opened in the last couple of years, 2 more hotels are being built right now, and there is talk of more. It is a good time to be in the hotel business in Grand Forks.
  7. I think that they have only cancelled games through November at this point. They will probably look at games in December by next week. There are rumors that they may just cancel the entire season next rather than play around and cancel a few weeks at a time. But if they just cancel December games for the next stage, they may not cancel January games until close to Christmas.
  8. Very interesting idea. A couple of people before me mentioned a few of the reasons it may not happen. But if it's going to happen, they would have to make a decision in the next few weeks. Switching venues can cause a lot of problems that they would need time to resolve. Ticketing is a huge part of it. They would have to figure out how to place all current ticket holders and exchange the tickets. Then they would have to sell the remaining tickets. A lot of marketing would need to be done to let people know about the different venue. Then there are a bunch of small issues to worry about like transferring equipment, transporting people to a different location, etc. None of the issues are earth shattering, but they have to be figured out and that would take time. They probably need at least a month or more to get it done right.
  9. Like I mentioned earlier, it's a balancing act for Game and Fish. They are trying to balance demand for the licenses and harvest of the game while maximizing the dollars coming in and also giving state residents the most benefit. As a non-resident, you rank lower on their priority list. They've developed their pricing and policies over a period of years.
  10. They don't have to put in so many specifics. They could say something simple like "We are happy to have Don join the NCHC. He will be a great addition to the league." Instead they talked about how well respected he is within college hockey, how much knowledge he has and all of his great experience. And I don't think that Lou Vairo is answering to anyone in the NCHC so he can probably say whatever he wants.
  11. Quotes after Don Adam was named head of officials: Maybe people actually in college hockey know or see something that fans don't about the situation.
  12. Marketing and Management majors. Good communication skills are an important part of business.
  13. Most places seem to be full throughout the hunting season unless the weather gets in the way. Game and Fish would prefer to have enough game available for the existing hunters rather than throwing a bunch of extra people in the field to either drain the populations too much, or not get anything and decide that they don't want to come back in the future. It is a matter of balancing demand with availability. For example, they cut available deer licenses significantly this year because the numbers aren't available right now. Plus, with the oil and everything else going on in the state right now there aren't a lot of places where they are hurting for customers in the restaurant, bar and hotel business. Finding a place to stay can be a problem in most parts of the state.
  14. I believe that North Dakota Game and Fish sets the fees the way they do in part to control the demand, and in part to take advantage of the demand. It is kind of like UND charging more for Minnesota hockey tickets than they do for Anchorage. Demand is high for hunting licenses, and they want to limit the number of hunters to control the harvest, so they charge significantly higher fees for out of state. They consider the available game a resource for state citizens first, so pricing is quite a bit lower for citizens. If Minnesota had concerns about the number of fish available they would either increase fees or limit days for out of state fishermen. From what I've heard, North Dakota is not lacking for hunters, both in state and out of state. The only demographic they have concerns about are young hunters because not nearly as many kids and young adults have gotten into hunting.
  15. I use the mobile version on my phone and it works great. All topics show up just fine. But it doesn't show whether there are new discussions or not.
  16. From the computer is shows up fine, listed right after NCAA News.
  17. Midco can't just put the channel on DirecTV. That is up to DirecTV whether they want it or not. It is a negotiation process. Midco would like to have the channel on DirecTV, someone posted an email they got from Midco saying that they are going to try to do that starting next fall. I was told the same thing by someone from Midco. Your campaign should be to ask DirecTV to add the channel rather than asking Midco to put it on DirecTV.
  18. Sorry, you are right. FBS to FCS is an exception to that rule.
  19. He would have had to sit out a year if he had transferred a year earlier. He graduated from UNC early and is working on his masters degree, which is why he is able to play this season.
  20. Midco hired Hammer, he is a Midco employee.
  21. Bollman did play by play for UND football and basketball for years. He switched back and forth between play by play and color with Swyg for a while. Hennessy helped on football for a little while before the hockey season started, but I don't think he ever did football play by play. Hockey has always been his main focus. My guess is that one of the factors in choosing Hammer over Sweeney may have been wanting a new face for a new broadcast unit.
  22. He was wrong and over the top so I called him on it.
  23. You accused the conference of not respecting UND because the score wasn't on the scoreboard. The accusation was absurd. It didn't take much to realize that they only post 4 scores at a time, and there are 13 football teams in the conference, so not everyone is going to fit on the scoreboard at 1 time. Plus, if you paid attention to the website, they put up scores for all sports and not just football. I found your statement offensive to the conference.
  24. Don't get your panties in a bunch. They only have room for the scores of 4 games at a time on that scoreboard. If you paid attention you will see that they rotate through different scores from the day. They keep a set for a little bit and then go to another set of games. Right now they have 4 volleyball games. But don't let facts get in the way of a pointless rant.
