That was the semi-final round. They play Notre Dame tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon for the final CCHA title. That's why the selection show isn't until tomorrow night.
-
I think they accepted Alabama-Huntsville also.
-
It may come down to Michigan. If Michigan is in, it looks like St. Cloud is out. If Michigan doesn't win the CCHA, St. Cloud has a pretty good chance. I even ran a scenario where St. Cloud is in, but Mankato gets knocked out.
-
UW had a slim chance at an at-large spot if mostly favorites won in the conference tournaments this week. Since there were so many upsets, the winner tonight is in and the loser goes home. The upsets also mean that St. Cloud State is on the bubble. They need the higher ranked teams to win the rest of the weekend, especially in the CCHA tournament.
-
I'm pretty sure that the selection show has been moved to Sunday evening this year because the CCHA is playing their championship on Sunday afternoon.

I agree that there are people in college that really shouldn't be there. I don't place all of the blame on the colleges. Their high schools and their parents should be able to recognize that for some of them and they should be encouraged to look at other avenues. Trade schools are a great alternative for many. Unfortunately, it is part of the culture. People watch television and movies, and assume that everyone should be going to college. College isn't the answer for everyone. On the other hand, just having a lower ACT score doesn't mean that the individual can't succeed in college. It depends on the individual and the reasons for the low ACT score. Some people weren't interested or engaged in high school. Some have difficulty learning, especially in subjects where they don't have an interest. Some come from weak school systems. Some of these individuals can succeed if they have some help getting started. Maybe they need a different entry point rather than going directly to UND. For example, Northland and Lake Region might be places for them to take the first year of generals so they can learn study skills. But saying that they don't belong because of their low ACT scores or other criteria may not do them justice.

University students need to take the broad range of classes for several reasons. One of them is to give people a background in a wider range of topics. College isn't just about learning a trade. It is about exposing people to more ideas and more people. It is about getting them to think about different things, and to think about things differently. And it helps stretch the mind, learning about things that may not be your favorite topic. Letting students focus on just their chosen field would eliminate much of this. Taking the broad range of subjects also gives people a chance to see things they normally wouldn't learn about, which may spark them to take their education in another direction. I know several people that took a required subject in college that totally changed the direction of their career. They found something that really excited them, something they never would have thought about if they hadn't been exposed to it because of a required class. Having a broader range of education also helps a lot of people as they get older. Remember, most people change careers many times through their lives. That is careers, not just changing jobs. Having the broader background can help them transfer to the different careers, and help them pick out the different careers. You may not think that Western Civilization is going to help you, and it may not. But something from that class may end up being useful somewhere down the line. Or maybe it's something from a language class. Or sociology. All probably classes that you wouldn't have taken for your major if you weren't forced to take the broad required classes. College has gotten very expensive, and your idea about personal finance classes would probably help a lot of students. One problem I've seen with students is that they have no idea what they are interested in studying, or they change their mind many times. It might be wise for some students to take time off between high school and college so they can both mature and get a better idea about what they want to do. The problem with this is that many of those would not return to school. Life and money would get in the way. But they would be much more dedicated students and get through school much quicker if they could take the time before they start.
-
I remember when they were discussing the idea. I'm just explaining what some of the challenges would be, and at least part of the reason it hasn't happened yet. You said that there is enough ice in town where they could practice. I'm letting you know that other people believe there is already a shortage of available ice time, so adding another team that would need 1-2 hours per day is not really likely.
-
The Grand Forks Park District is trying to build 2 more indoor ice sheets because there isn't enough ice in town. If they got those built, then ice time might not be as much of a problem. But right now the park district hockey programs, high school hockey teams, ice skating club and independent groups are all fighting to find ice time indoors. The current arenas are used very early in the morning and late at night. And don't forget intramural sports using ice time at REA. East Grand Forks is just as bad. It would be hard to fit in regular ice time for another program like a midget team.

It would take away parking, which is precious already. My guess is that several other things would rank above another practice rink for both REA and for UND. But it would get plenty of use.

NORTH DAKOTA vs. MICHIGAN TECH - Friday Game 1
82SiouxGuy replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Same picture identified as the 1941 Michigan team, http://quod.lib.umich.edu/b/bhl/x-bl003069/BL003069?corig=bhl;lasttype=boolean;lastview=thumbnail;med=1;resnum=21;sid=91222cd16a3de1ad89f6b7b341902327;size=20;sort=bhl_da;start=21;subview=detail;view=entry;rgn1=bhl_it;q1=hockey+team;op2=Not;rgn2=bhl_it;q2=field. Mariucci, would 1941 be before or after the 1970's? -
The Hockey Academy is more than just a development camp, http://www.reahockeyacademy.com/. It includes training programs, camps, clinics, tournaments and more. It takes advantage of the training facilities available at REA. As far as a midget team goes, that would take a lot of money and would also be difficult to schedule with UND Men's and Women's Hockey already taking up a great deal of time. Between practices and games, plus the other events held there, another team would have a hard time fitting into the schedule.
-
I'm not sure what your problem is with Media Relations. They all have specific roles, and they do them well. Jayson was doing his job, working the Men's Hockey game. It isn't his fault that you didn't realize that someone else was taking care of things for the Women's Hockey game.
-
They're Gopher fans. What do you expect from them?
-
You are several years behind the times. Their men's team hasn't been exclusively Minnesotan, at least not always, for at least a decade. They have 4 non-Minnesotans on the roster this year, including someone from Finland.
-
Then they either believe that NDSU is a lock for the NIT, or they have forgotten NDSU.
-
They may be referring to NDSU instead of UND. Both should be under consideration, but based on the other schools mentioned that are hoping for a bid to the NIT it looks like they may have the schools confused, again.
-
These are the tweets from the Women's Hockey Twitter feed, just for the overtime periods. Looks like pretty good coverage if you were following the right feed. Different people in the Athletic Department have different coverage responsibilities just like siouxforce19 said. The UND SID is responsible for the Men's Hockey team and was working at the REA. Pretty hard for him to cover a game in Minneapolis while he was in charge of supporting the media at a game in Grand Forks.

I haven't spent much time looking at the Board of Regents in Minnesota. I know that they have a little different process to select the Regents. They have a committee run by the legislature that takes applications and makes recommendations. The legislature then elects the Regents. They have one Regent from each Congressional district. They also have 4 at large Regents, one of them has to be a University student at the time they are elected. The Regents are elected to 6 year terms, 4 are elected every 2 years, and it looks like they can be re-elected. The President of the U of M is also the Chancellor for the system. The Board runs kind of similar to the ND SBoHE. They make policy decisions and work on the big picture issues. The MnSCU system is separate and a little different. They are run by a 15 member Board of Trustees appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. They are responsible for the 2 year colleges and the smaller 4 year schools like Bemidji, a total of 31 institutions. They also are supposed to concentrate on the big picture issues, and they hire the presidents of the various schools. They select the Chancellor. In many ways it looks like this system is a little closer to the ND SBoHE system. But on the surface it looks like both the MN Board of Regents and the MnSCU Board of Trustees operate quite similar to the ND SBoHE. If you look back, I believe that you will also see that the MN Board of Regents have had their fair share of people questioning them and the decisions they make. It probably comes with the position.

Interesting op-ed from the Grand Forks Herald, http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/259096/group/homepage/. It is in reaction to the bill passed by the North Dakota House that would put an amendment on the ballot to eliminate the SBoHE and replace it with a director appointed by the governor. This is Al Carlson's latest plan. Accreditation boards will not give accreditation to any institution that reports directly to the governor or anyone else in state government. They demand a buffer, a board like the SBoHE. All NDUS institutions would most likely lose accreditation if the latest House plan passes. So all NDUS institutions would probably lose all federal grants, and the students may lose their financial aid. Al Carlson's plan might not just be to destroy the State Board of Higher Education. It might be to destroy all of higher education in the state.

If you read the question that was being answered you would have seen that the question was for any year, not this year.

FCS shows all home UND hockey games. FCS has 3 different channels. All 3 are shown on Dish. I don't believe that all 3 FCS channels are shown on DirecTV. DirecTV picks and chooses which channels, and which games, it shows. Not all UND games have been on DirecTV.

Michael Russo is reporting that Chat Genoway is being traded to Washington for a seventh round draft pick in 2014.

IIRC, winning the 3rd place game at the WCHA Final 5 has been the difference between a team getting into the National tournament and sitting at home in the past. Any game against a TUC will definitely affect the Pairwise.
