  1. Well, I'm sure that you know much more about education than the people that run Harvard.
  2. Online students are using University resources. Many of the online students are also on-campus. Yes, online students should be counted as regular students based on the hours they are taking. I think funding should be allocated by the needs and resources required to provide those services, funding by enrollment alone doesn't make sense. It is cheaper to provide a class in history than a class in medicine. It is cheaper to provide a class in music than a class in engineering. Why would you base the funding on overall enrollment?
  3. They aren't going away, they are going to continue to grow in numbers. They provide a service to the consumer, a service that the consumer wants and needs. Any school that doesn't understand that, and doesn't provide the opportunities for their potential consumers isn't doing their job. It's funny that even schools like Harvard provide online classes, but NDSU supporters keep thinking that online classes and students shouldn't count. http://www.extension.harvard.edu/continuing-education/online-courses/default?gclid=CIrz6qjQibUCFYVFMgod4z0ADg.
  4. It must be difficult being stuck in the 1950's when the only choice was going to school on campus.
  5. Noodles is where Grizzly's used to be, between McDonalds and the old theater (now where Olive Garden is). Northside is usually good for breakfast. So is Gramma Butterwicks, and the Roadhouse Cafe out at the Simonson Travel Center.
  6. That topic has been discussed to death. Not all of us base our entire self-worth on whether the UND hockey team wins a national title, or base our entire evaluation of a season on whether they win the Frozen Four. The national title is the ultimate goal each season, but I would guess it is at the end of a chain of goals. If you grade a season pass/fail based on winning the national title, then UND would have about 55 failed seasons along with the 7 winning seasons. The topic I addressed was the talent level at BC compared to UND. For further comparison, there are several other schools that have more or similar numbers of players playing in the NHL compared to UND. Right now I believe that BU, Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin all have more, Wisconsin has approximately 17 right now. Michigan and Wisconsin had more than 20 last year. Denver, CC and Duluth aren't usually too far behind this group, and several other schools also have good numbers. UND has a lot of NHL caliber players going through the system, but they are not head and shoulders above everyone else. The talented players that pass through the schools I have listed are a large part of why these 10 schools are usually fighting for a place in the NCAA tournament almost every year. And those 10 schools have won 17 out of the last 18 NCAA tournaments (with CC being the only one of the 10 schools that hasn't won during that period). Edit: In case someone was wondering, Maine is the only school outside of these 10 that has won a national title during those 18 years. That was in 1999.
  7. So far BC has 11 in the NHL this year and UND has 8. Last year it was 22 for BC and 17 for UND. The year before that I believe it was 17 for BC and 16 for UND. I don't know where everyone gets this false impression that BC doesn't have NHL caliber players. BC has been successful for the last 10-12 years because they have had very talented players and a good coach. UND has been successful during that same time period for the same reasons. UND has been to 10 straight NCAA tournaments and 5 Frozen Fours out of those 10 tournament appearances. That isn't exactly the record of a mediocre program. The only real differences between the programs have been the National titles won by BC.
  8. Last week UND asked for permission from the SBoHE to demolish the old Ralph. The SBoHE gave that permission. This is the first step in putting up the new practice facility. I don't know if they have raised all of the money yet, but this is progress. The building should come down this summer.
  9. From November 14: If you can't contact after they sign a letter of intent, it should be pretty clear that you can't contact before that.
  10. Based on what I have read, as a booster for a school it is probably against NCAA rules to engage a recruit in any discussion about that school. This is from a UND brochure: Here is the link, http://www.undsports.com/downloads2/391792.pdf?ATCLID=3761808&SPSID=86452&SPID=6409&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500.
  11. According to the last item I quoted, which I have listed again below, he is only eligible to play this coming year if he was a full time student (minimum of 12 credits) at the community college. He had to complete that semester. And those 12 credits need to transfer to the 4 year school. If he was a part time student at the community college he would not be eligible to play this coming fall.
  12. The following are from the 2011-2012 NCAA rule book for Division I, I couldn't find this year's edition. If you follow the trail you will see that a student only gets 4 years of competition, and has 5 years to complete those 4 years (with some exceptions like military service and religious reasons). The 5 years start when the student starts their first semester at a collegiate institution, which is defined as accredited and authorized to grant at least a 1 year degree. A community college, if it is accredited, would qualify as this collegiate institution. The student, if a qualifier, needs to complete at least 1 semester before transferring to a new school, and must complete at least 12 credit hours with a 2.0 per semester to remain eligible. In other words, Robertson's 5 year clock started when he attended the first day of the semester at the community college. The only way he is eligible to play this coming fall is if he was a qualifier when entering college, and he completed at least 12 credits this past semester with at least a 2.0 grade average. This past football season was part of his 5 year window, so it was basically a redshirt year, and he has 4 1/2 years left to compete in football. That 1/2 year would be the current semester.
  13. I think the clock started when he enrolled at a community college. I'm pretty sure that you have 5 years to play 4 seasons from the time you start a school above high school. It doesn't matter whether he was associated with an athletic department or not. Therefore his semester at a community college would basically count as his redshirt year.
  14. I believe that Jack West should be up with the other 2. He led UND through a very successful period, a period when UND competed with schools from all over the country besides their NCC schedule. I think it was the first real successful period in UND football.
  15. From the early days you should probably consider Fritz Pollard as a player.
  16. You are basically correct. They get credit for a full or part day of school by having a specific percentage of students in class (I don't know if that is 50% or higher). Grand Forks can have the required number by having in town students show up even if none of the rural students make it to class. I know that 1:30 used to be the cut off to get credit for a full day, if they started on time. They are required by the state to have a specific number of days of class. Each school district has storm days put in their schedule, usually 2 or 3. If they don't use them during the winter they normally add them to the Easter break. If they use more than the allotted number of storm days they usually have to add days on Saturdays or at the end of the school year. That has happened a few times. The Governor has the ability to forgive days, and has done so during years with a lot of major storms.
  17. Very icy roads in the region. Many schools on the North Dakota side of the river have cancelled school for the day because of the icy roads and the storm moving in this afternoon. Many schools on the Minnesota side are running 2 hours late because of icy roads.
  18. You seem to miss a lot of words. I said I don't care ENOUGH to get pissed. And the part about understanding why doesn't make any sense. If you have an idiot alarm on your phone it must be going off constantly if it's anywhere near you.
  19. I think the AD would have a problem with that, especially since the trophy belongs to the school and not the coach.
  20. By the way, thank you for admitting that you are nothing but a troll. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/trolling
  21. Sorry, I don't care enough about what anonymous people on an internet chat site say to actually get pissed. Annoyed perhaps. But what I really have a problem understanding is why someone would take time out of their life to try and annoy a bunch of anonymous people on a sports fan web site for another school. I just think its sad. And 5 posts in a row?
  22. Just trying to understand why an NDSU fan would project having the football coach taking the national title trophy in a police car. You realize that I was replying to a stupid NDSU fan reaction to a joke, don't you? No facts were involved in either side of the conversation. It would help you not overreact to statements like this if you and your friends just avoided a UND FAN SITE!
  23. Do you really believe that a normal person would want their school's national title trophy even mentioned in the same breath as a cop car? His post was absolute stupidity. If you NDSU fans wouldn't keep trying to talk up how great you think your football team is on a UND sports web site, we wouldn't have to try to bring you back to earth. And another nice effort to change the subject, which is about more NDSU athletes in trouble with the law. You must be a proud alum.
  24. Bohl is so self-absorbed that he can't go anywhere without the trophy? Or is it just that NDSU cares only about winning football titles and not about the well-being of the student athletes in ANY of their programs?
  25. Just keep making stuff up to make yourself feel better. And on Christmas, quite a generous soul you must be. Shouldn't you be in bed waiting for Santa? Or have you been such a bad boy this year that you are only expecting a lump of coal? By the way, the North Dakota Legislature, the Attorney General and others seem to believe that forging petitions is a serious crime since it is already a Class A misdemeanor, and it may soon become a felony. It doesn't matter what Bison fans like you believe is important. Whether the issue had a chance to pass or not has nothing to do with it, it is still interfering with an election.
