  1. Atlanta must think this is a deep draft. They are really stock piling there picks.

    Und

Simplot it stinks. Which wsu are you from. Let me be the first to warn you, Sioux hockey is addicting........
  3. Dont get your expectations to high. We will have at least 8 freshmen in the lineup every night and teams that young usually wear down at the end of the season, like Wisconsin did last year. With that being said remember that in 1997, 2000 and 2001 a lot of people didn't expect much from the Sioux. Like someone said in an earlier post just get into the regionls because we host them. I like Fabian as Captain and Prpich and Stafford wearing the A's. I wouldn't mind Parise either, but I dont like goalies being captain or assistants. Lets just hope that after Greene signs, no one else goes too.
  4. RB says the same thing everytime one of his players leaves early. I can see his position, but don't understand why he publicly whines about it whenever one of his players makes an early jump? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  5. I am upset with the cheer team. They better up the GPA. They aren'tulling their weight. They are suppose to up the average, not lower it.
  6. and NFL teams have only 56 players with like 8 guys on there practice team. Why do D 1 schools need 63 scholarships.
  7. Minot will be for real, but if Willert (sp?) leaves that will be a BIG loss to try overcome. Who will be the best players in the state? I liked the Campbell (I know there was more than one, Im not sure which was which) from grafton. I would guess that the Campbell's are farmers and don't need jobs. That is probably part of the reason they turned down Warroad, the other part is probably because they are loyal. Just a guess, I dont know them personally.
  8. College players drafted in 2003 do not need to sign. Even with the new CBA, a team that drafts a player that is in or goes to the ncaa does not have to sign them during the 2 year period. If you go major junior and a team does not sign you in 2 years that team loses you rights. European players were except from this rule in the old CBA. With the new CBA they are currently making a new deal with the International Ice hockey federation. The Russians are fighting this.
  9. U of M is having problems recruiting 17 year olds. They cant get them into De Ja Vu. Gophers went after Finley hard and they have like 8 defensemen for next year and Lucia still tried to make room for Finley. I bet the Don would have trimmed a couple of players scholly's to get him there. Finley's dad played football at U of M. They probably thought that Finley would goto Minnesota for sure and when they found out that he was considering being a Sioux they tried harder to get him. And UND didn't offer Kessel anything.
  10. To bad Boll isn't going to Duluth next year. Him and Finley fought like 3 times last season. I would like to see Finley rip Paukovich's head off next year. Unfortunatley we never got to see Greene fight. I would bet a lot of money that we will see Finley fight. They got an early commitment from Krantz and he never really developed. He was a bad egg to start with. He was a great athlete a very good baseball player, but he had a bad attitude.
  11. I would have took Zajac at #5 over Wheeler anyday. Maybe thats why the Devils have won the cup 3 times in the last 10 years and Phoenix is Phoenix.

    Hakstol pub

Hak is first class all the way. He is a great guy and great person. That is the kind of face you want on your program. Guys like Hak and Dale Lennon are special people and they will both be legends in the future.
  13. Some one should post this site on the hockey forums site. More people will see it.
  14. Michael Forney lead the Select 17 festival is scoring. Hopefully UND will get this kid. Anyone have any inside info?
  15. That is a great question. If in 2004 UND was inelligible for the playoffs for some reason, and they had the same team would you have went to the games and followed the season. Yes, that season and the years in 1998 and 1999 were some of the funnest season to follow in the history of UND hockey. I guess when we hammered Denver 3 times that year it hurt us. Psychologically. No matter what a Coach or captain says its in your head that your gonna win and you dont mentally prepare like you should. As you can probably tell I am still upset about the loss to Denver in 2004. 1999 UND lost only twice in WCHA season. It shows that in one game anything can happen and the best team doesn't always win. Thats one reason why the pro's play a series but hats a topic for another day. I loved watching our teams blow out opponents, those were great seasons. One more question, Is it October yet?
  16. Another contribution Zack will make to the program. New Jersey will need one less center, meaning Zajac can stay at UND another year or two. Mafia man, I get your point, I guess I am responding to more then just your posts, but also other posts ive read and to people you talk to threw out the hockey season.
  17. One positive is that Edmonton will not have an AHL team next year. They are suspending operations of their AHL team for one year. But other then that it doesn't look good. I bet there is a 90% chance that Greene leaves. Greene will be a huge loss. Like someone said earlier UND will only have one (Smaby) Dman back with experience. ouch I think Edmonton expects him to be in the NHL this year. It would be great to have him back.
  18. Sorry, my buddy spells it that way.
  19. Would we have the Shattuck pipeline if Zack would have went to Minnesota? Remember his brother lead us to a national title game? I am not trying to argue, but Zack helped the program in other ways then his being here for 2 years. He will also be dedicated to the Sioux hockey family for a lifetime like most of the other alumni. I dont know what kind of person Kessel is. But I bet that in 5 years a guy like Thomas Vanek will lose touch with U of M. Zack seems like most of our alumni that will do anything for the program. Weather its finacial donations or donating Jerseys and other things. Playing in the Siouxperswing. Belfour was only here one year and he was the talk of the town in Columbus. Ed gave the school a lot of publicity in Canada. Look at the 99 stanley cup playoffs, Then he brought the cup back. Zack is the same as our most the guys who come here. I think that helps for recruiting. My point is that guys like Zack help the program in other ways. There dedication is here for a lifetime. Maybe Zack will have a son and send him here in the future. We have 2 sons of former players and one nephew coming this year. Some players are so greedy they spend there time to get to the next level and they leave and you never here from them again. Is that good for the program.
  20. So if Zajac leads UND to a National title does that mean he is better than Parise? Greg Johnson never won anything, does that mean his career at UND was worthless. There was a lot of great gopher players in the 80's and 90's that never won a title(Bonnin, Olimb, Stauber, Crowley) . The point I am getting at is today in sports most fans are not satisfied unless there team wins the big one. Yeah I always want the Sioux to win, but you cant win it every year. It seems like both Sioux and gophers fans just want to fast forward to the playoffs to see who wins it all (those are the bandwagon jumpers who aren't there when the team is losing). Does anybody just enjoy watching the games any more? The WCHA is going threw a period now like it did in the 70's and early 80's when it just dominated college hockey. As fans we should all enjoy it. In 2004 UND won the League, Minnesota won the Final 5, Duluth went to the Frozen four and Denver (although they really had no business being there) won it all. This last season we all know that 4 wcha teams made it to the Frozen Four and we got another chance to kick Minnesota's ass. I cant wait for next year, I want UND to win it all, but at the same time you get to watch players like Sterling, Sertich, Gautier, Carle, Potulny, Irmen, and all the incredible freshmen coming in. It is probably one of the best class of freshmen the WCHA has ever had. Some of these guys will never play a game in the NHL, but they are more exciting to watch anyday. I am a Sioux fan 1st, my second favorite team is the one playing against the gophers and my third favorite is the rest.
  21. I cant wait to see how Sam Gagner does in the USHL. He is the son of fromer North Star Dave Gagner. His name (Sam Gagner) keeps coming up everywhere in different articles I have read. He is only an "89", but it sound like he is a great player. He is probably a player that our favorite college team would like to get. I suppose he will be one of them kids you have to fight the Major Junior teams for.
  22. I think I heard that Mosey is going to the NDTP.
  23. Most the USHL teams have posted there 25 player roster so far. They do cut down again to 23 players. Here is a list of local players and others of interest. Tri City has 3 kids of interest Mario Lamoureux(GF), Matt Ambroz(New Prague) and Jordan Willert(Minot). Also that Jaroslav Markovic from Slovakia who played in the world junior tourney last year. Sioux City has Sam Gagner and Brendon Smith. Their fathers both played for the North Stars. Lincoln has Dowzak(FF), Hardwick(Warroad) , Vandedelde(Moorhead). Indiana Has Drew Fisher(Moorhead/I Falls), Eric Olimb(Warroad), Jay Clark(LOW). Green bay has a kid named Greg Beller from LOW. He was the most underated hockey player in the state of Minnesota last year. I bet he ends up in the WCHA. Sioux Falls has a lot of Locals. Josh Brodeen(warroad) Micheal Forney(TRF) Chris Peluso(Wadena) Channing Boe(Bemidji) Nick Duetz(Moorhead) As of now they have Joe Finley(Edina). And Chris Berenger, senior smokes son(twins pitcher). Omaha has of course Marto (GF) and another kid named Tony Lucia (Wayzata) ( I bet he would love to play for the Sioux) yes he is Dons son. Omaha has 2 other kids of interest. Brett Bruneteau is a dominant player from Shattuck, I think he is only 15. Nick Petrecki sounds like he is stud player according to an article on inside college hockey. This kid may go major junior. Other teams have not listed their roster. I am not saying that UND should recruit any of these kids, I was just listing locals and other kids you here a lot about.
  24. Sorry, I made a mistake. I fixed it.
