  1. It should also be pointed out (to the pollyanna apologists for the BBall program) that 15 years ago, people would have laughed if you said Mary and Valley City State could hang with UND in a game. This really changed towards the end of the Glas years. Jones has done nothing to improve this. True UND was DII just last year, but they were a big DII with a nice facility. The current product is horrible. The Bemidji State hockey example is laughable too. Bemidji State is a team that could play ANY DI hockey program in the nation, and hang with them (not win, but be in the game). The same can't be said for teams like Mary or Valley City if they played a Big Ten team, etc.
  2. I agree. People are sure getting desperate when a win like this gets them excited. Set your standards a little higher people. Sioux basketball fans are excited about a narrow win over Univ of Mary. Bison fans get excited about wins over teams like Marquette and Wisconsin.
  3. In all seriousness, if the Sioux only split next weekend, they are back to square one. Need lots of sweeps from here on out, tonight was a good start though.
  4. Depends on, does Ditka get a knife?
  5. North Dakota just became a safer place.
  6. Also, it is fashionable these days to say, "Everyone hates the US because of their sense of entitlement". This applies to "friendly" countries like Canada and also not so friendly countries in the middle east. However, these people just love to hate and bash the US because of envy. They can never sight specific examples, they are just followers who pile onto the US just for the sake of piling on. I'll stop there since it is a hockey forum. But the despicable behavior by the Canadian fans during the tourney brought this issue to light.
  7. 1) Part of the issue to might be the fact that a very, very small percentage of the US actually cares about hockey (I wish it was more). The entire country of Canada cares about hockey. The best athletes in Canada almost automatically play hockey. The same can't be said for the US. Criticizing the US hockey program is the same as the US criticizing Canada for their football or basketball program. Yeah those programs aren't any good in Canada, but it is because by and large the majority of the people don't care about them. 2) Regarding your statement about Americans sense of entitlement being disgusting to many Canadians. Last I checked, the US was not the country that felt "entitled" to a socialistic national health care program. Most Americans have to prove their "merit" and go out and get a job that provides such benefits. 3) If Canada is so great, why are most of the NHL teams in the US?
  8. Must be a down year in the DAC.
  9. After watching the USA play against the more physical Canada team, I now know what it is like to be a Gopher fan watching a Gopher/Sioux game.
  10. I bet Minot would be willing to count this game after seeing the impressive Sioux effort against Valley city.
  11. Champps or similar type sports bar would be great. Isn't the building a little small for a Champps though?
  12. Lamoreux MUST BE IN THE LINEUP EVERY GAME!!!! Even though he is a local boy, I'm guessing Redwing would agree.
  13. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I remember Coach Glas getting ripped (rightfully so) for losing to teams like Minot State. That was several years ago. I suppose it is progress now that the Sioux can at least squeak by the Valley City States and University of Mary's the world rather than losing.
  14. Sioux are a weak team no matter which goalie starts. Since the year looks like it will be ending early, I have no problem with BE getting all the starts to develop him. There's no reason to develop Walski by giving him starts when he will be gone next year and this year is shot.
  15. Jason Blake and Jeff Panzer were elite college players. The Sioux don't have that this year. Gregoire might turn into that guy, but he ain't there now.
  16. Miller has not shown anything in his 4 years at UND that would indicate he can be a spark plug to a line. Leave Hextal where he is at, the guy has a knack for scoring, which is more than I can say for 3/4 of this team.
  17. I would love to hear the logic of sitting Lamoreux tonite. The guy needs to be in every night. I liked Malone last year, but he is one of those guys that doesn't seem like he improved at all from his Fresh to Soph year. Also gotta love Finehage sitting rather than Lapoint, I just don't get it. Lapoint just strikes me as a guy that probably should have played basketball, but showed up on the wrong day and they threw him a hockey jersey. For those waiting for the traditional Christmas turnaround again this year, things will be different because this year there is no Parise/Toews/Oshie type talent to lead the way. In the past, the Sioux could always throw together the one "super line" that could score 2 to 3 goals every night. That doesn't exist this year. Next year it may exist when you start talking Gregoire/Hextall/etc, but it doesn't exist this year.
  18. Agree 100%. It's hard to argue too much when a team wins 7-3, but Blood needs to be playing over Lapoint. Even though Finehage looked a little slow at times, I think he needs to play in front of Lapoint too. Finehage showed more offense in the 2nd period when he leaped up into the play to intercept a pass and get a good shot on goal, then Lapoint has shown in two years. Lamoreux needs to be in the lineup every night too. Even though Redwing probably doesn't like him because he's a local boy, his gritty play has earned him a spot.
  19. Hak may have recruited players under the Blais regime, but I wonder who told Hak where to go, who to look at, and I especially wonder who had final say on signing players. Hmmmmmm, I'll take who is Dean Blais for $500 Alex.
  20. This team is close to something, but I don't know if playing well is what they're close to.
  21. Agree that Junior class isn't bad, but it isn't great either. You have a Senior and Junior class that are solid, but not spectacular, then you have a Sophmore class that hasn't shown up this year, and a Freshman class that shows promise, but they are still way too young to be counted on to pick up the slack from the other three classes.
  22. I know one person that wouldn't want to see Hak leave....Jerry York. Second point, UND is not that young this year. Third point, yes the Sioux "young" players will improve as the year goes along, but so will the opposition team players too. This is big time DI hockey not park board, if a current player or potential recruit can't take a few posts from a message board, then they shouldn't be on the team. Maybe they should be more worried about the product they are putting on the ice rather than what a few rubes are posting on siouxsports.com
  23. I would agree with that. I just don't want to see Miller taking up a top forward spot or a forward spot on the power play. Splitting with Martens is about where Miller should be. I also would like to see Lamoreux and Davidson in the lineup at least tomorrow night. Perhaps they will stand up for their teammates that take cheap shots.
