  1. It must have been Chay Genoway's fault. The Finley apologists here constantly blamed Genoway for all of Finley on ice miscues during his career, so maybe the off ice stuff is his fault too?
  2. Tribal politics in general are a joke. They make Washington DC politics look like a professional operation. On reservations, it is not uncommon to have public officials kicked out of office with little or no warning at impromptu meetings. The tribal court system is a bigger joke as many of the important positions, including Chief judges, are occupied by people that don't even have law degrees. It's like going into a 3rd world country and everyone but the people that live on the reservation are to blame (heavy sarcasm). This nickname sham is the only way that people living on the reservation can get back at "those that have wronged them for many years". The sad thing is, nationwide, a relatively small amount of people know about the Sioux. Once the nickname leaves, 20 years from now, no one outside of Grand Forks will know about the Sioux people.
  3. No, the fact that Teeder Wynne should have won it that year diminishes Bonin's Hobey.
  4. Let's be honest here, this doesn't diminish Duncan's Hobey in any way. In fact, it is rather common for the Hobey Baker award winner to not necessarily be a hot NHL prospect. It is almost like the Heisman Award in that sense. It is meant to be the best college player, not the best pro prospect. I think Duncan was realistic about his chances of playing in the NHL, at least short term. That probably played a big role in his staying all 4 years. I wish the Sioux could land more players like him that have really good skill levels, but not necessarily the "jump after 1 or 2 years" skill levels.
  5. Also I heard they will have game worn Finley jerseys, just like new as they have no scuff marks from checks.
  6. After seeing that, I guess I'm now glad that we didn't see Finley fight while at UND. I knew there was a reason for his always leaving the tough guy role to Rylan Kaip. Right now the Washington GM is thinking, jeez, I got myself a 6'7" 250 lb defenseman that you need a sundial to time his speed, an hourglass to time his windup on his slapshot, and to top it all off, the guy can't fight.
  7. In all fairness to Grand Forks, when a crest comes in 5 feet above the prediction, there's not much you can do. If Fargo would have come in 5 feet higher than predicted this year, Mayor Denny wouldn't look like such a know it all. In 1997, I don't think Grand Forks could have built their main line dikes high enough (Weren't they 49-50 ft with 2 ft of "freeboard"). Add to that some of the crappy concrete dikes like in Lincoln Park area (Which I think was the first area to start leaking) and the front line dikes were just not good enough. However, Grand Forks does deserve full blame in 1997 for not having a backup plan/contingency dikes.
  8. Wasn't the other incident an on-campus incident? This was an off-campus incident. I wonder if that is the reason for a different reaction. Anyways, with this type of offense, this kid will never fly for the military/commercial purposes, unless he gets the same lawyers Stroup had to make it go bye bye.
  9. Finley n. A large, immobile object. Known for never being within 10 feet of Hockey East players when crucial goals scored Syn. = Glacier, pylon, Kaulker
  10. Not getting drafted by the Wild was the best thing that could have ever happened to Parise. The Wild would have snuffed out his offensive game, just like they have done to every other player that comes through there. Wild organization = one big joke. The fans that still go to their games despite front office ineptitude = bigger jokes. I've heard even with losing Gaborik after the year, the Wild are pretty flush up against the cap.
  11. When Minnesota finally dumped Woog, I seem to recall it got them two National Championships very soon after. Or maybe my history is a little fuzzy there.
  12. How did Finley get a separated shoulder? Wouldn't that have required him making physical contact at some point in time? To make things worse, word is Finley has a sprained neck now too after watching the UNH player blow past him in the OT.
  13. Joe Finley with the exclamation point on a bust of a career. I will miss his glacier-like speed everytime we lose to a Hockey East team in the National tournament. I will miss not having a 6'7" 250lb guy that never once dropped his gloves in 4 years at UND. I will miss hearing from all of his apologists that think he actually turned away good pro offers to come back to UND. He is Hal Gill minus some speed and minus a lot of toughness. Have fun in the AHL.
  14. The matchup against UNH (University of No Hardware), does not scare me at all. BU on the other hand will be very, very tough.
  15. So to keep the Gophers out, we want Princeton to do good? What other teams do we need to cheer for tomorrow?
  16. As long as this team doesn't have to play BC, yes, number 8 is definitely possible. However, my biggest concern is getting stuck in the MPLS regional with the Gophers. The Sioux have had a nice run against the Gophers in meaningful games. However, streaks don't last forever.
  17. So can one of the PWR experts answer me this, would the Gophers still be in the National tournament if let's say UMD finds away to steal the autobid by winning the Final 5? In that scenario, UND, Denver, and UMD would go. Or would the NCAA let 4 teams in from WCHA?
  18. Congrats NDSU, at least one college in North Dakota has a legit basketball team.
  19. I still don't believe it was peanut butter. I mean come on, skates...check, stick....check, pads....check, peanut butter?
  20. I don't know which is a worse thought, what you are suggesting, or the idea of a bunch of high school hockey players running around slapping peanut butter on each other in the shower. Gross.
  21. If the Gophers win their series against SCSU, even if it goes 3 games, they will be in the big dance regardless of their showing at the Final 5. NCAA stands to lose to much money if they can't figure out a way to get them in. Is it right? No. Will it happen? Definitely. Unfortunately, when is the last time that SCSU won a meaningful game? Never. So I don't expect them to put up much of fight against MN.
  22. Peanut butter on a shower wall could be fixed in about 5 minutes with a hose. REA would not be making an issue of it unless there is more to it. We may or may not find out what the "more to it" actually is. Maybe if the coach instilled more discipline Fargo South wouldn't have had yet another year of supposedly top level talent finishing 4th in the state.
