  1. Yep, I agree. I've said it before, I will take a National title every five or six years rather than being in the Frozen Four every year and choking.
  2. This Sioux team wants nothing to do with having to play Denver in a meaningful game.
  3. It's a race between the Gophers and Sioux to see who can get crappy the fastest, in order to get their current coach fired, and to pave the way to bring in Dean Blais, and eventually, a championship. I have full faith in our boys that they can get the job done before the Gophs.
  4. Throw him in the slammer to do hard time for five years. I believe that people deserve second chances, but this is ridiculous. He is making a mockery out of the criminal justice system. Is it gonna take him killing someone on the road after he has taken illegal drugs to get him put away? Why does someone always have to get hurt first before the courts will take real action?
  5. The only transition going on here is the Sioux men's team going from being a semi-competitve D2 team and transitioning into an absolute embarassment to UND. 45 points in an entire game against a horrible team? Come on. I can almost assure you there are intermural teams at UND that could put up 40 points in a game like this.
  6. I agree with you. Not sure if the results would be different though as our football team can't beat NAIA teams either at the moment.
  7. I missed the game, but noticed that UND had 20 points at the half. Was an extra point blocked?
  8. No, people aren't blaming the basketball team for losing the nickname. However, you and I both know that the reason the process is getting pushed along quicker than necessary is to accommodate the basketball teams finding a conference. Don't act like that isn't the driving factor here. Even when the hockey team sucked, and it did for awhile there, it was always entertaining. The real poopy years still had guys like Russ Romaniuk, Dixon Ward, Greg Johnson, etc that would light up the scoreboard. Unfortunately, those teams also couldn't stop teams from scoring.
  9. They might not play us as much even if we change the nickname. Minnesota isn't known for loading up on their non-conference schedule.
  10. Yep, I'm so glad that one of the biggest arguments for changing the Sioux name early is to "get our basketball teams into the Summitt". Sure makes sense to push a lousy team, into a lousy conference, at the sacrifice of the Sioux Men's Hockey Team.
  11. Don't ask, don't tell. I think many of those teams would be above UND.
  12. Well, I suppose since the game is televised, attendance might even be lower than normal. The game should carry a "R" rating because the carnage will not be appropriate for younger viewers.
  13. It's not necessarily a poor comparison because there is no precedent for a more accurate one. For example, North Carolina and Duke have never left the ACC and left Maryland all alone in basketball. Ohio State and Michigan have never left the Big Ten in football and left Michigan State alone. The closest comparison would be the SEC when it split into East/West for football. However, both of those subconferences are still loaded.
  14. Last time I checked, a school like Gonzaga was never in a conference with the big boys, and then left out in the cold when a new conference was created. With a BTHC, every league game would be a rivalry. I'm not saying that UND would have to close the doors to REA and disband the hockey team, but think about it, what looks more appealing 1) playing games against Michigan, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Wisconsin or 2) Mankato State, Nebraska Omaha, St. Cloud, and Bemidji. Be truthful with yourself and don't look at it through green tinted glasses before answering.
  15. People are naive and blind if they don't think BTHC would hurt UND. UND would lose all those games against Wisc and Minnesota. The best UND could hope for is becoming a team like Gonzaga is to college basketball. Play some big boys (usually on the road), beat up on a weak conference schedule, and get beat out in the early rounds of the national tourney.
  16. Don't let RedWing hear you say that. He will start into a rambling dissertation about how now one knows what they are talking about and probably figure out a way to mention how Sioux fans threw Lee under the bus too when he was here. If VV is hurt, then he needs to sit. His play on the ice so far has been weak to say the least. I respect the fact that he is trying, but it just ain't working right now.
  17. I hope last year wasn't a fluke for Eids. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be the first time UND had a goalie come in like a ball of fire and then fizzle out (Siembida, Schweitzer, even Kollar)
  18. The whole point of getting these deferred impositions is that a person still is punished, but the final conviction won't be on their permanent record (i.e. Joe Landlord/Future Employer can't go do a court check and find the offense). Otherwise, why hire an attorney to get this type of deal if its still gonna appear on a public court record search???
  19. Well, if you are basing it off the statewide court checks that are available for both states, maybe. But those checks are very flawed. The info on those sites is only as good as each reporting county. In other words, if a county isn't the best at uploading the info, you get garbage in garbage out. Also, as I am sure you are very aware, the court checks don't take into account deferred imposition type situations. You can do just about anything wrong these days, get an attorney to pull some strings, do a little community service, and bam, the charge disappears off your court record in one or two years. Not saying that this is the case in this particular situation though.
  20. You keep throwing it out there, and it will become a self fulfilling prophecy. I guess it wouldn't be a Sioux hockey season without Redwing getting hypersensitive about criticism of one of the players. Fienhage is in a much different situation from Finley. 1) Finley played a lot right away, where Fien has not been given much of a chance as of yet 2) Finley was highly drafted (hence whether fair or not, more is expected of him) 3) Finley didn't seem any better as a senior than he did early on. Guys like Greene, Smaby, etc all improved noticeably as they went, Finley did not. Fienhage still has alot of time to prove himself.
  21. And at defense, from Edina MN......NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Joe Gleason.....Whew, scared me for a second there. Also, nice to see a number 2 hit someone and go towards a scrum instead of backing away. I think it is much too early to judge Fineaghe, he played very very little last year so this might as well be his Freshman yr. Highlight of the night, Lapoint playing period. I am not the biggest Lapoint fan, but after the ugly injury he suffered last year, him being ready for the season opener is amazing.
  22. And SMU was last a relevant team when? That was a very poor example. Like I said, SFA may be a very good DIAA team, perhaps even top 5 type material, that still does not excuse the lopsided nature of the game on Sat.
  23. Transition years or not, you can't let a DIAA school beat you like this. UND during most of their better DII years would not have been beat like this. Yes SFA is good, but I don't recall them winning the DIAA title every year or anything like that. Hopefully things get righted next week against USD.
  24. A 6'7" 250lb defensman that was drafted quite high is asked to switch to forward within his first few games as a pro? This doesn't sound good at all. I hope it works but he was already way to slow to play defense, I don't see how this will make things any better. If the Caps are looking for a guy that is never afraid to throw down (and actually would win some fights) they should sign Rylan Kaip. That guy had heart.
