  1. It can definitely be hard to tell. I remember being less than impressed when I saw Marto play in the USHL. He ended up being a fantastic college D-man who excelled at defending 2 on 1s.
  2. Thankfully, Pride is actually out the window. That would have been even worse than sundogs!
  3. Watching Toews give the cup over to Timonen was amazing. What a special moment for that guy. Stuff like that is what sports are all about.
  4. I don't really want to cheer for Hawks, but I could do it. Same goes for Sundogs. But I gag every time I think of cheering for the North Stars. Loved the pro team, love the name in general, but it's the MINNESOTA (not north dakota) state nickname. I don't understand why it's even in contention.
  5. Part of me wonders if losing these recruits is a consequence of how Red handled himself earlier this year with early departures.
  6. Brett played two full seasons and left because he graduated. He transferred to Vermont for a graduate program. I want to say it was law school, but I may be confusing him with Brad. If I remember correctly, Fienhage played two full seasons as well. Tambo played a semester.
  7. Oh right, it's your conference schedule that's packed full of cupcakes.
  8. Is there a reason Brad's blog is no longer showing on the homepage? I figured it was because he didn't have any recent updates, but he had one today, and it's still just Goon's stuff.
  9. You have to wonder if they each took the job hoping they'd get a crack at the head coach position next year.
  10. I vaguely remember reading an article where Commodore blasted Babcock for some of the same things. I like Commie, but maybe the coach isn't always the issue...
  11. Nothing against Jackson, but I would think the Flyers would be nudging Hakstol toward assistant coaches with NHL experience.
  12. Interesting idea, but it's been fairly common lately that the national champion doesn't even make the NCAA tournament the following year.
  13. To make it to the regional in Grand Rapids, I rearranged my work schedule (not an easy task), drove two and a half hours to the airport, took two flights totaling roughly 5 hours, and drove another three hours...each way. Big deal. It's not about whether it's convenient for us fans to get there (it's usually not). It's about these young men deserving to play in arenas packed with fans. It's about them being able to finish their college seasons/careers with people who share the passion for the sport, not in front of apathetic empty seats. The championship game in Boston was the best non-Sioux game I've ever attended. And while some part of that can be attributed to the back-and-forth play on the ice and a botched save by Mr. Matt O'Connor, most of that is because of the absolutely electric atmosphere that was inside the building. Atmosphere in college sports is everything.
  14. I'll try to find the link, but right after his signing, there was actually a really good article in the NY Times about Matt O'Connor. Matt said his phone was lighting up with phone calls/texts/emails from opposing coaches, NHL goalies, former BU goalies, etc with encouragement.
  15. The problem with that attendance standard for regionals is that it is so dependent on a local school making it. If Notre Dame makes the tournament, South Bend meets the attendance requirement. If UND doesn't, Fargo doesn't do near as well.
  16. I feel like in years past, we often hear of players committing to staying before now, but don't usually hear of players leaving until after the semester. I consider the lack of positive announcements to be a bit worrisome.
  17. The championship game was on a Sunday afternoon here, putting it at about 4am Monday in Korea. That may have played a factor haha
  18. I guess it's the big ones that get that big of a viewership. The average daily wcs game is like 25-30k.
  19. Yep. I used to mock gamers until I started dating one haha (and even then mocked it for the first month or two). I haven't watched enough StarCraft to fully understand it, but I actually really enjoyed watching some of the professional League of Legends games. I was surprised to discover that there's fantasy leagues for the LoL season just like for hockey, football, etc.
  20. My boyfriend is a gamer and watches online streams. When you log into a stream, the website generally says how many viewers are watching at that given moment. When the Starcraft world championship was played a couple weeks ago, there were 300,00 people already watching when we logged in. I can't remember the specific number, but I remember being surprised by how huge it was.
  21. Haha people might want to re-pick considering we just got a new recruit schedule to come in this fall!
  22. Brock with 2 goals in his first playoff game, Toews with one, and now Stafford with one. Former Sioux lighting up the playoffs!
