It was pretty clear to the refs/reply officials and Seemed clear to me. Elbow was clearly down and ball wasn’t coming out. I guess I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. Doesn’t matter.

No you couldn’t. All of the negative comments about everything being the coaches fault make us look stupid. They are from the same suspects who have seem to show little insight as to what is happening on the field and those comments derail in-game discussion. Our kids got outplayed. We missed tackles and missed assignments. When you are dominated like this the responsibility is shared by players and coaches but there will be no coaching changes during the season. It’s pretty clear we are overmatched and in addition, the Bison are playing well and we aren’t.

It was the correct call. No fumble.
-
But you rank them on this years performance. Different than evaluating a team/program. Prior history doesn’t get you wins or cause losses this year.
-
Yeah, this is a whole different level. I’ve noticed when they drive the lane and go up with a shot, they almost always use the backboard. We seem to toss up a weak floater or bounce it off the rim. We certainly aren’t shooting with any confidence. Finally got a 3
-
I’m not sure that we have set a screen to get a guy an open look. If we can’t make free throws on our home court it often means we don’t have confident shooters.

You mentioned “competing with the Ralph”. My comments were related to attendance. There are many fans who attend hockey and FB as well as MBB and WBB. Fans want to be associated with success.
-
Student section wasn’t full at hockey last night. Lots of empty seats through out the arena. Cold weather, very limited tailgating, and the distance to the Alerus from campus hurt student attendance. Travel issues from the west also hurt overall attendance. Hard to get that bandwagon warmed up enough to compensate. If we can get into the playoffs and a home game, we need to make sure students have easy access to buses to and from game, a free student parking area and some sort of organized pregame or postgame activities.

You are correct about the importance of winning. I don’t believe we competing with hockey or the Ralph. They are both an important part of UND and UND athletics. The hockey difference in addition to solid outside financial support, is that many of our hockey fans are otherwise NDSU fans and Hockey has had a long successful run. FB has been inconsistent especially through the slow transition. FB benefits from successful hockey, MBB, WBB, and VB as does the University. Anything bringing positive attention to UND will benefit the athletic programs.

I’m not leading anyone here. I’m not sure I know who is who on this site. I’m not bashing social media, but it isn’t the vehicle to affect change in our athletic programs. Also, I have no issues with your opinions or others. They are as valid as mine. But I would hope you understand my opinions and the opinions of others are as valid as yours. You are correct in that we all want Championships. We may disagree on the path to get there and clearly some of us get tired of the repeated, almost constant criticism of coaches for anything that doesn’t go well. I happen to fail to see the purpose especially when we have been playing better and making progress. My opinion is we assess the need for change at the end of each season including evaluating coaches. Every fan base has fans similar to ours. But give some thought to the criticisms of those who have a more positive opinion of where we are and where we are going and then the response when those critics are challenged. You and most here are much more important to our University and athletic teams because odds are that you all will likely be around longer than I.

I believe this last sentence was cut and pasted from the dictionary under irony: example of.

Kostich being Kostich?

You do realize that we don’t set expectations or anything else on social media (or maybe you never played). Most people who post here are fans and realize that the team culture, goals and expectations aren’t influenced by those posting on SS.com. or any other social media sites. Maybe that’s why you seem to get frustrated when others don’t agree with you.

That isn’t how one determines talent. That is how most fans and media types evaluate talent. Waletzko had no other offers. The Hegg kid from NDSU was a walk on. Belquist is an FBS talent. If we evaluated talent by your method these guys would have been at Concordia or MSUM. We have a lot of talented kids on this team. The fact is every team we play has talented kids. Some more than others. There isn’t a cupcake on the schedule this year.

Don’t think the folks trying to move things forward is “ all beer, skittles and sunshine”. Far from it. Some understand what it takes to turn programs around, resurrect businesses, and even how we can lose our edge. Some, and I am one of them, see no purpose in calling for coaching change publicly until the change is going to be made. Public calls for coaching change usually has an adverse effect on recruiting and creates negative vibes on the team and staff. We all have the same goal and that is championship FB as well as tourney appearances and conference championships in all sports. Obviously there are those who feel otherwise. Bringing back other sports isn’t fiscally feasible without a designated sugar daddy right now, but it would be a mistake not to listen to all stakeholders to see what they bring to the table. I think we will see improvement in MBB, WBB this year. We have made big strides in VB. We seem to be making strides in FB but need to get better each week. We have hockey where it needs to be financially. Now we need to get our other sports there too. It isn’t easy.

I will let you and the other folks who are beating this to death on some facts. First of all, you all have some valid points and valid concerns. Why you all seem to have a need to continue to throw these comments into most every thread says more about the people posting than it does about the coaches and programs. Positive change not only in sports but in successful organizations is not driven by those whose primary contributions are firing someone and complaining. There are a number of people working to move our programs forward but that group doesn’t include those with this attitude and it won’t. It is complicated because the discussions include not only FB but other sports and always what is best for UND and how it can be done successfully and to be able to sustain that success over time. It includes some who also want to bring back swimming, women’s hockey, baseball and so it’s complicated. So I guess if it makes you folks feel better, feel free to continue to the same negative rhetoric. The difference makers have no time for that nonsense, because seldom, if ever, is there anything that would contribute to making the necessary positive change to move all programs forward. Some of us had to learn that by experience and regret the time wasted with the shortsighted negative thinking.

Yes I was. If I buy drinks they let me tag along. The nursing home back home doesn’t know I’m not there yet. I left my teddy bears and a box of depends under the covers and put a sign on the door that I have monkey pox. They won’t check til Mon AM.

Lots of green in Vegas tonight.

I don’t believe you can assume that. How would we know what they did in practice. Our players made mistakes would be more likely. We run that play often enough and we likely ran it against the scout team but I don’t know that. Doesn’t matter. Kids need to prepare for next week and will need to play well to win
-
I think you are making an assumption. How can you say a team that runs the bubble screen virtually every game doesn’t practice the play. We missed the block and Tom shouldn’t have thrown the ball. Defenses try to get to the receiver whenever they think the play is called with that formation. The defender jumped the play no one blocked him. I’m not sure how you get a coaching error out of that. Good DBs are usually trying to get an edge and jump a route.
-
Good points. I didn’t mention anyone person, I said some people. Nothing wrong with criticizing. I just strongly disagree that those who find positives are part of the so called problem.
-
We have no idea what happened in the locker room at half time. None of the players listen to a coaches halftime interview. Most of the halftime is spent with position coaches, then OC or DC and lastly head coach. Virtually the entire time spent making corrections, and adjustments. Bubba can get pretty emotional and he can get his message across. He doesn’t put on a show for fans or media. Having said that I have no idea what was said at half time.

First of all there is no such thing as moral victories. What fans opinions are on this medium doesn’t reflect where the program is going. Too many fans can’t seem to understand that there are a lot of UND fans who look for positives and want to build on that. There seem to be a number of fans who look for the negatives and their only solution is to fire people (coaches, AD, medical staff Kauk etc). Most of us fans have little depth of knowledge of even some of the basic fundamentals of the X’s and O’s. I do know that fans who are proud of the effort and are looking for positives to build on are not part of the problem and the fact they take that approach does not mean they are satisfied with anything less than championship results. I would also suggest those who only focus on the negatives are not part of the solution. We would all like to move this and all of our programs forward overnight. In the meantime there is no reason to turn on each other. I saw a relatively young FB team take on one of the top FCS teams in the country yesterday and give them all they could handle. A pick 6, a key fumble, 5 missed tackles on a punt return, and poor coverage on an on side kick were 4 plays that made the difference in my mind. We may or may not make the playoffs this year. I think we need to run the table. Their isn’t a weak sister on the schedule. These games will be dog fights. Having said that I think this staff has slowly improved our depth and talent. I don’t like every call but I’m not at practice and I don’t review film. Even if I did we have guys on this staff who do that and do that better than I. The people who will make the decisions regarding staff are not posting on this medium. Just my opinion. Great effort yesterday, no quite good enough. Move on and get better.

I’ve learned long ago that preseason polls aren’t worth fussing over. Who cares what the pollsters think. What matters of course is what each team’s players and coaches think and then what they do to attain whatever goals they have set for themselves. I doubt we will finish last.

Sather isn’t going anywhere. He is bringing together key pieces to the puzzle. Eaglestaff and Omot are special. Brooks is Kansas Mr. Basketball. If these guys can jell with the returning guys this team will be a lot better. It’s a work in progress. The transfer portal threatens all mid majors but if we can add some size with athletic ability and hang on to these freshman, I would bet UND can push for a conference title in a year or two. Sather has done a good job but slowed by outgoing transfers.
