I don’t (nor have I ever) liked the contract that gives REA any control over anything not directly related to REA revenues or the Engelstad donations. However donors often tie strings to their donations. The recipient needs to know where to draw the line. UND drew the line with Sanford and turned down a $10,000,000 initial donation. Sanford wanted exclusive sports med rights. Frankly, I don’t know if there were any other strings but the parties had a tentative agreement. I don’t know the details of the issues with the Engelstads and UND but I wasn’t aware of “corruption”. If they negotiated and got a legal contract, then I don’t believe there is evidence of corruption but that’s my opinion. I don’t know all if the facts. I do know that Ralph and his foundation has been extremely generous to multiple organizations and causes including UND.

The case I referred to was money from a private donor. Certainly public sentiment is a big issue with tax dollars. In Minnesota politicians will be falling all over themselves to find ways to spend the tax surplus. Their priorities tend to be either rewarding voters or buying votes. I don’t hear much discussion about a “rainy day fund”. There is discussion regarding no longer taxing social security but half of the politicians will have a fit if that applies to all SS recipients. Given time both sides will create a s show and then waste a good portion if not all. If private donors want to earmark their donations, it’s best to say thank you. If they wish to make unrestricted donations then public sentiment is a factor.

Wanting better than 7-4/6-5 isn’t popular? Anyone who believes that isn’t paying attention. For those who aren’t going to contribute when we are not doing as well as we would like, that’s ok but then let the rest of us move on. I think assuming that because one doesn’t agree with how we get to the Championship level means they are happy with 7-4, 6-5,8-3, 9-2 is wrong. For those who see the answer as coaching changes, you may be right. Some of us look at where we are, the contracts, the resources, the facilities and think we dug such a big hole waiting to move up that it is taking more time than we like. As our resources slowly improve, and we coaching changes not on the horizon, then some have decided we have to continue to be patient. I expect us to be better next year and I think we have resources in place to be better. I may be overly optimistic but it beats complaining over and over again about things I can’t control. What I can do is go to games and send money. I can encourage kids in my community to take advantage of the tremendous academic and growth opportunities at UND. It isn’t that rare that an athlete chooses a school where his or her friends/relatives/former teammates go (especially boyfriend/girlfriend). Like I said I may be wrong and if so, I’m ok with that. If UND changes coaches or continues to support our staff I will support UND either way.

I’m not so sure. Probably not card sales or shirts. Will the mattress company give more than the Red Pepper? What will it cost to get a 2 or 3 star to UND or NDSU. Scholarships and championships may no longer be as high of a priority as before. The Power 5’s and schools in metro areas or nearby big businesses will be able to sweeten the offers for recruits. Starting to wonder about hockey.

I’m not holier than anyone in fact I don’t think I would be described as holy. No one has mentioned accomplishments. I was trying to find out how you knew anything about the culture. I guess I shouldn’t have pointed out the irony of your constant criticisms of coaches and players, yet to get upset when someone criticizes your comments. I’m sorry if clarifying questions make you uncomfortable.

Feeney has all of the tools. He played 5A FB and through for almost 2000 yds 36tds with only 1 int. 6’3” 205. Can run the ball. I would be very disappointed if we can’t help him develop into our starter. Romfo is athletic and all he does is win. Kaminski looks like a very talented kid and he and Feeney are similar in size, both good athletes. I would be very disappointed if we can’t develop these guys into very good QBs but then again, I’m not at practice nor in the film room. Time will tell.

Yup. Often those kids are seen at summer FB camps where coaches see their potential. Haeg was a miss by both UND and NDSU. Very bright, great athlete, great work ethic. Neither offered $ but fortunately for NDSU neither did UND. Former UND tackle coaching at Brainerd told anyone who would listen this kid would be good. Gophers missed on him altogether. Lots of similars stories over the years.

Shep stated an opinion. Don’t get so defensive. Settle down??? All Shep did was state and opposing opinion. You can “call out” coaches, players, others but someone disagrees and you tell them to settle down? You assume that because someone supports the coaching staff they are “buddy buddy” with them. I’d be surprised if people have anymore of a relationship with coaches than having met them and an occasional handshake or hi at UND events. Because some don’t agree with firing the coaches at this time doesn’t mean they are happy or satisfied with the season or our progress as a program. Let’s see if I can get some straight answers. You makes statements regarding the “culture “ regarding team/coaches. How do you know this? What experiences do you have that would give you credibility regarding culture? Are you “buddy buddy” with coaches, players etc. or is it your experience as a player or coach? ( playing Madden 2021 or winning your fantasy FB league doesn’t count). You don’t have to have played or coached to be a knowledgeable fan. Calling for coaching changes is always a reasonable opinion based on the success or failure of the team or teams over time. Disagreeing is just as reasonable. Some of your criticisms seem to go beyond the what a regular fan would have knowledge of. Your opinions are as valid as anyone else but they may be given more credibility if we could understand how you have reached your conclusions. Don’t answer if you don’t wish to but that may be a reason a lot of folks will “call you out” for the same criticisms and perceived (or otherwise) recurrent theme of negativity. You may be more knowledgeable or have the inside track that the rest of us don’t have.

These athletes get missed when recruiters focus more on listed height and weight, sometimes quality of hs competition (small school kids) rather than quickness, foot speed, overall athletic ability and projecting potential for those athletes. The best recruiters see the potential in these kids and get them on campus where the programs develop them as they physically mature. To me this is one of the keys to improving programs. Waletzko, Haeg, are two examples but there are many over the years. Also seeing the potential of hs kids who can play other positions in college. (ie can the 6’ 6” QB from DGF play free safety, TE, OLB or DE at this level? ).

These kids are coached to form tackle properly. Our team didn’t tackle well this year. You focus more on knocking the ball out when either you need a turnover toward the end of a game or the opportunity presents due to poor ball security by the ball carrier.

I’m not sure what you were trying to say in your last paragraph. If you meant to say “nothing but exemplary…” I would agree. Almost all alumni I have spoken with, including those from GF, have been impressed with Andy. I would concur.

You are correct. But frankly, once the NCAA made us drop the Brien logo it doesn’t matter. We are the Fighting Hawks which is better than some. It’s never been about a logo or name to me. It’s all about success of our programs. The logo/name nonsense remains divisive. It does UND no good.

In addition to sorting out the facts and most importantly, making sure no laws were broken or policies violated, regardless of whose fault this is, UND takes a PR hit and is scrambling to clean up this mess. One would hope the facts will help put this to rest. Once the media gets involved, facts may get clouded. I’m afraid this issue will continue all season,especially if the hockey team continues to struggle.

You stated clearly that they did. Now you admit you have no idea what you are talking about. I have always wondered what motivates people to make statements like this that may harm the reputation of others. It’s one thing to speculate over a beer or private communications but it was posted on a public forum so it will now have “legs”. (Similar to the nasty remarks about Chaves regarding the FB bid).

You are correct. The announcer is ok. He didn’t used to drag it out which has become abrasive. Just my opinion.

Someone needs to tell the announcer to tone down and shorten the “aaaaaaaaawwwwww…………………… it’s 3rd down…. Or stop it all together. By the time he finishes there is little time for fans to crank up crowd noise.
