I’m not sure anyone can say Nebraska isn’t good enough to win the MVFC. SDSU played Iowa tough but couldn’t move the ball. Iowa needs to get a lot better if they are going to contend for a conference championship. We haven’t seen the Bison yet but I assume they are the team to beat. Nebraska has some pieces of the proverbial puzzle. They have a big offensive line and some very talented RB’s. If their QB settles in and mixes in his ability to run they can be decent. Having said that I don’t believe fans are proud of any loss. I believe they are proud of the effort.

Tough loss. The coaches had the guys well prepared and they played hard and competed against a Nebraska team that had a huge offensive and a big defensive line, and some very quick hard running backs on offense and some good speed defensively especially their linebackers and secondary. A couple of big mistakes put us in a hole in the third quarter and we couldn’t get back in it in the 4th quarter. If we clean up a couple of stupid penalties, get our punting squared away, stay healthy, and improve each week we can be pretty good. Great atmosphere for our guys who didn’t seem in awe.

That call was not a good call in the first place and was made worse by the confusion on UND’s part. Along with the timeout which alerted virtually everyone in the arena to suspect what was coming it obviously fooled no one. Frost’s call was unexpected and had a better chance of success compared to our fiasco.

I agree execution of plays are influenced primarily by coaching, practice, film study, and game prep. That can all be done properly and the play may break down or it may not work. A Rogers, T Brady, Mahomes, Allen, Montana, Unitas, Star all made mistakes. Lombardi’s players, Saban’s players and every other great coach have had players or teams who didn’t execute. It seems some forget that there are 11 guys and on some plays it only takes one person to fail to execute for the play to fail. It seems some forget that there are also 11 guys on the opposite side of the ball who are also coached to execute each play perfectly. We have very little idea of why the coach called this particular play and criticism of the call is fair. Coaches will ultimately be held responsible for the end results. Wins, championships, success in the classroom, problems off the field etc. Although I don’t know the background of many who post on this site, I wonders how many have spent hours and hours breaking down game film, practice film, recruit’s videos, fighting for budgets, dealing with fans, public appearances etc while at the same time trying to take care of their families. I’m pretty sure the Nebraska staff has critiqued this play over and over again both the execution and the decision. Just my opinion.

Points well taken. Obviously it didn’t work but we may disagree as to whether it’s poor coaching or not. I don’t buy into the thought that every poor play or call that doesn’t work is poor coaching.

That is true. I wouldn’t have tried it but if you are going to, I think that wasn’t a bad time. I doubt it was expected. Well played by the Northwestern guy and poorly executed by Nebraska.

Only when it doesn’t work. Poorly executed kick, one guy on receiving team was paying attention and covered the kick before kicking team could touch it. If it works, Nebraska maintains momentum and maybe can score to make it very difficult for Northwestern to get back in game. Not sure why they called it but it wasn’t expected. Nebraska coach maybe saw something or knew something about the game I didn’t. Easy to say it’s poor coaching, but if it works, then it’s a genius move. Not a bad time to try it when you have a 2 score lead. I probably would not have considered it but every failure isn’t poor coaching. Not a bad idea and if kicker executes the kick better or kicking team gets downfield and blocks the Northwestern guys ability to get to the ball, I think there is a good chance it works.

Good comment. One of the things Saban did when got to Alabama was to hire a woman on his staff. He said many of his players were raised by a Mom, Grandmother or other adult woman. Too often without a father or even a consistent father figure. He found it was very beneficial to have a woman communicating to his players on behalf of the other coaches.

Maybe should have fixed it last fall but then he may not have been ready for the combine. Tough decision.

Nonsense. They may want him in early to communicate with him, have him develop relationships with Badger players and other potential recruits and maybe or maybe not make an offer. Usually the athletes have some options as to which weekend they will make their visit. Badger staff may have re-evaluated their priorities.

No one was accused of “charges”. Reportedly there was an accusation of sexual assault. If there were charges, that would change how this would be handled. NDSU administration and staff would likely be smart enough to refuse to elaborate on protected information. It serves no purpose. It is none of our business.

It serves no purpose. To do so opens one up to further questions that involve protected information. When you can’t further comment, it leads to further speculation from media, and others who normally have no experience dealing with issues of this magnitude. There is no reason for Chaves, Bubba, or anyone else from UND to comment further. There is no need to know.

Because that could put Bubba and the University in a vulnerable position legally. This information is protected by the Data Privacy laws. You have media people and some moron attorney speculating. There are other attorneys that would be more than happy to represent the accused or the alleged victim if Bubba or anyone else makes a comment that gives either party the opportunity to go after big money. All UND officials need to simply relate they have no comment. I believe we have no legal right to the details of this situation beyond what was released.

Both Carriers committed to the Gophers. Ethan is a 2023 PWO as a walk on DB. Mason is Fleck’s first 2024 commitment as a LB. They had been to UND’s camp last year. I was hoping we could sneak them under the radar. Not sure we had offers out to either.

There is no reason to either defend nor condemn anyone. We have no idea what the accusations are. We have no idea of timelines. We have no idea of how it initially played out, who made the decisions, nor why. What I believe is that Coach Feeney at Moorhead HS worked hard to help a kid who had multiple challenges. UND FB took a chance on the kid. The story at HS level was that he was a “good kid” and was responding to the positive influence of Coach Feeney and the Moorhead staff and teammates. It seems to me, that regardless of the details, the kid failed to keep focused on his goals and didn’t seem to understand that he let down his coaches and teammates past and present. The sexual assault issue is serious for the alleged victim and the accused. The law doesn’t allow UND to release information. A sports reporter with any integrity would respect that. Normally, UND would turn the information over to legal counsel and follow advice of counsel. I doubt we will know for sure the details of the incident nor the timing of when information was available to UND and legal authorities. At this point in time, it doesn’t matter. The kid has moved on. UND made an effort to help a kid and it failed. Had the kid been a fourth string extra point holder, I would hope it would have been handled the same. I would assume nothing. I also don’t care what others think. It doesn’t help the kid, the alleged victim, nor UND to speculate. If the alleged victim was raped, then it should be dealt with by legal authorities. If the victim doesn’t wish to put herself through the trauma of a trial, then I hope she has the resources and support system to help deal with the trauma.

Gophers offered 2024 younger brother Mason Carrier 6’2” 215 lb RB, QB, LB. Ran a 4.7 forty. 35” vertical. Strongest kid on the team. Second leading scorer and leading rebounder on BB team. Both are A Students and multiple event guys in track. They have been to UND’s camp. I sent Bubba a note last fall. I was hoping we could keep them “ under the radar” but offered Mason and PWO to Ethan will be tough to get them.
