  1. Someone has has some 'splaining to do. Seriously, this is a black eye for the University. Wrongs need to be made right. The sad part about this is that UND's General Counsel is the one messing this up. You would think it may be possible for a department head to make an error in judgment that needs to be corrected, but this is the bloody head legal person at UND.
  2. Roughnecks isn't bad for the men, but Wildcatters works for both men and women. Roughnecks for the women, ahhh, not so much.
  3. This is going to keep growing.. UND needs to keep expanding the petroleum engineering and geologic engineering programs.
  4. It has been put forth previously, but when I saw the post by Star2city regarding the oil industry, Wildcatters came back to me. The logo could be an oil derrick with the interlocking ND on it. There are a couple of Wildcatters in Lousiana and Texas, The Lafayette Wildcatters of the SIFL didn't play in 2011 and the Texas Wildcatter of the ECHL ceased operations in 2008. There are no Wildcatters in college.
  5. Is Al Carlson a phony populist?
  6. What if.... No North Dakota would alter sports landscape
  7. Brian Faison became UND's Athletic Director in May 2008. With his leadership the Athletic Department has made great strides. He hired Ashley Hardee and the volleyball program took off. UND now has a contract to televise all of the mens home hockey games, along with some women's hockey, BB and football. UND is joining the Big Sky in 2012. Faison took the lead in the formation of The National, starting in 2013. If he continues with this type of progress, he will likely go down as one of the best ADs UND has ever had. Brian came from the New Mexico State of the WAC. Any long range plans coming thru those connections. Hmmmm?
  8. Grimaldi's stature may grow despite his diminutive size
  9. The picture on this story which references the WSJ piece is more to my liking.... Study (Abroad) in North Dakota for Less Nice meta tag to Chuck Klosterman, too.
  10. WCHA to Formally Accept Northern Michigan
  11. I haven't heard the whole thing, but what I did hear is that they have $15M in soft money at this point shooting for a total of $37M in the next 3 months to move forward.
  12. Already being shortened by coaches and ADs to "The National". I saw where a writer referred to it as "The Nat".. I like The National, not so much The Nat.
  13. New Republic has a list of Offensive or Controversial Mascots. Slideshow: America’s Most Offensive or Otherwise Controversial Athletic Mascots I love the part about the Stanford band being banned from Irish games.
  14. I'm not so sure about the "not in geographic reach" term. Goon posted that there were four teams already looking at the NCHC. Could it be a couple of East Coast teams are interested? This makes me wonder..... I've read a couple of places where the name is considered to be lame. By what standard? Do people consider the National Football League to be a lame name? How about the National Hockey League? I think when all of the teams are "signed up" and we see that we have a "National" conference the name will fit nicely.
  15. Someone already has updated Wikipedia with National Collegiate Hockey Conference
  16. Interesting timeline put together by NCAA.... New hockey conference timeline
  17. Notre Dame hockey: No move yet for Irish
  18. I may have missed it, but hadn't seen this piece posted yet.... League UND will join in 2013 to announce name Wednesday I think I'll plan to spend tomorrow afternoon in the office.
  19. NY Times pieces on the name... [url=http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/13/us/13sioux.html]North Dakota and N.C.A.A. Are at Odds Again Over University
  20. Who ruined college hockey? Blame Minnesota or Wisconsin but whatever you do, don't blame the North Dakota Fighting Sioux
  21. Don't you love when the headline and the story don't match? Badgers hockey could join new league Maybe it's wishful thinking.
  22. UND looking to keep up with times in new league Reasons for the new conference.... Exposure There have already been discussions with members of the new league and television executives about getting games nationally televised on Versus, which is expected to soon be re-branded as the NBC Sports Network. Like-minded schools You will probably hear athletic directors use the
