    Jobs

Good resources, but I've never been hired for an advertised job. Mine have either come from word of mouth or knocking on doors. The best job I ever got was from simply walking in the door with a resume in my hand.

    Jobs

It struck me this morning while reading the WSJ how fragile the job market is. I see where the third largest chemical company in the world was contemplating filing for Chapter 11. You never know whose job may get axed. I thankfully still have a job, but you never know what the new year may bring. I was at a recent state BOD meeting for our industry and heard stories about contractors in South Florida that have no work and are waiting for the phone to ring. We have seen the bid market drop to margins near 0% profit just to keep the employees working and cash flowing. With all of this in mind I thought we could start a thread for people who either have lost their jobs, are looking for a job due to their current uneasy situation or for those who know of jobs that may need to be filled or possible leads. Jim, if this thread is out of line for SS.com, go ahead and delete it.
  3. As long as that color isn't red.... Seeing red over scarlet-marked homework
  4. Dave, many of us are just being realistic. The name is all but gone. We don't like it but it is just a matter of time. If your wife changed her name would you feel anything less for her? UND may change the moniker, but the school and tradition will endure.
  5. I agree. Basketball has changed from a game of skill to a muscle game. The NBA of today is unrecognizable compared to the gane of the 1980's. I don't even watch it anymore. College BB is headed in the same direction, sadly.
  6. First, congratulations on the win against Iowa State. Second, his name is Griffan not Griffith. Lastly, I'm glad that he didn't "stick" with UND. From what I recall he wanted to go to SDSU, but waited too long and Nagy filled the spot with someone else. So he commits to UND, lasts one semester and quits. On the way out the door he makes snide comments about Jones. Sounds like he either has some growing up to do or just a bad egg. For Griffan's sake I hope he just has some growing up to do. It has been my observation that employers will put up with talented people with bad attitudes for only so long and then kick them to the curb. BTW, just checked the box score and find that while Griffan did have 3 steals, he scored 0 points in 31 minutes. He must be known more for his defensive skills. Congrats to SDSU on their win.
  7. Alerus, UND release details of 10-year lease agreement I find it quite interesting that the agreement between the Alerus and UND would include an attendance clause such as this. There is no attendance requirement for FCS (I-AA) and won't be for the next 10 years, if ever. I-A?
  8. I had a new interlocking ND logo a while back here.
  9. UND's budget data for year ending 06-30-08 Grand Total Revenues $12,700,648 Grand Total Expenses $12,645,629 Institutional Data for UND In this day and age it is good to see black ink rather than the red that is bleeding across the country. Keep it going Sioux.
  10. Scott Herring named chief financial officer for athletics
  11. Wow!!!! Can we log these goals somewhere and use them later in the season? Nice job, guys.
  12. Let's go SIOUX !!!!
  13. Nice last game for Freund and something to build on for next year for Bamba and Murray...
  14. Annual UND powwow scheduled for spring 2009 canceled Are people starting to lose their desire to support the powwow due to the ongoing dispute over the nickname??
  15. Thanks for the updates, WI.
  16. Beautiful!
  17. Woo Hoo! Go Sioux!!
  18. Ditto. Thanks guys.
  19. Grand Forks Guy has a discussion on the future of UND facility-wise. Where will UND build in the future?

  21. Book sheds light on First Nations players I wasn't there, but this book sounds like fiction. Was it widely known at the time that Ralph may pull funding for REA? I thought that it only became known after the issue was resolved.
  22. I'm sure that some who have posted they like the name Cavalry have done it in jest, but I'm sure there are some who are serious. I have been of the mindset that the majority of the people at both Standing Rock and Spirit Lake are not against the Fighting Sioux name and in general are supportive of UND. There is a small group at both places that have the loud voice and want the name changed at any cost. If UND were to change to the Cavalry moniker, Ron His Horse of Thunder and his crew would be happy, because they won and the name has been changed, but you would likely anger the very people who have been supportive of the Fighting Sioux name. Cavalry $0.02

    WWU vs UND

    Thanks Ryan. Very nice.
  24. I agree that being a member of the Republican party is not what it once was. The party has moved too far to the left. A couple of years ago, I heard someone with an analysis that hit the nail on the head. The Republicans of today are what the Democrats were 40-50 years ago and the Democrats of today are what Socialists were 40-50 years ago. I lean more toward the Libertarian point of view on most issues, except for the drug thing. Get the government out of everyone's business. Edit: With little choice at this time, I vote for the more conservative candidate.
  25. Actually, it is over 40% that don't pay taxes. Fact check: Would Obama raise taxes on some to cover tax credits for others?
