Outside of ND and MN, some of the largest fan bases are in Phoenix, Denver and Seattle. More UND alumni move west than move east. Univ of Northern AZ - Phoenix Univ of Northern Colo - Near Denver. Portland State - Not too far from Seattle. Eastern Washington - Seattle/Spokane

The bylaws probably don't mention football by name. It is likely that there is a requirement that when six members of a conference (Summit) play a sport, they must play that sport in conference. UND is not pushing this agenda. UND is not in and it is being discussed. It probably caught Faison off-guard. You are right if current members feel threatened they may vote no, but what political price would the NDSU president pay in the state if he voted no? I would still rather UND be in the Big Sky. I think it closer to the concentrations of the fan base, that is outside of ND and MN.

All good points. Still, I would be none too happy if I were the XDSU's, if this were to transpire.

I doubt that either NDSU or SDSU has any interest in Summit football. If that were pushed, I could just as easily see them granted full membership in the Valley, as the Valley would be in self preservation mode as well.

I don't think a Summit football conference would be possible in the near term future (10 years) or ever. I understand why they are talking about it, the sustainability of the conference for the long term, but it has a very low probability.

Whitey's was the place to be when I lived in GF. I still like to go there when I'm back in town, but you are right, it doesn't have that "pop". The atmosphere of the old Whitey's is sadly just a memory.

Kind of makes you wonder who the people were on the NCAA Rules Committee that approved these changes. Do they have any knowledge of hockey? Did someone forward these ideas and they blindly went along with them? Edit: ..... Rules committee

Interesting thread going on over at Egriz on the possible move to FBS. Seems many think that they couldn't afford it and the state wouldn't approve the additional funding. Which amazes me, as they get 30% ($5,035,937) of the their revenues through ticket sales and only 27% of their revenue through Direct Institutional Support, which I postulated on here, using UND's numbers.
