If you build it, will they (WAC) come?

Also tied at #159 is Maine and Texas Tech. UND is in good company.

Wow! I read they were having budget problems in Minnesota, but I didn't expect this.

US News is out with their college rankings. UND is now listed as a Tier I National University. It wasn't too many years ago that UND was Tier III. I don't know if US News changed their criteria or what. UND is ranked #159 in the Tier I catergory. I don't think the endowment information is accurate.

Wayne Nelson is doing a daily blog of the Sioux practices for those that need their Sioux football fix..... Wayne's World I'm interested in seeing how the no-huddle offense works out for the Sioux this year.

I nominate Star to be in charge of fund raising. I see that Cargill just doubled their profits in the fourth quarter. May be a good time to hit up UND alum and CEO Greg Page.

Not according to these two tables. They actually show the opposite to be true, minimally. I had to use Fargo, as they didn't list GF.... Missoula Fargo These tables do show the wind. 5 mph for Missoula and 12.5 mph for Fargo.

They seem to do quite well with attendance at Montana with an outdoor stadium. Pulling together data from a couple of different websites, it seems that the average highs and lows for Grand Forks and Missoula are almost the same in October. In November GF is about 6 degree colder for both the highs and the lows.. I don't know how much wind they get in Missoula, which would make a difference.

Thanks. 8658 average for the season.

Oops, I missed the SDSU game. UND had 6 home games that year. Unfortunately, there is no stats for that game.

Wow!! Nice Media Guide. Great job. Go Sioux!!!

Does anyone know the approximate count of students attending football games at the Alerus? I'm still of the mind that student attendance would increase if the games were brought back to campus. Although the Alerus is not that far off campus, I think marketing for the game would be a lot easier on campus. The best year at Memorial had an average of 9,150 in 1976 when the enrollment at UND was just under 8,900. UND's enrollment has grown 40% since then. Grand Forks has grown as well.

Looking back through the attendance figures, the highest average home attendance between 1962 and 2000 was in 1976 with an average of 9,150. The lowest was in 1991 (4,846), when the Sioux played 4 home games, including Morningside, Augustana and Moorhead State. SDSU also plays outdoors and they have seen an increase of between 40-50% in attendance over their old D2 days. Granted Grand Forks is colder than Brookings, but people from North Dakota are tougher.

The good old days at Memorial... I wasn't at this game, but it sure brings back memories to games I did see at Memorial Stadium.

I'm pretty sure I don't know what I'm talking about here
GeauxSioux replied to Fetch's topic in UND Nickname
The change to Division I had nothing to do with the name change. The now inevitable name change would have occurred regardless of classification. -
Fire sprinklers,,,,. Smoke alarms only alert you to get out.

The new turf was installed in 2007. The old days of tailgating at Memorial were great. I haven't tailgated at Memorial since 1992. I've been to the Alerus twice. I had a great time in both locations.

Okay, if it can't make money doing concerts. Reconfigure the building and change its mission. As Star said previously, co-locate other functions to the facility. Place the library and proposed fitness facility there. Market it for as a conference center. Create a children's museum in it. Stop trying to keep up with Fargo and market Grand Forks as something different. Since the Sioux only play 4-5 games a year in the arena portion of the facility, move football back on campus.

Tying a few different threads together, I'm forwarding the idea of moving football back to Memorial Stadium. The Alerus has been a nice home for Sioux football for the past 10 years, but is it a long term home? Let the city transform the Alerus. I know in the past, I have been an advocate for Sioux football in the Alerus. But there are reasons for moving out of the Alerus. The Alerus is not expandable, Memorial is. There was a thread last year about the poor atmosphere outside of the Alerus on game day. Move back on campus and I am sure that would change. I read in a football blog from a southern school that they like their advantage over northern teams that come south when there is high heat and humidity. Reverse that and have them come north when the weather favors North Dakota. I also read on Egriz, when turf was a topic of conversation, that North Dakota's practice field was better than the game day turf. Practice where you play. Make it a true home field. I don't know how many people attend Sioux games, because they are indoors, but I think an increase in numbers from students would offset it. Obviously this will take time and money to upgrade Memorial, but money won't be spent on rent for the Alerus either.

Thanks Wyo. With that I'll revert to my "I will be the first to admit, that I'm no expert on Arbitron ratings" statement, but will keep the "We'll see how it shakes out in a couple of years" statement in my hip pocket.
