  1. sr - were you in a hurry when you wrote this? 'cause you have "errors" correct AND you used the proper form of "too/to/two" -- what's up? I'm getting used to decoding your stuff and then you throw a "curve of correctness".
  2. Tim and Swyg Tuesday morning interview with Ferris head Coach Bob Daniels. TIM: 30 games won this year, most of any team in the tourney, they are the CCHA champs, and have a hobey finalist. Coach Bob Daniels (CBD) there is good pressure on the team now -- at the beginning of the season the team/players/coaches goal was to be in the top 4 in the CCHA. Yes, last year they (Ferris) finished 9th in the league, however, the goalie (freshman last year) Mike Brown was out with an injury and the team dropped quite a few games during that time, and then Kunitz (hobey finalist this year) lost 8 games with a knee injury at the end and it hurt their place in the final standings. So the jump from 9th last year to a top 4 team this year wasn't as unlikely as it appears on paper. TIM: Did you put much importance in winning the league title? CBD: The NCAA tourney wasn't something we considered to be a concern, the league title was our focal point -- this was our 1st title in 20 some years in the league. There is a concern that we spent a lot of emotion just to win the league. Our fans are excited because realistically hockey is the only sport our school is able to compete with the big 10 schools. CBD: Our team is not very big -- we've recruited more "skaters" -- looks for speed. We are top heavy - most of the scoring is dependant on the 1st line (Kunitz & company). I really enjoy coaching a wide open style. Wide open hockey is exciting hockey to play and to watch. This style of play has really helped us on the recruiting trail. If you don't have the horses to play wide open, you do get stuck clogging the neutral zone -- that boring type of play can win you more games if you don't have the speed of your opponent, but it isn't fun hockey to watch or play. Olympic size rink is a concern, but our players and style of play is well suited for the bigger ice sheet -- we should adapt well to the size, but we just don't have the experience (only 2 games on olympic size this year). Don't know much about UND -- it will be a fun game -- last year Ferris played at a tourney at the UMN so most of the team is sort of familiar with the gopher's rink. ** these are not direct quotes -- I took some liberty in the phrasing**
  3. Effective or not -- it'd be a huge emotional lift -- if he's cleared to play, regardless if he is "game ready", that means he is well on the road to recovery. That is a worry that is gone.

  5. The ranting and raving on uscho does make it really hard to read at times, however, I really enjoy the scores update thread. Also it wouldn't be a good week without Sica's "the list" thread in the community section. I would feel really lost without both this site (siouxsports) and uscho. The uscho site is an excellent way to become informed on other teams/conferences/players. When the events of Sept 11 unfolded I was glued to uscho -- I remember when Ritt18 (a "hated" BC fan) posted that he was getting out of there (NYC) -- I cried in relief that this pompous @ss was okay -- that's what uscho has the potential to do -- bring together hockey fans from across the USA and Canada to create a funny, antagonistic, informative forum. Many of the posters stop just short of crossing "the line" but that's the fun in it -- the few that cross are easily "ignored" or in some cases are banned. And even when they're banned it's entertaining to figure out who they now are (ie Chris!!!, eaglebunny, newton, Cathy's something or other, wasn't there something about bean or beacon hill?) I love reading the "discussions" between Chuck Murray, Bobo, darin, etc.... -- they can make the flaming between UND and UMN seem tame!
  6. Thanks to some of the eastern hockey fans on uscho I like to listen to the band "Zambonis". http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=glance&s=music this is the amazon link to the cd I have "More Songs About Hockey" the Hextall chant is one of my favorites. Their home page is www.thezambonis.com Also Warren Zevon's song "Hit Somebody" is excellent.
  7. But for "happy", he's the biggest fan of UND/Dean Blais/Grand Forks that the posting world has known. Not.

    Sensers Sunday!

Well considering that the gophers common man (I consider) to be Handy, I think us Sioux fans are doing just fine with your look!

    Sensers Sunday!

On today's show Dubay was telling PA that the Sioux fans lifted the lid off of sensors when the ot goal was scored. Dubay also mentioned a specific Sioux fan who reacted to the game in the same way Dubay watches a game --- foot tapping, table top thumping, ready to jump out of his skin. He also mentioned that everytime the puck was near JB there was a lot of tension from the Sioux fans. A Sioux caller told Dubbay that that's how the season has been, but that JB did turn in an excellent job this weekend.
  10. I don't know what/if CB has a policy, however, during the UMD series I believe Tim H. commented that he was surprised that Scott Sandelin allowed players to have flowing hair (ie Caig) since CB was not too supportive of that kind of look. (the comment was something to that effect)
  11. I believe you're only 3 syllables short.
  12. I wonder if siouxrock can do haiku?
  13. to elaborate on this point: 3/9/01 - 3/11/01 3 playoff games vs Duluth 3/10/00 - 3/12/00 3 playoff games vs Denver 3/12/99 - 3/14/99 3 playoff games vs. MSU all at the old Ralph -- my wish is that the Sioux get Friday and Saturday night wins and start that kind of tradition at the new Ralph
  14. My only question is: Is this sentence meant to be correct as it is written; or is it really siouxrock speak for: I once got a mallet to my head/mellon.
  15. Mine "lived" in the back of the blazer, however, my nephew liked to hold it up at passing cars and since I wanted to keep it in "mint" condition, it likewise now resides in a bookcase.
  16. He definitely has a better hairdo than Britney! I could bring the "Dean Blais Face" on a stick they handed out, was it last year?
  17. The gophers might have experienced the rally bat this year but nothing compares to the Wookie! He'd probably make a really good mascot.
  18. Or maybe he'll be lookin' like the "Future Camaro Mullet" man http://www.mulletlovers.com/regular_men.html Forecheck, I didn't see Mr. Durno -- I think he should be nominated -- he'd give the guy labeled "a mullet named Jim" a run for his money.
  19. Just a note to say thanks for this site. I really enjoy that there is a pro-Sioux website where we can have a good exchange of info and comments. I appreciate that dissenting opinions are tolerated here but that the forum admx will deep six the likes of JBB who added nothing in the context of constructive counterpoint(s). While flame wars can be enjoyable there should at least be some level of respect from the participants.
  20. Tangent to original topic: Tim and Swyg talked to Andy S this morning -- couple of nuggets: regarding the advantage of mile high at Denver and CC -- dread penatly kills 'cause it is really hard to catch your breath, especially at CC, you're just running around trying to kill 'em off -- can hardly wait for period breaks to go into the locker room and collapse onto your back and put your feet in the air -- Mr. RE should have built a mountain to put the Ralph on so we'd have that advantage too. Regarding Winchester from Wisconsin trying to pick a fight with ZP last weekend -- with playoffs next (this) weekend no way were we going to let ZP fight, now, in Nov. and/or early Dec we'd let them go as ZP is feisty and doesn't back down, but during playoffs they need him to be on the ice scoring.
  21. The following is my recap from the UMD vs. UMN Women's Championship which took place in GF at the Ralph on Saturday evening. Good hockey -- two different styles -- the gopher team is speedy and small compared to the bulldogs, but the bulldogs have the complete package. Their (bulldogs) size is impressive, but as impressive is how fluid they are. While I'd say the gophers are quicker, the bulldogs are fast, and add in their size, it is easy to see how they went up 4-1 by the end of the 2nd period. The gophers showed great heart in the 3rd, while on a 2 man advantage pp they scored to make it 4-2 with 11:31 left and then with one in the box that continuing pp they scored with 11:15 left to make it 4-3. The gophers had the bulldogs on their heels. #20 Natalie Darwitz for the gophers is awesome - fast and feisty - she was tenacious. The bulldogs, however netted their own pp goal with 7:42 left in the 3rd to seal a 5-3 victory. The goaltenders for both teams were solid in net -- the goalie for the bulldogs, Patricia Sautter (a senior) was a member of the Swiss Olympic team and the goalie for the gophers Jody Horak (a sophomore) has a .941 save %. One of the scarier moments for me was when Sautter dove out to try to stop a break away - beautiful play, however she was way beyond the dots for the face off circles and was pretty unprotected and I'd spent the morning on USCHO reading about the Joe Exter/Patrick Eaves accident -- it all happens so fast and in this situation there was no impact - beautiful play by the goalie but she could've really been "pasted". Tourney MVP was Caroline Ouellette from UMD (only a sophomore) wow is she good, also the team captain Maria Rooth (senior) really made things happen. Some of the highlights for me: 1) in the 1st period one of the players was "checked" (supposedly no checking in women's hockey) into the door for the penalty box and the door swung open - she had pretty good balance as she didn't fall in, but it was close. 2) it just wouldn't be a game at the Ralph without someone yelling at the ref -- in this case it was a "You suck Sheppherd" -- since there were only 642 of us in the arena it carried pretty well 3) some things never change: 5:02 left in the 2nd period and UMN #19 AFTER THE WHISTLE took about 3 full strides, skated into the goal crease and gave a shot to the UMD goalie -- (we were 4 rows up in the corner -- it was pretty evident) -- she circled toward the gopher bench but UMD's #12 and #6 went after her -- one of them popped her in the back of the head -- thought we were going to have a big melee right there -- 4 roughing penalties and I think #19 also received an instigating penalty 4) one penalty for checking -- but there were some nice "non" checks administered -- as my spouse said, how do you call this stuff as it was a pretty physical game all around 5) xenophobes present -- 1/2 dozen gopher boys chanting USA and other stuff -- uh, guys, you have 4 Canadians -- maybe chant "North Americans" or "bullfrogs" (ie frogs is a term the french don't like so ...... since there are french canadians on the bulldogs.... (Ouellette I'm assuming is French-Canadian) -- UMD does have 3 from Finland, 1 Swiss, and 2 from Sweden) 6) goalie for UMN will lay down the lumber when necessary -- UMD is pretty big and physical and she wasn't afraid to mark her territory -- gave a couple good cross checks after the whistle to a UMD player kneeling in front of her -- I had no problem with that as we've seen too many UND goalies get run so good for her to mark her space -- after she did that she tapped the player on the leg with her goalie stick (my spouse thought she was pulling a Hauser, but I think it was more like a "sorry I have to nail you in the back if you crowd me, but good play tap on the leg", but the ref did give her a look like what are you doing)
  22. They are good -- next year they'll be older and better.
  23. Didn't want to start a new thread on this -- so I'm going to go off an a little tangent Where Are We? There is an interesting article on USCHO http://www.uscho.com/news/2003/03/03_006320.php on "bracketology" If the seedings for the regionals were made right now the WCHA would more than likely have 6 teams in CC #1, UMN #4, MSU-M #10, SCSU #11, UND #12, UD #14 bubble teams that are knocked out by Alabama Huntsville and Mercyhurst are Ohio State, Harvard or Michigan State U. UND as a #3 seed would likely face U New Hampshire out in the East Regional. The one team with what I think would be an ugly row to hoe would be CC -- at Michigan -- CC #1 seed would face Merchyhurst which is fine but then they'd face the winner of BC vs. Michigan. At Mpls you'd have UMN vs. Alabama Huntsville and Ferris State vs. MSU-M. If I was a gopher fan I'd probably start to count my chickens, even before they've hatched. This, of course, is speculation and will change but it is interesting.
