    Game 2 thread

hehe -- nice woogerism -- were you checking our reading comprehension skills?
  2. And that's exactly why Woog's comments are so bad -- it is a misconception which he is broadcasting as fact across the airwaves -- that broadcast is available to anyone who subscribes to the Fox Network Package -- so anyone in the country tuning in on Saturday heard a former college coach say UND lies/cheats/beats children (okay, maybe not that last one) -- there can be the very good argument made that Woog is a homer doing a broadcast for the home crowd, doing exactly what any color announcer would do, and therefore he shouldn't be crucified for his statment(s) HOWEVER this broadcast has the potential to be nationwide ..... oh well, what does it really matter? If someone on the east coast believes that UND inflates assists it isn't as if the world will stop spinning, it'll probably just be used against UND (player-s) being considered for the Hobey, and we know that one of the Eaves brothers is going to win this year ....
  3. Thanks PCM. I had my doubts about what the Wooger said, but he is a former coach and therefore would have a better idea of how the scoring of assists is granted. I enjoy the Wooger's commentary, BUT he really, really misled the listeners of the broadcast with his comments regarding UND and the granting of assists. I'm sure many people who watched the game on Saturday KNEW that Woog wasn't exactly correct in his multiple statments, however, I'm also sure there were enough casual fans watching the broadcast thinking -- "yah, that UND they're just cheaters" ..... I don't expect Woog to be a cheerleader for UND, however, he doesn't have to go out of his way to cast aspersions on UND.
  4. Don't know if it was mentioned but when the "Uranus, now that's a funny name for a planet" was shown on the big screen, Tim H. started laughing and said "I have no idea what this means, but it is funny" -- he didn't broadcast what the sign said, but there was no doubt that he was talking about that sign. Good Work.
  5. Yesterday I watched the tapes from this weekend's games and something which was said got me wondering about the distribution of points for assists. Who determines who gets an assist? Is it an employee of the arena, employee of UND, employee of the league? If it is someone from the U, is it just "one" person or can whomever is available do it? Are assists reviewed by the league? Are assists ever taken away "after the fact" (ie a week down the road)? Funniest part of the broadcast: "Up here they give assists for everything -- always give out the most you can give, blah, blah, blah" -- that is a loose quote --- next two goals for UND were: a goal with ONE assist and a goal with NO assist(s) Does UND have a reputation for giving out TOO many assists? And since that was what was stated by the announcer, why hasn't the league cracked down? Or is it something which happens at all the schools? (this is just a random thought which has no bearing on this season, but is this "reputation" for alledged cheap & easy assists a reason why Panzer didn't get a lot of votes from the WCHA coaches for the Hobey?)
  6. Warning: The following are corny, read at your own risk: Hale, Hale The Gang's All Here Fylling the Net with Ease JPar, ZPar, No SUBPar Here
  7. I'd give INCH a bench minor -- 2 weeks ranked at #1 compared to an article about Goalie Curses, no mention of Gino and/or CB in their top ranked college coaches, bench minors to the city of Grand Forks and Matt Greene -- who else (at this point in the year) are they going to rank #1? They did give some love to the Red Pepper ..... and Tim Hennesey likes talking to Jess from INCH ..... they are another source for college hockey so that's good, but are they Sioux friendly? no ...
  8. Does anyone know if the penalty that Troy Riddle received (unsportsman like conduct) at the 20:00 mark of the 3rd period was connected with Drew Stafford's penalty for boarding (given at the same time) -- or was Riddle's penalty for the puck he chopped into section(s) 103/104 when his teammates came out to greet Justin Johnson? I'm assuming that Riddle didn't have the intent to put the puck into the stands, however, there is always a chance it'll go -- most people had started to leave their seats and someone could've received a rather nasty shot to the back of the head -- maybe he didn't realize that there is no netting behind the goals. (Please note, I'm sure he's frustrated and didn't mean ill will, and it isn't like UND fans haven't "showered" opposing teams with cups/pop/etc... at the end of a Sioux loss -- but, generally, the fans aren't wearing helmets and aren't expecting a puck to come into the stands when they are walking out of the arena.) End of rant.
  9. Well, ah, see, I was just testing everyone's reading comprehension .... yah, that's it .... actually maybe because you (tSicatoka) and PCM and JimDahl are so omnipotent and omnipresent I think of you all as the 3 in 1 (sort of a trinity in a non-Matrix way) -- or something close to that ... oh yeah, you're also omniscient -- Hoover is correct ...
  10. If you need more useless information: tomorrow morning Tim and Swyg will be taking predictions for total goalie saves for this weekend series -- I bring that up because yesterday their quiz was "who was the first US president born west of the Mississippi" and seeing PCM's Truman comment it sparked this nonsense tangent, and no, it wasn't Truman. Total goalie saves: 109
  11. He (CB) doesn't need an excuse, he's the friggin' coach -- YOU want to decide who plays goalie, apply for the coaching job next time there's an opening .....
  12. Goal scoring by the Sioux and their ranked opponents 1st period: UND = 1 BC/UMD = 4 2nd period: UND = 3 BC/UMD = 3 3rd period: UND = 6 BC/UMD = 1 of the 10 scored by UND - all at even strength (2 were 4 x 4) of the 8 scored by BC/UMD - 1 shorthanded, 3 ppg and 4 at even strength the one goal scored in the 3rd against the Sioux was on a UMD pp ...... One line combo I've heard tossed out was Prpich, Fylling & McMahon -- some speed, grit and maybe a little orneriousness (okay, that's not a word, but it is an attitude).

CRR -- who was Steve talking about when he said that "person x" hates Europeans (hockey players)? Was it Don Cherry? I missed that part and only got the tail end of his statement ..... Funny too when Steve mentioned that when they are recognized at Canadian customs they get put to the front of the line, and hurried thru -- what a perk ...

YaneA -- what about some kind of eye-chart geared towards the ref/linesmen? Hey Ref: If you can read this you're not doing your job!! aargh!!!! I can't work my computer -- 1st line large print, subsequent lines smaller print --- can I list myself for being inept with my computer? Or something much more witty .....
  15. Sure -- I have a couple crowns too if you don't have one handy -- the care package will be in the mail.
  16. Actually forecheck is the Princess -- the Queen position is open -- maybe you'd like it?

Just to clarify --- at no time did either Shepherd ask for anyone "to layoff" -- I'm sure with the number of years they've been in the business they don't expect kid glove treatment -- and I'm sure that they realize that UND crowds aren't exactly fans of their penalty calling.... heck -- when the incident happened there were gopher fans mad and posting about the fact that Senior was wearing a Denver Pioneer shirt at one of the press conferences. I just was saying that "I" probably won't jump on him as much as I used to .....

I'm not a fan of Shepherd, junior and/or senior..... my problem is that since the terrible death of Senior Shepherd's mom (jr's grandma), and the press coverage that followed, I think of them as people who deal with everyday issues, and therefore can have a bad game or two or dozen ...... But life goes on .... and I'd put a wager down that 2nd to putting #2 in the penalty box, junior will get in the rut of sending #27 to the penalty box too. Neither Jr nor Sr seem to care for the Sioux's big, mobile and mean d-men.

I realize that the focus of the taunts should be the gopher team -- but anyone have any ideas about something for Somnor (& Nanne) -- along the lines --- Did you lose your map to SSM? (pertaining to their "friendly" persuasion trip to Zach's house -- Somnor hasn't called a game at the Ralph since ZPar became a Sioux).... Also -- maybe have a serious sign giving praise to Herb Brooks -- since this is UND's first WCHA game there will be a moment of silence, right? A classy--praising sign to Herbie -- thanks for the memories -- (no reference to Zach please, just something focusing on what Herbie brought to US, college & WCHA hockey.
  20. No comment on that particular sign -- however, mentioned many times how clever the signs were. Regarding the calling out in New Haven, CT -- Tim and Tim alluded to that a couple times -- ie: the Ralph is safer for broadcasters, Tim O'K. mentioned he would have backed Tim H. up

Woog's Words of Wisdom Pronunciation Chart: Smaby -- sounds like Baby Lundbohm -- no "l" Bochenski -- sounds like "goals" My pathetic attempt -- you all rock -- the signs were great -- keep up the great job.
  22. Saw/heard that too... NHL2 crew mentioned Gregg's goal, then showed the 2nd one and mentioned UND ..... just about fell out of the chair when Barry Melrose and his buddies gave props to a college player.
  23. And uscho is going off on it too -- why, oh why do people post stuff there? I have no problem with what Matt said. Why else would someone from Michigan come to ND if not for aviation or native American studies? Seniors from last year: CL, JN, KS -- where are they? Using a "insert your choice" degree? No, they are pursuing the dream of hockey ... and being paid for it. They went to college, had the college experience and, whether it is realistic or not, have the chance to see "show time". UND is a training ground/factory for post-college hockey -- no, I'm not saying an NHL factory, but rather, the coaching staff gives the hockey training and education so that these talented individuals can play at least a couple more years --- what a great thing: get to play hockey and get paid for it. Other recent Sioux getting checks for hockey (ECHL/AHL/NHL -- insert your own acronym): Mike Commodore, David Hale, Ryan Bayda, Tim Skarperud, Aaron Schneekloth, Travis Roche, Jeff Panzer, Karl Goehring, Jason Ulmer, Chad Mazurak, Brad Defauw ..... So while it is probably true that less than 5% of college hockey players make the NHL, there is a significant %, at least from UND, that are making a living at post-college hockey. As long as the current collegians are passing their classes, I couldn't care less if they liked "school" or not. There is time to finish their degree/use their degree when their playing days are done.

    Remember Radio

This Friday Troy Murray will be on 1440 am (can't remember if they said 7:30 am or 8:30 am) -- he's being inducted to the UND Hall of Fame. Next week, Friday, Nov 7th, the puffy of the air waves, Mr. Jeff Dubay will be on with Tim and Swyg (1440 am) at 7:30 am. Dubay will then travel to the REA and do his morning show (9am-noon) from the set of Sioux Ill. Callers are encouraged for the 7:30 am segment. Also, I believe that people will be able to view the 9am-noon show at the REA -- you might want to verify that, if you do, in fact, wish to go over there. Clarification please: Was it PA or Dubay who referred to Ralph Engelstad as "Nazi Ralph" on the radio? If it was Dubay, I believe that I may have a question or two. Also, starting (officially) on Nov 10th the entire PA & Dubay show will be carried in the Forks area -- 9am to noon -- Eddie will be carried later in the day, I believe.
