Ha ha, whew! I'm usually on top of this stuff, so I thought I may have missed something with the RPI changes. Wouldn't surprise me if thy decided to throw a new ranking system in the mix and involve Mexico somehow.

Although it's less aesthetically pleasing than the Penrose Cup, I like the one the NCAA gives to its champion better.

Wow...I feel really bad for the kid whose parents got their whole team thrown out of the tourney. He's only 7 or 8 and he's got a tremendous amount of baggage to lug around the rest of his hockey playing days!

It's the same old posts, and the same old replies. I can't figure out why some don't just put gfhockey on "ignore."

I love hockey, but an 80 minute game with three intermissions on a regular season night is likely going to be too much for most people. Plus, if you ended up with two ties on the weekend the teams will have played 2 2/3 full games. It's just not feasible. I like the 4x4 format in the NHL, but I dislike the shootout because it's a team sport. 4x4 and 3x3 at least keeps it more like the standard product, but with an increased number of scoring chances. I was completely fine with calling a tie after 5:00 of 5x5; but if the powers that be need to decide a "winner" for every game I feel shorthanded play is preferrable - just not for a full 20 minutes.
-
I like simply letting ties stand, but a full 20 minutes would require a full intermission to do the ice. Who wants to wait 15 min for them to do the ice in a reg season game just to have the game potentially end in 2 minutes? 4x4 for 10 min max would be acceptable IMO. I also like the idea of 5 min 4x4 followed by 5 min 3x3 if necessary.

On the bright side...the PK has been decent. That, plus we've been winning with a horrible PP.
-
They need to start a back checker on the far blue line...make it like an in-game breakaway.
-
If this is all it takes, just wait until someone complains about a fiery halftime or intermission speech...

I thought I heard his Olympics were in doubt yesterday on KFAN. He's trying to come back from a 6-8 week type of injury in 5 weeks.

When do the the NHLers leave for Sochi

Not quite...Zdeno Chara's last game for Boston was yesterday. He's carrying the Slovak flag in the opening ceremonies. -
Hey, c'mon, man...the 763 isn't quite as bad as the 320!
-
RIght...I just didn't want you to feel it was a reason to discredit this "dream tourney." Heck, the B1G schools could probably use the extra non-conference games against each other!

3 of the 4 Beanpot teams are HEA.
-
I'm not sure the Wild are in that big of a hurry.
-
Yeah, UND could probably hang 8 on SCSU if they didn't care about giving up 6...

We are much more mobile on the back end now than we were the last time we played BC. I'd take my chances out east.

Pittsburgh lost to Phoenix 3-1 tonight. Boston blanked Edmonton 4-0 today. And to top it off, Matt Cooke took a stick to the face early in the context of the Wild game. I'd say it has been a great day for hockey!

However, the question here is whether or not the puck would've gone in if the net hadn't been raised up. I bet the refs disallowed it because they determined that the puck slid under the raised portion of the net and would not have gone inside the post had the net been in place. I watched it several times, and in my opinion it wasn't conclusive enough to overturn the goal call made on the ice. I think it should've been a goal, but can see why the refs disallowed it. They determined it wouldn't have gone in had the net remained in place.
-
I guess the hockey Gods got the result right in the end.
-
The call on the ice was a goal, and it was awfully tough to tell if the puck went inside the post or under the dislodged net. Conclusive enough for the refs to overturn it I guess.
-
Just have your goalie kick the net off every time, I guess...

Because it's not the offseason?

One other thing that wasn't specifically mentioned - travel. Instead of that 20-10 gopher team possibly heading east, they get to stay in the metro. Not having to leave New England has been pretty good for BC, hasn't it? More often than not, teams like UM, BC, UND, etc. have earned the right to stay close to home by having good seasons. Teams like MN and BC, that are lucky to have a regional in their backyard every-other year, get the odds tilted in favor of not having to travel when that "bad" season happens during a hosting year. Ultimately, it comes down to the need for more acceptable "neutral" sites in the west. We have a lot of great facilities in MN, but most all of them except the X are home venues for their college teams! I like that Scheel's Arena is now in the mix.
