  1. I think the key emphasis of Sica's post is STYLE, not the physical rink. The NHL style doesn't seem to fit in the college game.
  2. But it sure helps. Many people on here (I believe you are included), believe PSU is on the fast track to becoming a respectable program. Why is that? Resources? While having the best facilities and resources doesn't guarantee a successful program, it sure makes it easier to succeed. Unfortunately, it also comes with higher expectations and fewer "excuses" for not living up to those expectations - whether they are fair or not. I can't decide if the struggles of this team are due to systems or personnel. Regardless, the head coach is responsible for both and is not above criticism. I do believe he should be afforded the opportunity to get the ship headed in the right direction again.
  3. I had to rewind that one myself, but he kept his arm down and made contact with his shoulder.
  4. Because the reason we can't score is because we give up the first one?
  5. I still question the notion that this team is "talented" in the sense that we are accustomed to.
  6. Sorry, but they were playing like this well before the flu bug hit.
  7. I suppose they see it as a place to rest after chasing the puck carrier.
  8. Are we sure on the talent part?
  9. You have no understanding of the cause/effect relationship outlined by Redneksioux. Cheap shots are the cause, fights are the effect. Eliminating cheap shots would eliminate fighting, not the other way around as you're suggesting. In fact, the European league example you cite would serve to prove the point everyone else is making - that a league without fighting still has players that take runs at defenseless opponents.
  10. We just don't play the game with the puck on our sticks...always defending.
  11. Now, the question is can the team do something with their good fortune and get back in the game.
  12. Maybe goalie contact...but would expect a penalty.
  13. No real way to conclusively tell and overturn the call...wow, no goal.
  14. Too many men is fitting for a team that's not playing with their heads.
  15. It's easy in Hak's system: their role goes from "dump" to "chase!" IALTO
  16. Which is exactly what they did 5 years ago before we had any sort of national TV deal at all. Seems the team did OK despite that.
  17. Exactly...there is quite a double-standard in play here.
  18. I was at the game, and while I wouldn't use the word "dominated," I would definitely say they had the better of the chances in the last 40 minutes of the game. It would have been interesting to see how the game had played out if UND hadn't jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first. I think that really changed the style both teams needed to play for the rest of the game. UND didn't spend as much time on the attack as UM, obviously, in the 2nd and 3rd, but from what I saw they did a great job of keeping everything to the outside. Minnesota found it to be pretty tough sledding in the middle of the ice.
  19. Looks like they're linked based on the article posted in the former players thread.
  20. Actually, "stooping to the level" of Giroux would be answering the bell and dropping the gloves before the officials get involved...like most other self-respecting hockey players would do. Stooping to the level of Sid the KID (emphasis on the word kid) involves doing exactly what he did - throw punches under the veil of safety that is an intervening official.
  21. Dave - what is your opinion of Crosby throwing uppercuts after the official engaged the two to break the scrum up?
  22. They certainly let a lot of stuff go in the last 5 min of the 2nd. Should be a very entertaining 3rd.
  23. A tad bit of scoreboard reffing happening here at Ridder. 3-2 another PPG for MN on a lengthy scrum in front of the UND net.
