Last 3 playoff losses gave up over 300 to Nicholls over 200 against James Madison over 300 against Weber Cannot go deeper without being better against run. Either scheme or recruit or position coach change. 3rd down defense was poor all year. Not sure if it was talent, scheme or position coach. I am certain or at least expect that there will be some type of changes for the next year. Offense controlling the ball was huge this year for helping our D.

What do you guys think? Defense in the same place as our offense was in Rudolph’s last year when we laid an egg to Northern Arizona as our o-coordinator? Do we get a new D coordinator with new ideas. Offense did fine, and we have several pieces returning. Defense was almost like it was under Mussman this season. Sometimes it looks like scheme, other times poor fundamentals. Hopefully transfer portal and in-coming freshman can add depth and talent to our defense.

If I dare to predict, which is the optimistic aggressive (Youngstown) and with confidence (Northern Iowa) games … we can win 38-34. If we play conservative, which most FCS teams do in the playoffs…. 28-41 loss. I’m banking our staff and players are hungry to redeem themselves and win this!

As a former college lineman decades ago, I personally saw nothing wrong. Magg’s movement initially looked running and the player grabbed longer because of movement and momentum made it looked worse in my opinion. This come from a guy who hates DB’s because they talk crap or annoy by kneeing your head as you try to get off the ground from a cut block. They knew we linemen rarely can get revenge in a game. Linebackers and defensive line to me had more respect for each other during a game, because during the course of the game there are opportunities to settle feuds. As to that Happy Thanks Giving and beat Weber on Saturday!

That’s why (in my opinion) offenses and defenses need to play guys (especially with up ceilings) in games even if it is to burn a redshirt. The 40 plus carry days of Phillip Moore are gone. Hard for athletes to stay 2-3 years and play scout team and hope to see the field in jr or sr year. Coaching success is no longer recruiting but also maintaining rosters and building relationships with kids who may go elsewhere (so if they enter the portal they may want to go to the school that showed genuine interest). It will be interesting which coaches adapt and those who do not.

Win this game, it will be a small step into getting respect and great exposure to recruit the athletes we need to take this program to a higher level.

Idaho or Idaho State, don’t know if it is altitude or what, but we have not played well in the state Idaho.

Maybe we need to think outside the box, get some those guys to run track to get them faster. Some of the FBS teams have athletes that do both.

It’s going to be a long 17 hours to see our fate.

Maybe Fargo’s AD will want us in, so if we can win in the first round we play them again.

Hopefully, we do recruit or we can get some through the transfer portal. Consistent winning seasons should help with recruitment.

I’m not referring to the 80’s Bizun, yes they can run spread but it all starts with the run. We are not recruiting/scheming dealing with the physicality and size of their line. Fargo can go I run and QB zone run read. We may have to go with 4 man line or a 4-2. With how our defense been over the past few years against a physical run team has been slow death with run (Nichols, and Spring playoff game) The last few years we have had a decent secondary, however this year it has been uncharacteristically horrid.

I said this a long time ago, we need to do what we did in the 80’s. Develope an offense and Defense that can beat NDSU and recruit players for that scheme to beat them.

Does remind me years ago when they beat Iowa or Iowa State and there was a radio show making fun of them. Several fans made comments about how great they are without realizing it was razzing and in jest.

Which is why UNI still gets love though they have been played inconsistent the past few years.

I have said or posted nothing like that. So don’t say you….secondly, yes it is great about what they (Bizun) have done, but with sport or anything for that matter it is the now. Do posters bring stuff up from the past yes. I do not go on their forum and try to defend UND or bring up the past because it’s their forum. The series has often been in streaks, I just hope it’s not like the drought of 81ish to 1994 type drought.

Similar talk late 80’s early 90’s. Bizun lost their edge or as Rocky said Fat Cat syndrome. I think that is what Bizun fans worry about, is that History may repeat itself.

Keys to win - No turnovers Be aggressive on offense, (does not mean gimmick plays) O-Line needs to A: Get some push with run game and B: protect Tommy especially if 4 man rush Defense: Let’s make sure we get off the field on 3rd down, make them uncomfortable on offense, bend and don’t break! win special teams! Lastly we may give up a big play, if and when that happens the team and staff cannot have a panic attack like 3rd quarter SDSU.

My thinking is, looking at their style, they wanted a running quarterback with a strong arm. Which I think we were thinking of doing before Cedric or what ever his name was, chose not to go to UND.

Joe Glenn led S Dakota over NDSU in Fargo in 2015, why not us. 2015 we went 7-4 and was denied Seven years later We have 7 wins 3 sevens let’s go Lady Luck and let us win in Fargo for our 8th win!

They may….they been blowing out the last 5 opponents. 2pt loss at SDSU, 5 pt loss Weber State, biggest FCS loss 17 to Montana State. 21 pt FBS loss to Cal.
