  1. Might as well offer Urban Meyer a job too :-D
  2. Probably wouldn't want to leave the Flyers to be an AD.
  3. Yeah, my post was merged over from another thread. Admittedly it doesn't make sense here.
  4. If the NCHC didn't take a Power 5 school they won't be taking Oakland anytime soon. I suspect they'd join the WCHA or we could see the CCHA reform IF Oakland actually makes a team. Remember these are only studies at this point.
  5. Right...cause Oakland University is so massive. Having lived near StL...they are ripe for a college team.
  6. I always liked TSgt Robert Carter from the AFROTC Detachment. Then again,I personally knew him so I may be biased.
  7. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4344697-und-athletic-director-brian-faison-retire-dec-31 Good riddance I'd say. I know he did a lot of good for the school too but I'd argue he did a lot more harm than good. Thoughts?
  8. I haven't been able to watch a football game recently until today. Is it just me or our helmets awful? Green helmet with a green logo on one side and a tiny number on the other side. Needs a bigger border around the logo so it doesn't all blend together.
  9. Doesn't have anything to do with the non-hockey teams having lame jerseys with no logo for over a decade. :-)
  10. Having little to no access to the facts, here's what I can say about Kelley. A. He's better then his predecessor B. He was student friendly while I was a campus student, but his popularity with staff amd students took a nose dive in his later years. C. He botched the nickname from start to finish. In the early years, he tried to play it neutral but it was later revealed he was trying to retire the name as quickly as possible. Then there was the nickname committee and vote debacle. The logo design I leave on Schafer. D. While several new buildings were built (with private donations for these projects) and several were renovated, other buildings fell into disrepair. E. Several teams and majors were cut right after his administration. It's conceivable that these could have been avoided for some (likely not all) with better budgeting during his tenure. F. Due to lack of transparency, I don't know how much of C-E are really his fault, as opposed to the fault of state officials. Ultimately I do think he tried to do what he thought was best, but a lot went wrong at the end of his watch and his lack of transparency led to distrust and dislike by students, teachers and alumni alike which makes it hard to see him in a favorable light. In short, I don't expect any alumni to donate money for a Kelley Hall anytime soon.
  11. I think this is also a problem with the Gophers. Lots of in state talent has been going to other Minnesota schools. Most notably UMD
  12. That's true of most of our our sports. How many fans support golf, soccer, tennis, track, swimming and Diving or softball? What gets me is that the hockey team knew the school was in a budget crunch and still had that massive budget when teams across the Red River were equally competitive for a fraction of the cost. As soon as they were no longer declared "safe" they had huge target on their backs and they have no one to blame but their own inept staff.
  13. Well all the more reason for him to leave considering we don't have a team anymore.
  14. NeutralZone rated their recruiting class as 9th best. ASU doesn't want WCHA if they can avoid it. I think Big wants to snipe an NCHC team for their 8th member and both conferences are waiting to see if that happens. Scenario A: NCHC team leaves for Big, ASU fills vacant slot in NCHC B. No NCHC teams leave, ASU joins Big C. NO NCHC team leaves, ASU and one WCHA team joins NCHC, Big stays at 7.
  15. Perhaps. But that could take a decade or more to pan out as they need more actual PAC teams first. The other western conferences offer better opportunities in the near term.
  16. Perhaps, but Atlantic Hockey is even less worthy. I suppose they could play in the NCHC and compete with the other CO teams instead of an Ohio team but that's also unlikely to happen.
  17. I know why this won't happen, but it would really be better for AF to join the WCHA and then just play a non conference series against Army.
  18. Let's be honest, even with the college players (plus a few recently retired players or players whose owners let them go) the US and Canada teams will still have some pretty competitive teams.
  19. Sadly I haven't been able to attend a game in person since the new name was adopted (Texas is pretty far away), so I can't comment much on how persistent the booing is (although I could occasionally hear it on the TV), or which teams have fostered the best environment, but in terms of support, I'm pretty sure the athletes are smart enough to realize that fans are booing the name, not them or their performance.
  20. So where was this outrage when we were still the Fighting Sioux and only the hockey teams wore the logo?
  21. Well as a current MS student and BS grad I would have thought the $80K (rough estimate) I've invested on my two degrees might have warranted a vote. I'm not sure what went wrong with the committee. They repeatedly ignored what polls indicated that most people wanted. Rumor has it Kelley appointed a lot of PC minded members but I'm not sure how true that is.
  22. For the record, one can accept the change and move on while still recognizing that the NCAA/UND administration have mishandled pretty much every step of the process. We can still support the school but that doesn't mean we have to agree with their logo or funding decisions. Most people I know, fall into this category.
  23. I think the school should have road out the "No Name" policy for longer. Both sides were moderately happy with it for the time being. But no...the administration(s) had to put fuel on the fire. First with the nickname committee, then with the terrible logo. But fires aside, the fans did submit some truly unique names. How did names like Green Hawks or Sundogs* ever get past the initial cut? *As a meteorologist I liked this name, as a fan I think it was terrible. No one besides Hawaii wants to be named after a rainbow.
  24. I agree ...you think they'd be able to realize that in times of tight budgets, some things need to go such as the $25K banquet and weekly awards
  25. This was one criticism I had with cutting Swimming and Diving to begin with. The school will likely still keep the pool because most 4 year colleges have pools plus the community seems to be pushing them that way too (not sure if they'll help with the budget though). All I can say for sure is that being from Minnesota, not having somewhere to swim would have given me pause on choosing UND.
