So, Schlossman isn’t going to ask / pose the question about Berry’s future? At least Miller asked Bubba following the Illinois State game. I hope more and more realize what a disservice he provides to his readers. Can you ask Chaves a question? It’s gotten completely embarrassing.
-
Worth noting, this is not normal. Completely different than any other year I’ve seen.
-
Fascinating to see how much is BS vs legit. By all accounts, this off-season will be a complete disaster if Berry is retained. Only chance they have is to move quickly from him. Start the clock at 48 hours.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
AJS replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Just think, Croal could have been a regular as well. 27 had zero goals and contributed very little after the first month of the season. If true, multi-layered screw up by Berry. Cannot emphasize how bad he is at this. -
2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

I don’t ever recall an off-season with so much uncertainty. Worst case scenario is coaching staff stays intact and key players transfer. Ideally, news comes out soon that Berry will no longer be the coach and they are opening up to a national search. Timing isn’t great to get it done before portal opens. Players want to win, hope being they will wait for new hire and hear from him before making a decision. Things just don’t look good right now. Need to make a coaching staff change. -
Berry went full Bubba. He’s gone.
-
Just another in a long line of Freshman who should be playing, but Berry ends up going with less talented upper classman.

By the numbers. Spring 2025 roster #'s by position. 87 total. How many on the Spring roster do you think are going to find themselves in the portal? What positions are they a bit bloated? Where do they need to add? I'm hoping we see +/- 7. Position Count OL 18 DB 13 DL 12 WR 12 LB 8 RB 5 NI 4 QB 4 TE 3 K 2 LS 2 P/K 2 FB/TE 1 P 1

This coaching staff could sound the alarm, like many others have done. Simply stating, we need money to compete. I'm basing this off Schlossman's last interview where he discussed this. We are talking low 6 figures. Even on the elite teams, not everyone is getting that. You need someone that is promoting the 1883 collective. Does anyone think that they couldn't raise 100K for Perron? Tough to do when your coaching up to this point has done absolutely nothing to promote it, but hypothetically, it should be doable.

Yes, but not all in the same way. I just keep telling myself wait and see. It's obvious that Berry has downgraded this program, it's no longer one of the elites. There's still a part of you that doesn't want to believe it. That would be the final nail.
-
I might be a bit naive, but I also think there would be time to rectify the situation. Schlossman discussed this possibility in a podcast last week. IF it happens, it should not come to a shock to anyone, especially the coaching staff. I'll also say and will continue to say, if a key player transfers out to an elite program, it will be a black eye for this program. It will also 100% be on the coaching staff, most of the blame being on the current state of the program, but also for their lack of push for the 1883 collective. It would be inexcusable.

By the numbers. UND vs FCS scholarship opponents. Comparing Spring 2025 vs Fall 2024 rosters. Turnover per team. My thought would be successful teams the previous year would want low turnover. NDSU / USD for example, should be able to reload. SDSU / Montana on the other hand, a bit more of an unknown. Without getting into the weeds (impact players vs non-scholarship, ect), won't tell the entire story clearly, but thought it was interesting. School # Murray State 66 SDSU 48 Montana 43 SIU 43 YSU 41 Indiana State 39 Portland State 32 NDSU 30 UNI 29 UND 28 USD 24

By the numbers. 2024 Fall Roster vs 2025 Spring Roster. 28 players who were on Fall 2024 and not on Spring 2025. Those who were out of eligibility in bold. DB's: (3) Hembry, Davis, Dixon DL: (5) Cetak, Beach, Schultz, Teiken, Orlando FB/TE: (3) Ihry, Norby, Vaughn LB: (9) Gerhardt, Bettis, Navratil, Stec, Baretz, Doell, Boecker, Kelley, Pedigo OL: (2) Folland, Kuntz QB: (1) Hentges RB: (2) Hunt, Smith WR: (3) Belquist, Kupfer, Schaffner

A Berry coached team losing Friday of the Frozen Faceoff is a yearly tradition. Not this year. With some level of uncertainty surrounding this coaching staff, a growing level of displeasure from the fanbase, this is the year the Friday streak ends. Followed up by winning Saturday night and securing the automatic bid. We'll see everyone in Fargo!

2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
AJS replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Two games. I’m starting to look at it from a seeding potential. Can they pass Mankato? Move them up to 14 seed. Without Q winning ECAC. The most UND thing possible given coaching situation would be to break through and win the Frozen Faceoff this year. I think it happens. -
Didn’t notice at the time, but Teiken wasn’t mentioned in the 360 preview either. I will say, better before Spring ball. Any other big names? Teiken going to portal out? Done with football? @MinnDak you did say before that you didn’t expect any other starters / close to starters to leave. Clearly, you meant from the spring roster (which a guy like Teiken wouldn’t be on)?
-
@MinnDak anyone leave the last few weeks that would have been an impact player this year?
-
I got it. You could also sit Komzak, move 29 to extra skater. Move Croal to 29 spot. Play 29 on the PP only or if need be, alternate 5 on 5 shifts w/ 27. Ultimately, same purpose. Too little too late? Maybe, but could go along way. My #1 frustration with this year is the special treatment this incredibly mediocre super special senior class has received. Is 27 still on the PP? He hasn’t scored since November. Edit: or better yet. @hockeytherapy13 mentioned. Sir Monty, Komzak as 3rd pair. Make 29 the 13F. Only play him on the PP.
-
That’s the correct call if you’re basing playing time on actual play. Put 29 as the 13th skater, keep him on the PP. Alternate with 27 for shifts every once and awhile.

GF Herald, UND hockey podcast with Schlossman
-
Listened twice. Good conversation, happy they are sounding the alarms. Reiterating, you need a coach who makes NIL a top priority.
-
Gage asked Schlossman if there's a chance one of the top end players that's supposed to come back transfers to a different school. Schlossman - "Oh yeah, that's the new era of college hockey". Summary being larger schools with more money are throwing money at players. The timing of this is too good though, just look back to earlier today. I believe this to be fact. Once a player is committed and on roster (we are not talking recruiting battles), unless something else is going on, they would not leave UND just for more money. Perron (for example) will not go to Michigan, just because they can write a bigger check. It's so unfortunate, but so unsurprising that's the narrative Schlossman is going with. As I've mentioned multiple times. All Berry has to do is sound the alarm. "We'll lose players if we don't get more $ in the collective". I bet that would work getting an uptick in donations! To your back and forth @.357, you saying it's not as daunting & threating to smaller schools per that conversation was false. Schlossman did mention NCHC schools are worried about it. We've seen it in the last few years, really affect recruiting the top end guys. Where I will completely agree with you, is UND specifically is in a very unique position with its large, passionate fanbase. I do think they can compete, but they need someone who makes fundraising for the collective a top priority.
