  1. You sure would think the IAC would have to take a serious look at WH because of the huge costs involved, but Pres. Kennedy says no. Sure one can make the argument that the building expenses are there anyway because of MH in The Ralph, but the rest of the expenses in WH are still huge. Something going on here that isn't in the open yet? Another point. Sports became a part of college life shortly after the U opened it's doors . Sports were never started as a way for the U to make money, there were a whole bunch of other reasons, of which most still hold true today!
  2. OK, Pres. Kennedy is already making decisions for the committee. Wow! Now, each coach of a team on a potential chopping block is to give a speech to IAC & the Pres. Again, I say, why have the committee?? This stuff is going to go viralllllllllllllllllllllllll.
  3. I understand, just showing that there are no RE property taxes, just those specials.
  4. GF County web site property search. 1301 N COLUMBIA RD GRAND FORKS ND 58203 6,504,692 sq ft parcel of land. http://www.co.grand-forks.nd.us/BYNAME44.HTM?property=44313800001000 No RE property taxes on The Ralph, Bookstore, UND Clinic. $51,000 in unpaid specials.
  5. WH is not on the chopping block. Interesting development! UND is in budget cuts? If this committee is to look at cuts and they can't suggest cutting WH to save money, why are they meeting? Goes with possibility that their is an AGREEMENT that the BUILDING was built to house 2 hockey teams for 30 years. Maybe Eddie ran out of time on athletics, and this was handed over to Kennedy, and there's something much bigger going on, FBS football, B1G hockey?????
  6. Agree with all of this. REA was built to house UND hockey (men's and women's). Just hope UND can run it as well when the 14 years are up.
  7. I would think to some degree. We need to have college hockey regionals on college rinks to bring up attendance. Then, we don't worry what NDSU thinks?
  8. Now, that's really funny. Good 1! Enjoy, while it lasts! The B1G will play great hockey some day. Keep in mind, outside of UND, the B1G still drew a lot of fans, compared to the rest of college hockey. Don't be fooled by a few pictures of the games that looked pretty empty.
  9. Only if it's not lead based paint? Apparently there is white paint with the water in the vials and some vials have more paint than others.
  10. I know Lowell, top quality guy!
  11. 10,500 and the students sticking the game out a little better.
  12. Maybe you should remember ------------------------------ to take a class to help with your sense of humor?
  13. This reminds of the Mn Gof fan that posted in a gopher post last spring that every time he hears Fighting Hawks - he throws up a little in his mouth.
  14. UND President Kennedy has the potential to be a Clifford. So far I'm judging him as a very smart individual with a desire to do the right thing, Kennedy has this committee in place to get information, then he makes a decision. Well, maybe the kind of information he wants, can come forward more easily and accurately through this committee than if he went around and tried to get it himself. Also, a way to get some of this information out to public and let everyone chew on this before a decision is made, soften the blow so to say. So, chew quickly because this is getting done now and only once. He realizes this has to be done expertly and in a way not to hurt support to the U or in at least a minimal way. This is especially a challenge at this U because of the long process of the nickname change. Important to find correct cost of each sport. Some individual athletic budgets maybe should have expenditures in them that they don't or vise versa, and that could be between the individual sports or even with the U in general. Just some examples; Utilities, Police for traffic at games, salaries, summer camps, snow removal, grounds care, building maintenance, advertising, and etc. What funds does and can each sport bring to the table, advertising, maybe also weighing in donations and potential donations? Are we in the right conferences? Shape and need of facilities? And so on, like most of which has been mentioned in this thread. This next point is the reason I'm commenting on this thread. The U is unique in that it has the Ralph Engelstad, Inc. on it's soil. Built on campus with a Agreement that the improvements on the land are to be given to UND/state of ND after 30 years. Till then they (the Ralph) run and own the building, house various sporting teams, hold various events, sell tickets and for other U sports too, have their own employees, and etc. There are close to 20 home games a year with something just under 12K attendance for men's hockey, plus concessions. For my tickets there is a base ticket price plus donation, so funds may be directed in different directions? Understanding there is a student section, is that way over a half $million taken in per game? Compare that to five home football games. How does this committee ask and get the numbers and information it needs? Is there in that Agreement that the Ralph is to host the UND men's hockey and women's to be hockey teams for 30 years????? That be a game changer!
  15. Yes, that was the game, I was going to mention it as the Alabama Birmingham game but wasn't sure so I left that out. I remember fans near us in the stands really complained how their feet we getting cold, if they didn't have warm boots on.
  16. I went to a very COLD playoff game at Memorial Stadium one Thanksgiving weekend years ago and we sat on those frozen aluminum benches and our feet were on the cold cement. Bought back memories of the old Barn. I sat in a seat that was actually a seat number over from my numbered seat, because most people were really bundled up with coveralls, parkas, air force parkas, snowmobile suits, orange hunting clothes, and/or etc. Fans on the ends of a row were forced to sit on the steps. Lots of smuggled in cold medicine, just like the Barn.
  17. That's pretty good guys!
  18. These types of games are not easily forgotten. What a great come back victory, and twice in a row over SD at the Alerus! Can you imagine what it would of be like on this thread, if all the fans stayed till the end and we lost. I'll take the W. Maybe that's what motivated the team, we'll see how the season goes.
  19. Sure some fans had to leave early for various reasons. Most people like to watch a good game, some fans just taught it wasn't going to be good at the end. The game production personal/announcer at the Alerus could of reminded the crowd at halftime what happened the last time SD was in the GF? Or a few film highlights on the screen from that game could of helped?
  20. There's been record crops from Texas to Nebraska. Large inventories of commodities. These commodity prices are in a three year low and lower this year than in the last two. Oil has it's large inventories and also at low prices. This could take a few years for ND to get financially healthy again. Some hard decisions will have to be made by the legislature.
  21. I was going more in the other direction with my comments, like the Mayville's could be closed with more cuts to higher ed.
  22. When the ND State Legislature meets in January, there will be some very serious discussions regarding funding on higher education. ND's 2 largest economies are still not doing very well, and until prices go up for oil and farm commodities the state will not have the funds like they used to for higher education.
  23. Wow, the Football program just came alive!!!!!!!!
  24. HUGE WIN. Some teams know how to win, they could give the Vikings a hand full of pointers!
