I have accepted the fact that a lot of MplsBison posts are generally not correct. "More expensive Labor"? I think not. North Dakota is known for its "cheap labor." As our representatives usually use it as a selling point.

I was trying to answer the simple question you asked. Forgive me for assuming but I thought you might have already knew the obvious answers: This will help recruiting in the Twin Cities area. This will help promote the University of North Dakota in a unique way to people outside their usual demographics meaning possible increased enrollment. It will give the administration insight into future games there with other teams. Have a Great Day!

Here's a crazy idea...It might be fun for the fans to attend.

Reminds me of the time John Kerry posed for the cameras on a snowboard.

The internet is going to change the world for the better by taking out the bias Mainstream Media and replacing it with the truth.

Not to mention, I would guess he would make a lot more $$$$$ at UND.

I guess what I am saying is why do they have to guarantee anyone anything? The current system doesn't guarantee anything to anyone the way it is. Correct me if I am wrong, but in IAA (FCS) postseason play conferences championships mean little. It is the top rated teams (some sort of poll - no real autobids) that get into the playoffs? Why does there have to be this notion of "autobids." Because like you said earlier, a strong team could just transfer to that weak "autobid" conference and make the playoffs every year. (NSIC in D2 ) I think conferences are/should be just schedule alliances which gives its top member "bragging" / title rights: Conference Champs.

Does WVU or Hawaii have a chance at a National Championship right now? No. As it sits right now nothing would change for them. Except a possibility of a greater chance to win a championship down the road. I would gladly tell the Big East commissioner they suck. They indeed already have agreed to the system (the BCS). Like "sioooux" said same formula except top 8 teams play for a national title instead of 2. Sure there will still be controversy. You can almost never totally eliminate controvery. The key is there will be far less controversy. *as Sicakota saids "Show me the money" or the more boring version "follow the money" : I think you could still have each game named some sort of "bowl game." I don't believe you would actually be losing money anywhere. The other crappy teams can still play in their useless "we won this bowl" bowlgame. The money would come from all the talk and excitement of the upsets and the possibly of more games = $$$$.

What I am saying is: why are you assuming these things? Why do you believe since Ralph didn't give UND the money to build an arena, a future contributor to a football stadium will do the same thing? We all know UND right now does not own the Ralph. Ralph Engelstad leased land from UND and build an amazing hockey arena on it. You are assuming I am saying this is obviously wrong. You can't prove this. You can't say that a philanthropist will not give The University of North Dakota $1,000,000,000,000 with the simple notion: "Build yourself a football stadium. Here have my money UND it is yours. All I ask is you build yourself a nice stadium." In this case UND would indeed own the football stadium. Please stop spreading your statement as if it were gospel which actually deviates from the truth.
-
I didn't say one was going to. I simply pointed that your assumption of was wrong and that UND could indeed easily "own the facility." Not that it really matters one way or the other. But since you asked. What makes me think a donor is going to give UND money to help build them a football stadium? Personally, I have no idea the motives behind why people with a lot of money decide to become philanthropists. If I were to guess, I am going to say that person likes UND and especially likes UND football. Maybe was even a former player and enjoys seeing the team and program succeed. Just a guess. Any other intrinsic questions?
-
No. Ralph never gave UND money to build a hockey arena.
-
You played football in HS? Thanks for the laugh. jk bud.

Then there is the other way of thinking. If by some miracle (I wouldn't be surprised cause its already happened at UND and we are now seeing all those successful business majors UND has produced) someone gives UND $200 Million and tells them here: "have my money and build a sweet on campus football stadium." UND will indeed own the facility.

It is a lot easier than picking out the best 2 teams in the country!!! There would be a lot less controversy with a 8 team playoff system instead of a 2 team playoff system!! It's pretty simple. Top 8 BCS teams go as it sits now with its current format instead of the top 2. We all would have to watch those great games at the top 8 teams battle it out watching some great upsets along the way. The possibilities:

Here is a crazy thought. Denver is the best team in the league. Might win it. Maybe a National Championship. We just lost to them 1-0? These two teams could be playing for a national championship later this year (again) and we might split with them....early in the season. (later will be domination ) I am not yet worried. If we split next weekend I am worried as Minnesota is a bottom-tier team right now. But anything is bound to happen in a rival game! If UND sweeps, look for that to be the start of the upswing.
-
Do you really think UND is going to hire an architectural firm to draw images for fun? (like they did) I am glad UND is not hiding the fact that they want to do things the "right" way so UND can have the resources to be successful!

Or a more viable option (one hopes for at least the future) would be for the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux to set aside a certain small amount of money each year from the millions they take in from Fighting Sioux athletics....(Heck how many Fighting Sioux club members would complain if they had to pay an extra $10 or so to watch a guaranteed televised playoff games?) equipped with that money they say "Hey KVLY/WDAZ/Fox put together a contract to show this playoff game. You can sell advertising to make money, use the radio feed to save on the number of people being sent there, and pay to use a the local areas production crew (in this case GVSU's).....if non of those cost saving techniques work. We will have to use the fund set aside for this. We (UND) will pay you to televise this game...or to cover any shortcomings you may have in your contracts. Or better yet, I hear that the University of North Dakota even has its own TV station on in Grand Forks on Channel 3. I would also be willing to bet some media type UND students and/or alumni that would also be willing to use their own time and money to go to Michigan to watch their beloved UND athletics and report it back to the masses helping to even further save money. Sounds like a very viable solution to a not to complicated problem that we at the largest and oldest university in The Dakotas have to "worry" about year after year. And if there is a flaw in my "system/solution" what are the ways that it can be improved upon to help make it a non-issue to help make this (televising all playoff games via FSSN or at least GF area) a non-issue in the future?
-
Will this be because of possible public outcry (aka what the people want that might not happen otherwise without the emails and calls?) or..... because business (TV station/s) sees a profit (advertising) or goodwill? And if it is because of the first one and even if they both contribute...wouldn't it always be a better bet to do everything in the peoples power to get as many games televised per year? (the attendance argument not withstanding. Because the simple fact is everything has a consequence: bad and good).
-
Can we get more crazy now?
-
Or you could support businesses that support UND and go to Joe Sensors with 4 locations in the twin cities and watch the game! http://www.sensers.com/ Scroll to bottom of page they even has a Fighting Sioux Sports Network logo proudly displayed as one of their main channels they display.

At least you don't fight it. Everyone here is somewhat geeky....it is after all now becoming hip.
