If UND had a "Redhawks" style stadium on campus, preferably nicer weather in the spring, the university promoted it and more people went, UND was winning a bunch of games, ....UND wouldnt' be in this situation. People in GF barely know UND has a baseball team. Nobody goes, nobody talks about it.

Wasn't comparing Baseball vs Hockey nationally. I was comparing UND baseball vs UND womens hockey. Big Difference. UND women playing for a national championship on CBS will get the UND name out there than those who are die hard sports fans who watch ESPN constantly (and are bombarded with every athletic teams name constantly). "More positives" are much more than people watching on TV. It's also about giving the students at UND what they want ("promotions" aside), students want to watch womens hockey more than UND baseball. More people seemed at UND to care about having those three players than anything baseball related and that's what matters most. UND womens hockey has much more upside than UND baseball in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Womens National Hockey Championship was on CBS (the uno). Taped of course, but no one knew that. Still cool to see. I believe Easter Sunday morning so they got pretty dang good ratings IIRC. It's hard to deny there is a lot more positives for womens hockey than baseball at UND.

Baseball coach at UND:
-
His base is $280,000. Grows to $406,000 if all incentives are met. I'm sure he got close to it. Probably only missed the Frozen Faceoff wins incentives, which would be minor compared to the National Championship.

Bad timing (and misfortunes) of it all....overspending. Then budget cuts. And need to find money for the new "Full cost of Attendance." Here's a recent picture taken inside the capital in Bismarck: :

Idk, I was just helping prove your point. Not only at the time did they increase the womens scholarships (hockey) but decreased mens (cut wrestling). As UNDBIZ pointed out, the lady on facebook proudly claims they were going to sue the school. Need to try that prong thingy NDSU uses.
-
And have more scholarships with mens wrestling.
-
....was there any possible way to avoid it or "lessen the blow"?
-
Yes, I also wouldn't have a problem with cutting womens hockey (and whatever mens sports) yet still be in compliance with the conferences and Title IX by spending the least amount of money so they can increase the budgets and strengthen the "core sports" on campus that most people care about M/W Basketball, Mens Hockey, Football, Volleyball....big drop off after that tier at UND. I'm sure Brian Faison knows more about the situation than I (we) do. I like the guy. He gets a lot of grief from this site (who at UND doesn't), but now he can add 2016 Mens Ice Hockey National Champs to his hat (resume).

Few years ago I thought the gates were always open and people could walk in (and some brought beer).
-
Crazy... I guess they are already full invested in Womens Hockey. There seemed to be a lot of people before today on this site who were A OKAY with getting rid of baseball at UND. And if I guess more people would have rather cut baseball than womens hockey. (I don't care about either but I can see the ceiling definitely being higher for womens hockey....the twins brought quite a bit of excitement to the program and students can walk right over to watch a game). Not only is it the budget cuts but it's about making the other sports stronger having to offer FCOA to keep up with the (Brian) Joneses.

UND or the Ralph? The Ralph can do what they want with the money they get (unfortunate how all that works out right now if you ask me) but I'm not surprised they'd spend it on trying to get people into their building (more money on concessions, beer, merchandise, etc).
-
Budget divided by attendance comparison please?
-
Doesn't womens hockey outdraw UND baseball at home?
-
Ya'll know virtually no one here has or would go to a UND baseball game, but have or thought about attending a womens hockey game...and as SiouxVolley pointed out, might not be anytime soon, but what just happened on Monday could happen for the women (or the Lady Hawks as I know somepeople love to call them ) someday. The bar was set pretty low, but the timing is pretty bad as the baseball team probably finally felt they were getting some positive recognition lately and feeling pretty good about themselves. But reality is we live in a cold climate.

Stuff like this going around Facebook:

Here's the embedded video of Drake throwing his stick at me, which hit me, but I'm trying to record and had no idea was coming...meanwhile you'll hear me ask, "is that a normal thing?" because minutes before this the lady seen at the end of the video was like "if we get drakes stick the answer is yes." I was thinking to myself: "that's an odd marriage answer" haha...but afterwards told me he wanted to name their upcoming baby Drake...and you'll hear him claim "That counts! That counts!" haha. (her and the younger gentleman had a two second tug of war, but he wanted it more.) Mayor Brown might be a little extra busy in about nine months.

If one were to read the Herald they'd think, "oh low oil (and commidity) in North Dakota, no more UND baseball....wonder how they survived before all that oil money? They've been playing baseball at UND since 1956! Times must be tough up there right now."

Gotta love how UND just win a championship and the hottest topic is who's leaving UND early.

Winning a Natty ... what would it mean for Fighting Sioux
Cratter replied to NoiseInsideMyHead's topic in UND Nickname
No doubt he's a "Sioux" fan, just saying that didn't stop him from wearing his National Championship Fighting Hawks shirt after the game. -

Isn't the NHL and farm teams already getting bloated with "talented players?" I'd have to imagine there's more players entering than exiting most years...and will keep getting harder to crack a NHL regularily as we've seen pretty good players spend most of their careers in the AHL.
