Allow me to be blunt: Hakstol signed a new deal (to 2017 I think) as his father-in-law stepped away from heading the Alumni Foundation. I think everyone, including Dave, knows he needs to hang a green banner (north end rafters at REA) under this deal or (a) he'll be confirmed as UND's "Doug Woog" and (b) he won't be signing a new deal. He's setting his defensive corps for the future as they take longer to mature. The forwards are lined up. Dave knows. He'll execute, or he won't.

The senior class is four guys: two are transfers, another can't stick in the line-up, and the last is one of the calendar-youngest captains I can recall. And they we have an underperforming junior class. There. I said it. Un. Der. Per. For. Ming. Under. Performing. We need the freshmen to get to semester break, because there are no freshmen after semester break if they are doing it right.

If guys on scholarship leave, that opens up a scholarship for the new coach to get a guy that buys into his system. Plus, you lose a guy that wasn't bought in. I'm trying to figure out how that is bad.

The BU coach basically said he was the beneficiary of "home cooking" officiating Friday night during the pre-game interview with Tim Hennessy. I guess there were leftovers.

Our preseason #1 center on the shelf, along with both (yes, both, as in 2) senior forwards so you're playing a fourth line of two defensemen and spotting in a center (based on who's got gas after all the PKs). And then take away St. Clair to boot. The state of play was better tonight. They do better when the defensemen jump in and mobilize (see: Stecher on Tambellini goal). This team will not get better until they clean up the crap penalties. But that is reparable, but they do need to stop digging the hole both at the game and the season levels.

By style I mean methodology. UND is playing a tight system in all zones. What I saw of SCSU and UMD they are focusing on defense and breakouts but are much more free-form on the offensive end. UND's style is more like how NHL teams do it. But I'm not sure that works against the wide-open approach many are using in the college game.

Four seniors: - a transfer goalie - a transfer third-liner from SCSU - a forward who can't stick in the line-up - a captain who is younger that one of the freshmen defensemen beside him Seven juniors: - a late summer add after a surprise non-arrival - MacMillan - a defenseman who has never really taken off - a forward who shows flashes, then gets hurt - a sixth or seventh defenseman - a forward who missed most of last season - a grind-line center Throw in seven sophomores and eight freshmen. College hockey has become an upperclassman's game. I'm not seeing them with this group. Please stand by.

Could it be that recruits found this forum and somehow determined that the Mussman regime was on the hot seat? Could it be that the 60 or so you reference are letting the dust settle before making a decision? I know it's crazy, but folks do like some level of certainty when making big decisions. If they'd all have committed elsewhere already, then I'd be concerned.
