Allow me to say it was a good win and one more thing: UND had the chance to let another game get away. They didn't let it happen this time. The win over Montana is nice; how they didn't roll over this time, and came back to win, is more important.

The solution to "get students to show and stay" is easy (and I know it'll irk some of you): Give out student tickets to the next home hockey series at the end of home football games.

I wish I'd kept the quote, but back about 2005 an associate athletic director at Duke, when asked about the forming of superconferences and the potential for them to break away from the NCAA to form their own association, said that the NCAA is a voluntary organization*, meaning schools don't have to be a member and could leave at any time to do their own thing. The notion of the "above the line" or "top 5" BCS conferences going their own way is not that outlandish. But remember, money, not what is best for college athletics, will drive all the decisions. I know someone who advocates taking all "hard plastic" out of football pads and mandating that all pads have to be made exclusively of cotton, wool, or Kevlar fabric. Helmets would become more like hockey helmets (more to protect your head when your fall, less as a solid projectile weapon).
