The worst thing about this:

1-Eight people on the SBoHE are making this decision with their action.

2-Eight people on the Standing Rock council are making this decision with their inaction

Both groups are ignoring the vast majority in this decision. These are sad days for our country, indeed.

Please remember, the majority of American Indians wanted the name to stay. If you are mad, direct it towards the State Board of Higher Education, and the Standing Rock Tribal council members who voted against having a vote.

And there's the problem with this country. The people who represent areas, in this case Grand Forks, don't vote with what the representatives of their area wanted and instead on their own.

How he didn't second the vote is mind-boggling.

Kelley said that people "all over the country are watching to see how we handle this," including thousands of UND alumni.

Noting that many alumni are passionate about the logo and nickname, he said they also have proven to be "very resilient."

I'll remember that when I get a call or mail from the Alumni Foundation begging for money. :silly:

For the hell of it, I just bought another black RBK hockey jersey. I figure it'll last and appreciate in value over time.

So FWB tell me how this change has impacted your life? Do you feel more respected? Do you feel like you got one up on "the man"? Just curious. You have waited so long for this and now the time has come you must be profoundly changed. UND no longer has a proud sioux mascot and I am sure this makes your life so much better.

I graduated from UND this past December and am a proud Fighting Sioux alum. While I plan to remain a fan of UND athletics, I am heartbroken to see my school's leadership so excited to be retiring the nickname. I do not plan on donating to the University for the foreseeable future, and I will refuse to purchase any merchandise with a new nickname and logo. I love the Fighting Sioux nickname and I also am a huge fan of the inter-locking ND logo and will likely have merchandise that sports those two logos. I can't speak for any other alumni, but I am not as upset at the loss of the nickname as I am at our leaders and how they dismissed the nickname so eagerly...and all for a conference that we don't really want to be in anyways!!! The Summit is a crap conference and the AD considers it a backup plan for the real goal of getting straight into the Missouri Valley Conference. All things considered, this is just proof that democracy does not work, the loudest contingencies are the ones who get their way, no matter how small they are....

I just read this on Brad's blog: "I'm told that UND will still be the Fighting Sioux for next season."

What's the point?!? Really!!! If you're gonna retire it, retire it! There is no need to drag it out another season. I have been and will always be a die hard Sioux fan and I never wanted to lose our logo and nickname, but come on. If it's retired, than it's retired. What a bunch of freakin idiots! To me, this is a slap in the face to those of us who have loved and respected the name and logo for so many years. Lame.

I hope the members of the Board look in the mirror and try and remember when leaders were Men.

Whatever. don't matter. I being of free mind and will am choosing not to retire the name....ever. :silly:

To be honest, it was an uphill battle the whole way. The nickname was doomed from the get go by the so called "authorities" on the subject. They played our game knowing damn well the whole time they would retire it. By the end it wasn't about what's right and what's wrong, what's hostile and abusive and what's not. It came down to a few people with a vendetta against the name. As much as I wanted to keep the name, i always felt that we stood no chance. One thing I can say to all the Sioux fans is

DON'T LET THE HATERS GET TO YOU, DON'T LET THE TROLLS GET UNDER YOUR SKIN. HOLD YOU HEAD HIGH AND BE BETTER THAN THEM, THEY'RE JUST ANTS. LET THEM SAY WHAT THEY WILL AND IGNORE THEM. A TRUE SIOUX FAN IS BETTER THAN THAT. STAY CLASSY SIOUX FANS!!! FIGHTING SIOUX FOREVER!!!

Exactly. I don't blame SR as much as I blame SBoHE and weasel #1 (Kelley) and weasel #2 (Faison). They just perpetuated this "controversy" for the next 30 years a la Dartmouth. Great job guys! As someone else pointed out, SR said, "will you respect and follow what we say if we put in the effort?" SBoHE tells them and 98% of UND alumni and all of the NA's (Spirit Lake, Archie Fool Bear, etc) to pound sand.

Already the "happy talk" and cajoling/positioning for "healing." God, this guy's a tool.
