Next year's roster

Looks like you already got this but here is what I have assuming the Hamilton thing is true (Which I personally have no reason to believe or doubt).

Goal (3):

Philippe Lamoureux

Aaron Walski

Anthony Grieco

Defense (8):

Robbie Bina

Taylor Chorney

Brian Lee (will he stay, we should know by June 1st?, yeah right...)

Joe Finley

Zach Jones

Chay Genoway (will he play forward if Lee stays?)

Derrick LaPoint

Jake Marto

Forward (15):

Rylan Kaip

Kyle Radke

TJ Oshie

Ryan Duncan

Andrew Kozek

Ryan Martens

Brad Miller

Matt Watkins

Chris VandeVelde

Darcy Zajac

Michael Forney (will he be healthy enough to play?)

Brad Malone

Evan Trupp

Brett Hextall (Is he still a 2007?)

Matt Frattin (does this speak to Hamilton or the health of Forney?)

By my math that is 15 forwards, that is one extra line. Yikes I would love to watch practice on a regular basis.

You don't play hard you sit. Won't take much to motivate the team this season.

I'm sure the coaches would rather have Genoway play D - why waste a year of experience playing the hardest postition in the toughest league in the country. I'm sure they projected one of their highly drafted D would have left by now.

Skills wise I think where ever Chay plays he is going to put up the points.

My predicted 2007-2008 roster: ...

D: Chorney, Jones, Lee, Finley, Bina, Genoway, Marto, LaPoint

At risk of repeating myself, a year from now we could be looking at a returning defense made up of: Jones, Genoway, Marto, LaPoint.

There are enough forwards for 2007-2008 (see my predicted list).

Let Chay develop at defense. He'll have to log a ton of hours there in 2008-2009 so best learn now.

One extra line on the roster (injuries, competition) has been that way as long as I can remember.

The normal shape I've seen over time has been,

Game day line-up: 12 forwards, 6 defense, 2 goalies.

Team roster: 15 forwards, 8 defense, 3 goalies.

i think chay has already proven in 1 season he can play eijther or when need be and is good at both. if lee leaves then he stays at D but if not you play him at forward at lapoint will not be sitting. i really dot think its that big of a deal for chay either way. very nice player to have that can play both very well.

As far as game day rosters go Hakstol seems to run with three goalies,12 fowards and six defense, why not dress an extra foward or defenseman instead of the third goalie? This would help if someone gets injured during the game or doesn't perform that night.

i see 3 goalies maybe at home sometimes and usually never on the road as they usually travel 2 goalies that dress. not sure if its the same as the NHL but there you can only dress 20 players which is the usual 12 forwards, 6 D and 2 goalies

Most of us (me included) assume Oshie and Duncan will play on the same line.

For fun I thought I'd shake things up a bit:

Frattin, Trupp, Oshie (If Frattin can score like Eidsness says...)

Duncan, VandeVelde, Forney (Assuming Forney's healed up and ready to go)

Malone, Watkins, Zajac (Malone and Watkins are 2 guys that can work the boards, we know Zajac can score)

Kozek, Kaip, Radke

Martens, Miller, Hextall

nice lines, although there is no way i break up duncan and oshie, the 3rd player that earns a spot on that line could have a career year. i would move radke down and insert miller to the 4th line. didnt zajac have half of his goals in 1 game  i say he puts up 10 goals and 15 assists this year. kozek really needs to break out this season and yes forney is the wildcard, we can pretty much count him as a freshman in a way so im escited to see what he brings IF hes healthy now.

I like these lines. I don't know if Oshie and Duncan would get broken up, but if they did, this seems like a good arrangement.

I like it, but I really wish Kozek would get a more offensive oppurtunity.

I would guess Kozek would get a chance to prove himself again. He got a fair shot on scoring lines at the beginning of last year. However, after the friday night Mankato game there were 3 of us hockey novices who agreed that he should be replaced on a scoring line as he appeared so ineffective. The following night that's exactly what happened.

I like Kozek. I would LOVE to put him on that top line and let him shoot holes in the net. But he has to show it on the ice and so far I don't think he's made the most of his opportunity.

Hextall in 2008.

The Hex is back

“I’m excited about coming back to Penticton for another year,” said Hextall. “I love it there. I want to be one of the go to guys on the hockey club.”

The 19-year-old was expected to begin his scholarship at the University of North Dakota in the fall. However, he’ll now be able to further prepare for his college career by playing one more season with the Vees.
