Have not heard much about it - But was that nerve wracking or what :glare:

& what a great job they all did :silly:

I was afraid they may run out of gas after that

Can they or do they use Oxygen in games in Colo. ?

I died when Radke hit Johnson. I don't know what he was thinking but you just can't make that hit in a game like this and at that time of the game, etc. I felt it was a critical period of the game, potentially the outcome in the balance. If the Sioux kill it maybe they take the momentum and take the game. If the Gophers score, maybe it's lights out.

The Sioux had to work hard and expend energy to kill all 5 minutes, but when you look at how they did for most of those 5 minutes, they gassed an equal number of gopher players who had to chase the puck or try and make something click.

After the kill the Sioux seemed to carry play for a bit, and forced a penalty. Right with the script (taking the momentum from killing the major penalty). I had a feeling they might score (also following the script) but it wasn't to be. And then when Bina took the next penalty and MN scored I almost had to call for the paddles (defib).

the Star Tribune's story about the game has a picture of Robbie hitting Johnson and the caption says that Robbie was called for checking from behind on it. I was like what the heck? how do you confuse Kyle and Robbie, there is a little bit of a height difference and weight difference? :silly: I just thought I should mention that since I was on here and I just read it.

What I thought was great was when Johnson milked it and looked up for the call. It was such crap. I definitely think it should have been called, but for a just a shove... I don't know. Watching Johnson after the call pissed me off more than anything. Sooo glad they killed that one off, nothing like a little momentum.

The part that made me mad was Johnson was smirking on the bench after the hit, Johnson totally embelished to draw a penalty.

The gophers are worse than the Robbie Earl led BADgers of last season.

It doesn't matter if he did embelish or not. It was the right call.

And sorry, NO ONE is better at milking a call than Robbie Earl. I was at the Ralph his last year as a Badger and watched him writhe enough to get the trainer to come out. He laid for a while, got up quickly, and skated to the bench looking towards the ref. He didn't miss a shift.

He is the MASTER at diving. After all, he even has scouts and the media convinced that he's very poor on his skates! He might not be the best skater but he was better at it than Bochenski and he didn't fall down every time you exhaled in his general direciton. UW really missed him this year.

STUPID play by radke, no reason for it at all, plain stupid. i saw that coming the minute he entered the camera going at EJ, damn lucky that didnt cost us the game, hell they barley got any shots on it thankfully...

I won't deny that it was a good call and a stupid play. But, yes, it looked like EJ was looking for the call and smirking afterward. Not a hard hit, but very dangerous. I think karmic justice would have prevailed if EJ would have gotten a call for diving to go along with Radke's penalty.

True, but the fact that 5'8" Robbie Bina knocking 6'4 (or is it 6'5) EJ around does have a certain.... amusement factor to it.

BleedGrn- Even so, you hit one of my biggest pet peeves about penalties. Call a diving penalty, call a different penalty, but don't call both. If you are tripped, you fall. No diving involved.

If that would have cost us the game Radke should have walked home. There was no need for that, all he was looking at was the back of EJs jersey. It should have just been 2 mins but you have to show some discipline at that point of the game.

One thing I did notice was how much ice time the top two lines got in the third period. Oshie and Toews and Porter and Duncan were paired on most of the 5 minute PK. The TV timeouts sure did help give the guys some extra time to recover. Also, the loss of Radke did mix things up on the ability to roll four lines. We commented a number of times during the game that Hakstol was gonna go with his studs in the third because it was all on the line and everyone one those guys delivered.

Also, I think the D really stepped it up on Sunday. It was one of the funnest games I have ever seen in person. Great effort by both teams. The whole crowd was just on edge the last 10 minutes of the third and the whole OT. What a great feeling when Porter scored. Who better than the Senior ironman to send the Sioux to St. Louie?

On the game winner, I seem to remember Jones making a good hustle play to keep the puck in the zone. Anybody remember if that was the case or am I remembering it different?

Great weekend of Sioux hockey. Those going to STL will have a blast. Let's bring home number 8. GO SIOUX.

When Radke checked Johnson from behind, I went nuts. I couldn't believe he could be so stupid. It certainly could have cost UND the Frozen Four. I don't care if I ever see Radke on the ice for the Sioux again. How many times has Radke taken stupid penalties at key moments in the game...

If you hit the player in the back INTO the boards, its an automatic 5. The rules are black and white on that one.

It wasn't much of hit, but again, that doesn't matter. The call was correct.

Just watched the video, Jones made the initial pass to Watkins out of our zone. Watkins carried it in the Minnesota's zone, lost it. Porter picked it up and had it poke-checked away. Watkins grabbed the puck and fed it back to Porter, who did the rest.

Agree, it wasn't much of a hit at all. The problem is that Radke got schooled by Johnson on this one. I'm not going to be too harsh on Radke even though he is not the sharpest tool in the box. You need guys like Radke to get some energy going once in while. Not everybody can be a power play specialist. I think you see what happens when that's all you've got ,i.e., gophers.

Johnson has obviously done something similiar to this before based on his reaction. Don't know what Lucia said to him or if someone at the USNDP taught them this but he definitely played it up for the ref. I'm glad he lost as a result.

Nope. The first season the hitting from behind rule went into effect, it was an automatic 5-minute major, but that's no longer the case. The ref has the discretion to call a minor or a major and a game misconduct or a game disqualification. This is what the 2006 NCAA rule book now says:

Is that even POSSIBLE!?!?! Come on now, Earl was THE worst.

I honestly didn't think it should have been a major either, you could tell when EJ turned his head he was looking for a call though. Too me it did not qualify as a checking from behind though, he did not even have his head down hardly.

Come on, Okposo occasionally takes a dive, but how pathetic was Wisconsin? :D

Also, I said it at the time and I still believe, 5 minutes and a DQ was 100% correct, unfortunate for the Kelly Green, but correct. If it was embellished, so what, he still did it.
