Who wins, by how much, and why?

BTW, it seems UND is 6-1 against its most recent IAA opponents. (Granted they were more than 20 years ago. :silly: )

1979 at Montana State, W, 20-16

1979 at Illinois State, W, 20-0

1980 Montana State, W, 14-6

1981 at Nevada, W, 17-11

1982 at Montana State, W, 28-27

1983 Montana State, W, 21-3

1985 at Northern Arizona, L, 0-41

I'm going with a Sioux win, boys work their ass off week in and week out year round. I'm not gonna be that fan that goes against them just because the other team is ranked higher in another division. I've seen upsets before why not this team. Just gotta have that balls to the wall, winner takes all mentality.

GO SIOUX!!!

I say UNI by 19. They have a soft non-conference schedule (including UND) leading up to their big game with Iowa State. My guess is the only game they've been thinking of since May is the Iowa St. game. They'll overlook the Sioux. They are much faster, deeper, and more talented than UND. But I think that UND is one of the most well-coached teams in all of NCAA football. Dale Lennon has been asking for a game like this for the last few years. This is his chance to prove that UND belongs in I-AA.

It seems like every poster this year keeps mentioning our conservative play calling more than in the past. How much influence does Lennon have on Mussman in each series? Or is Mussman just the poorest OC in Sioux history? The UNO game last year still chaps my ass!!!!

If Mussman wasn't running the offense as Lennon wanted it, he wouldn't still have a job at UND. I don't mind UND being conservative and letting the defense be the dominating force, but they do need to open the offense up enough to keep other defenses honest. I would like to see UND take a shot down the field every other series or so, it would certainly help to open up the running game.

I say this is the game we let Mussman put some things "on the game film" to let the rest of the NCC fret about for the rest of the season.

If they work against UNI all the better; if they don't, UND lost to the #3 ranked DI-AA in the country. Seems kind of "no lose" to me.

For the sake of my sanity, let us never mention that game ever again.

I think UNI will prove to be simply too fast. UNI by about 30.

Way too fast, huh. If UND loses a game it is not because another team is "simply too fast." We have played many teams in the past 5 years that people thought had the advantage because of their speed. ie: NDSU (they always had the fastest secondary in the country. :silly: and if I remember right, Lamar Gordon had so much speed that he never scored a touchdown against UND. UNC, and even UNA in 2003 was so fast that they got whooped by UND in the playoffs. Being too fast is not proof positive that UND will lose by 30. I played in the system, I guarantee that the coaching staff and the players are going down to UNI to WIN, not lose by 30 and say that it is a moral victory because the other team was faster and a I-AA team. I for one will not count out UND until the end. Lennon will have the boys ready!! GOOOOOOOOOO

SIOOOOOOOOOOOUXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, but if only a couple players on a team are really fast, so what? But if the WHOLE team is faster than yours, then you are pretty much screwed. Speed=Power, Power=Explosiveness. Explosiveness is a damn good football player. Speed kills, dont forget that

UNI kick returner/receiver Terrell Allen is getting a lot of ink in the Herald, but from what I've been able to gather, while he is a dangerous return man, he's not exactly a polished receiver. That's why he's not at Pitt anymore. He sounds similar to Richard Lewis from NDSU a few years back. And the USC transfer running back is not even a starter, and didn't put up particularly impressive numbers vs. Drake. I have a feeling the speed issue isn't going to be quite as significant as some people believe.

So, what r u saying? UNI is faster at every position compared to UND? I didn't realize UND was playing the frickin Chicago Bears. Speed=Power, Power=Explosiveness......blahblah blah.....what a buch of crap. Where do smarts come into play? "Speed kills, don't forget that" :silly: , I'm sure you probably had that printed on the back of your high school football practice tees. I am pretty sure there are plenty of college and professional athletes that are the best at their positions, but aren't the fastest. U have to be a moron to think that being fast is a justification to being a good football player, or team for that matter. You're an idiot. ???

Speed and Strength = Power, Power does lead to explosiveness, but it doesn't alway translate to the football field. I played football with some very power guys, and some of them showed no sign of it on the football field.

And by the way, make sure to read to article today in the GFH about UND vs. UNI. I guess I am an "idot". Weston would not be NEARLY as good if he didnt have speed. Yes smarts come with it, but you need to athletic ability to back that up. And no, i didnt have that on my high school tshirt. I just have a degree in exercise science. Tell me one awesome football player that doesnt have speed besides a quarterback. You need it to be successfull

Your point is valid if stated a bit on the defensive side.

As for trying to find out who would fit your bill, I can only find it relative to other players. For example, Barry Sanders and Emmitt (Sp?) Smith weren't considered the fastest running backs in the league during their prime, but that's only relative to the league's RBs at the time.

Mike Alstott isn't all that fast. I don't consider Jerome Bettis that fast. I guess they may not apply. It depends upon your definition of "awesome football player."

I see your point. The defensive side a most valued asset. My main argument to previous posters is that on of the main reasons why Division2's usually dont beat division 1-aa is overall depth and team speed. Same goes for 1aa vs 1a schools. When you play an upper division, the commentators constantly are saying how much faster the opposing team is. The game is just played at a faster pace. As in awesome football player, i dont even know why I put that in there, it was unrelated and disregard. But yes, I am using speed as in the general term. As for Barry Sanders, he wasnt the fastest football player in the world, but he definatly had undeniable quickness. Jerome Bettis....he is just huge. Getting that amount of weight that fast is hard to stop. For his size, yes he was fast. But for the most part I am using the word speed in general terms.

Again, you really don't make much sense. You can't say that comparing D2 to I-AA and I-AA to I-A is even close. I mean, c'mon man, your not USC. Lets compare: A top 10 I-A team versus a top 10 I-AA team. This is likely to be a slaughtering, Montana got whooped up on by Iowa last week 41-7. If UNI played a USC or a Texas, easily a 40 point differential. Now lets compare a top 10 D2 versus a top 10 I-AA. This is copied from d2football.com "Bloomsburg and Tarleton State both lost their games last week, but they certainly gained the respect of the college football world. BU led the 8th-ranked team in I-AA, James Madison, 3-0 midway through the fourth quarter before finally succumbing, 14-3. Even more remarkable is that the Huskies nearly pulled off the upset despite all-everything running back Jamar Brittingham being out of the lineup with an injury.

Tarleton State also pushed defending I-AA semifinalist Texas State to the limit, going toe to toe with the Bobcats for four quarters before losing 27-23." ENOUGH SAID!!! I think the gap between D2 and I-AA is minimal, at best, if you ask me. What do you think Flapp?? I mean, Bloomsburg(#11 ranked D2 team) and Tarleton State(NOT EVEN RANKED IN TOP 25 IN D2!!) are usually top 25 D2 teams, but I don't think they have gone further than the 2nd round of the playoffs in recent years. Weird, huh? NDSU(D2 at the time) beat Montana(D-IAA and I believe they were the defending I-AA national champs at the the time) in 2003 and I don't think NDSU even made the D2 playoffs that year!! UND did. I just don't see this huge difference in game speed and so forth that you are talking about. I think that most UND fans would agee that UND will be and could easily be a top 25 D-IAA team. You keep making your comparisons, but really all you are doing is talking out of your a** and have nothing to back it up with. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess we'll see, and dont forget to read to post game analysis

I was not really making a reference to the game, just to your statement. I have not watched either team this year so I can't judge whether of not UNI will be far more explosive on the football field.

I just hope UND has a strong showing and can possible squeek out a win over a team that on paper should whack them.

All kinds of great lineman aren't fast. Speed helps, but it doesn't make you a football player or really even an athlete. Michael Irvin wasn't considered an explosive WR, but he was still a great player. Meshawn Johnson probably runs a 4.6 in the forty but is still a very good NFL WR. Look at all the explosive track athletes that have tried to make it in the NFL only to fail, a few have made rosters and almost none have actually played much. Once again I agree with what you say to a large extent, but there are a lot of exceptions as well.

Really the difference I see between high level D2 teams and D1aa is depth. I think the speed difference is pretty minimal. I think on average the speed difference is evident to some degree, but I think for example Grand Valleys team speed compares very well to the upper level D1aa teams. UND has certainly never been run off the field by GV's team speed.

I think you're pretty much spot on about Allen, although he did have a few nice catches against Drake. Whitney Lewis is more of a power back, and our starter is much faster/quicker than he is.
