ND: Discover the facism

Canadian columnist Keith Gottschalk apparently didn't enjoy his recent trip through North Dakota. He wrote in this column:

Later that day we crossed into North Dakota. Within 20 miles we were welcomed back to the U.S. in a way almost uniquely American. On Interstate 39, we saw a sign that read North Dakota State Police ahead. Then half a mile later the sign read

Leave it to morons like this columnist to interpose rascist allegations again and drag out the same old trite and hackneyed soapbox "talking points" that have caused most people to assign 0 credibility to such types in the past. I thought that a newspaper reporter was to report facts rather than foam at the mouth with personal biases that no one wants to hear about.

Within 20.5 miles of the border ("Within 20 miles .... Then half a mile later ....) he was "outside Grand Forks and the University of North Dakota"?

The math on that isn't working for me. It must be some kind of Canadian conversion from metric thing.:crazy:

North Dakota doesn't have State Police....and if those troops were stopping people for no reason they (and the State) would be sued for civil rights violations.

I guess the way that I look at it is, if you can't respect our country enough to know the laws, stay in Canada. Don't let the USA door hit you on the ass on the way out.

In other news, I'm taking I-57 east tomorrow and then taking the I-84 bypass around Mayville. Then I'm going to take I-39 north to Grand Forks.

Spoken like a jack-booted state trooper.

I-39? Looks like he missed North Dakota by a couple of States. He should be complaining about Wisconsin.

I guess Canadians get confused when they entire the states.

Kyle: How do we get to Ottawa?

Canadian: We're in Canada! There's only one road!

By the way, watch out for Scott, he's a dick!

It is pretty fun how a guy from a country with a pretty socialistic government calls us fascists.

Keep your eyes open wide, you never know where that I-39 will lead you!

Evidently this idiot isn't aware that his country fines people coming into Canada for DWI's they were convicted of in their own country decades ago. In other words, Canada fines those who have not committed a crime in Canada.

Oh yeah, that's right. Don't you only have 5 or so days to leave Canada before they put a warrant out for your arrest?

Does the fact that he has a couple errors in his report (after all he is from another country), take away from his point?

I think the lesson here is to avoid "Interstate 39" if you've got illegal drugs in your car.

No. As far as I can tell, his point is that Canada has bad weather, unreliable electricity and no law enforcement.

Second, we have highway patrol but no state troopers unless he meant county deputies, which are a little different.

Highway Patrolmen are called State Troopers in North Dakota. And yes, you are correct, they have different police powers than Deputies- at least as far as jurisdiction issues. That is why they are not State Police.......as Mr. Smart Canadian referred to them in his nice little factual article.
